Hi, I am considering switching to an e cig but am very new to the entire process. So far I have only tried the Puer brand that my mom had, and a disposable blu e cig. I am looking for one that the battery holds a good charge and I can refill the flavors.

I am thinking of getting the KR808D-1 type of e cig, but I still have a few questions..

1. What exactly do I NEED? Obviously the battery, charger, and cartridges. But, what are the components of a cartridge? Do I just need to buy a few blank cartridges and some flavor stuff, or is there anything else I need (besides accessories)?

2. Can you put a different flavor in a cartridge that has been used with another flavor? Say, if I want to try out a few flavors, will I need to label the cartridges to keep track of which one to refill with what, or is there really any difference if you put a new flavor in an old cartridge?

3. Are there any videos or detailed instructions for how to refill flavors and proper maintenance of the cartridges?

4. Is the thing that heats up the vapor a part of either the battery or cartridge with the KR808D-1 e cigs? Do they wear out? Need replacing?

5. How many refills can you get out of a cartridge?

Thanks in advance! Also, if there is anything else you feel I should know please tell me! Looking forward to your answers!

Welcome to the forum!

1. You need batteries, a battery charger, cartomizers and juice or prefilled cartomizers.

Batteries last approx. 1 hour per 100 mah of continous vaping. Depending on lifestyle, access to a charger, how much you vape will determine how many batteries you need. There are also pcc (personal charge cases) available. Best to have a minimum of 3-4 batteries for a KR808.

2. Cartomizer are disposable. Some are able to wash them out with mixed results. This may be the biggest disadvantage of a KR808. But once you find a juice you like, most people use cartomizers.

3. Most cartomizers can be refilled several times but eventually they clog up and you won't get much flavor, vapor.

You can always try out a pv with prefilled cartomizers and once you decide on juice you like, order blank cartomizers and juice bottles. It's less expensive to do it this way.

I'd recommend manual batteries. Juice that gets into the open end of an automatic battery can short out the battery.

Good luck!

OK, let's see, With almost all of them you will need either an atomizer, which is what heats the juice, and a cartidge, which holds the juice,
or a cartomizer, which is the atty and cartridge in one, the easiest and most popular system (IMO).
You can add juice to either one, in different ways, adding a different juice to one that has or has had juice can give some surprising (sometimes good, sometimes not-so good) results. Most people will drip directly on an atty for testing, and some like to always vape that way, dripping.
There are countless videos on youtube for just about anything you would like to know, and there are threads here that do the same.
I have used the same carto for up to 3 weeks, without cleaning, and some people will clean them and get more. Since I only use attys for testing, not sure what the normal is for them.

Any thing else you would like to know? and of course you will get different opinions and perspectives from others, hope I helped a little :)

edit: oh hey, swedishfish. You did better than I was, I'm still trying to get the bugs out of my teacher's cap :)

I recommend manual batteries - harder to damage or kill with juice leaks, easier to get a good hit. Most here use and recommend manuals.

I use thin clear juices, PG w/ 20% or less VG, plus some Vapor4Life WOW juices and SmokelessImage juices are 80PG/20VG. I can get 7 days use out of each cartomizer if I keep the cartomizer damp so it doesn't get singed.

On a manual KR808d-1 battery, to test new juices use a standard resistance DSE901 atomizer and drip tip (LiteCigUSA.net has both of those). Don't dirty cartos to try new juices.

If you get a kit that should have 2 batteries, charger, maybe 1-5 cartomizers. You need more cartomizers and eliquids. Later I recommend adding a spare manual battery, a spare charger (or 1 spare for home and one for work), a PCC charging case if you want, and the atomizer and drip tip for testing new juices. Plus more juice because new vapers are the ones who run out and the mail runs slow these days.

Thank you all so much for the answers! I think I am starting to understand this all a bit more!

So basically, I keep the battery charged, and keep the cartonizer juiced, then eventually the atomizer which is inside the cartonizer will just wear out or something(?) at which point I just put a new cartonizer with flavor juice in it? Or is that completely wrong?

Dormouse, when you recommended to get the atomizer and drip tip thing as a means to try the flavor, is it to see if I like it so I'm not stuck using an entire cartridge of it if I don't? Also, thank you for the advice about ordering extra so I don't run out!!

Alright, here's my next round of questions lol

1. How much flavor juice is used to fill up a cartridge? I understand it can vary, but on average. Like, how much should I have on hand if I want to buy a month's worth and smoke 10-20 cigarettes a day?

2. Is there anywhere I can buy cartridges or flavor juice retail, not online? Would smoke shops have this sort of stuff?

3. Does the battery ever wear out? How often do you have to replace the battery?

4. The manual batteries means that I have to push a button to use it, right? If that is the case, is it okay to keep the cartridge on it if I carry it around in my purse? I have heard that it's not good to do that with the regular ones.

Thanks again! :)

A cartomizer will degrade - the heating coil gets a baked on coating (just like atomizers) and it will get weaker. And the stuffing can get gunked up but my stuffing doesn't because I don't use juices that drop flavoring sediment int he stuffing. If I have a juice that does, I find another juice. Juices with sediment are usually opaque or cloudy or very dark.

Yes - use the atomizer to try juices in case you don't like the juice. I think about 1 out of ever 15-20 juices I buy is one I would consider vaping enough to put in a cartomizer. You can try to clean and dry cartomizers but they may not come out as good as new.

1. A normal KR808D-01 carto is 1ml. The Bloogplanet and mokelessImage ones are good and I also use Vapor4Life - those are 1ml in size - at the end I will paste how I fill, cleaup, settle.

2. Maybe. VaporSearchUSA.com

3. Yes. Batteries are god for about 150 to 250 recharges if they are sealed manuals, or for autos the same unless you kill them with juice leaks sooner

4. Yes and manuals make it easier to get a great hit. You press in 1-2 seconds before the start of your drag, start dragging, dragging slowly, let up the button just before the end of your drag, then inhale. Most KR8 batteries only allow a 5 second activation then cut off so you may want to only press in 1 second early to leave plenty of time for dragging. The Vapor4Life ones have a custom 10-13 second cutoff.

Purse - depends on your purse. I wear loose jeans and cardigan sweatshirt with pockets and I stick them in those pockets. If the purse isn't jammed full they should be OK. But if you are concerned about it, the SmokelessImage, Bloogplanet and Halocigs G6 manuals have a tiny partially recessed button that would be much harder for anything to accidentally press. They also have bit more charge, rubberized finish, and a more sealed threaded end on the manuals, and have a 5 second cutoff like most KR8 batteries.

----
How I fill Vapor4Life/SI/Bloog KR8 cartos and Boge 510 cartos

With the carto off the battery... Pop out the soft cap with an unbent paperclip in the mouth hole, very careful not to catch stuffing or the wire loop.
Shake and open the eliquid

Fill
Hold a bit of tissue on the threaded end hole, tilt the carto, and add 18 drops per ml of capacity into the stuffing (Boges and most KR8 cartos are about 1ml).
Wait 15 seconds or so then see how many more drops the carto stuffing will soak in easily.

Cleanup
Clean up the threaded end, tilt open end down into tissue, puff into threaded end to clear air channel (Boges and the KR8 cartos I use have a defined center air channel and I want to see light through that) While the carto is still open end down, touch a soft bunch of tissue to the top of the stuffing to get the loose juice - this will help prevent leaks.

Settle (first fill only)
Cap and let it settle - I lay it on different sides for 15-20 minutes to make sure every bit of stuffing gets damp so I won't singe the carto. if you use thicker juice than me (I use 20% Vg or less) then you may need to wait much longer.

While vaping
While vaping, if the vapor gets a bit light or a bit dry or the carto is getting hotter than normal, I take the carto off the battery and add eliquid. Also, I use such light sediment-free juices, I can look at the stuffing and see if it needs juice because the stuffing goes back to near-white.

I often use a plastic or delrin drip tip as a mouthpiece on Boge and KR8 cartos (not to drip into since the juice would head for the central air channel). Easy to pop out to add juice.

Okay, so I just bought from Vapor4Life: 2 manual short batteries (they were on sale), 2 packs of blank cartridges, a 30 ml thing of menthol flavor, and a usb charger (I already have a ton of usb-wall/car adapters). Does this sound good to start? I figure I will eventually get a charging case and try some new flavors, but for now I think the menthol will do. I've never had a menthol I didn't like so (fingers crossed) I shouldn't have an issue with this one.

My goal is to stop smoking regular cigarettes by the New Year. I'm 21 and have only been smoking for 4 or 5 years so it shouldn't be too bad. I know they say you shouldn't use them to help quit, but that's only because the FDA hasn't said it's okay, right? I've never really tried to quit before so I'm not really sure how I should go about it. I'm interested what has worked for others? Going cold turkey and using just the e-cigarettes, or just replacing a few smoke breaks at a time with the e-cigs?

Dormouse, what juices do you use? I am very interested in finding one that will keep the stuffing cleaner. Are the flavors any less tasty? Does it lengthen the life of your cartridge?

Congrats on your order. Which model did you get?
The majority of people here use them to quit and stay off analogs. A lot on the first day, some take longer, and some still do both. No time schedule, no pressure, you can go at your own pace, use analogs when you feel you need to, but the main thing for me is, they worked. Good luck, and I'm sure you'll do great.

Since you want to try other flavors, you might also consider this to go along with the kr808 that you purchased...get a couple 901 atomizers and a drip tip (510/901). 901 atomizers will thread onto your battery. It's a lot easier to test flavors this way. The draw (pulling of air through the atomizer) may/may not be different but it will give you enough to taste your juices without having to fill and possibly ruin a good cartomizer. The drip tip is so that no filler is involved. You just drip your juice straight onto the bridge that's down inside the atomizer. It takes about 6 drops to prime, vape some, add a couple more. When it starts to get dry, it will give off a harsh metal taste which indicates to add some more juice. You don't have to do this but like I said, it makes it easier when testing flavors. If you don't like a flavor, unscrew that atty off the battery and rinse it really well under hot water. Let it dry and use it again.
