Hi all,

A nebwie here just started vaping over 2 months ago. Started out with the good old Ego batteries and a CE4 cleorimiser. That soon changed to the Ego Twist VV with a Kanger Evod. Provided me with much better vapour production and flavour.

Ive just decided to take it up a notch and went ahead and purchased my first MOD/APV. Went with the Smoktech SID as a relatively cheap yet functional MOD that ticked all the boxes for me. However, it was a very difficult decision finding the right battery for the mod. I was overwhelmed with the info on these forums regarding unprotected batteries and the composition, and, to be honest I'm still confused! Lol.

Decided to go for the Panasonic NCR18650PD & CGR18650CH as I understand these to be the best for the strain that can be placed on the battery from a MOD in certain situations and these are the best? Someone may confirm or clarify that for me..... Decided to use the NiteCore i4 V2 charger which is supposed to me good as well. Used the rule of avoiding anything ending with 'fire'.

One area which I hope to get some advice on is the tank/cleormiser/cartomiser. I've decided to use the Kanger Protank 3 as my choice of tank for the SID. However, I don't really have a good understanding of the different juice delivery systems available. There seems to be a whole range of stuff and I'm a little confused. It is my understanding that cartomisers are the best for flavour?

Woooh, I've gone on a bit more than I would have hoped. Most of it is drivel. Lol.

Anyway, hello everyone. I will hopefully learn a lot and pass some of this information on to other newbies and be a contributing member of this great community.

:)

The best is really subjective, some people swear by carto tanks,(cartomizer with holes inside a tank), other say they can taste the material used for the filler. Some like cotton wicks, others like stainless steel mesh or wire. It really gets pretty involved when dealing with other peoples favorites. Here is a blog from Baditude that will hopefully help explain some of the choices out there.

I just got a SiD, too, I'm very pleased with it. You can use just about anything on it - and "best" is subjective, really. Most people say RBA's are best for flavor, but they're a lot more work. In my experience, carto tanks on a mod are a smoother, more flavorful vape than a tank, however - I only use cartos on my SiD and MVP for that reason - my ProTanks work quite well on spinner batteries. My next step is an RBA, though, I'm very curious about them, and...why not? :)

I'd say, get a Smok DCT tank and a couple of cartos, and give them a try, they're not expensive, and easy to use after a short learning curve. Priming them is key, but once they're up and going, they're great. I just swapped one out this morning that went just about three weeks on one flavor (My all-day-gape), and after 10 minutes priming, it's running perfectly right now on the SiD. There's more expensive cartos and tanks, but Smoks are the best beginner tanks - the DCTs are pyrex, and bullet-proof.

Baditude has some great blog posts about cartos:

Hi, good to see you here

all of your equipment decisions are sound and you should have no issues. In regards to cartos having the best flavor just remember that flavor is subjective. I personally do not like cartomizers due to the time consumed filling them and do not think they taste any better or worse than any other eliquid delivery device. Be on the look out for the Kanger Aerotank with Air Flow Control that is going to be released soon for a possible additional tank.

and welcome to the ECF

Thanks for that SirSteve, BillyWJ and Dakota Jim. I know that the best when it comes to carto or tanks is a subjective thing depending on individual tastes and preferences. I think I still haven't found the best system for me personally. I am a former smoker and looking for anything that will keep me off them. Just need some advice and clarification on the different systems available.

Ill definitely check out Baditude's blog. His information on the batteries for my choice of MOD was a godsend (I did not understand much of it! lol).

Cheers.:vapor:

I haven't tried carto tanks yet, but I've got a couple coming my way from IBTanked. I'm hoping I'm one of those who will find better taste in them then with the clearos I have. I don't have time for rebuildables.

As for clearos, I'm loving the iClear b line. Dual coils bottom coils that beat out Evods and the mini Protanks I have in taste an vapor, while being as easy to maintain forbme

    Welcome.

I was in the same boat getting my new SVD and Baditude said I was okay getting the same batteries and charger.

Now for the Protank 3. It's the new bottom feeding dual-coil from Kanger and the verdict is not in.

Kanger has had a successful run on the evod, protanks I & II, but a lot of folks say the 3 was rushed in to compete with the Aspire. Personally, I don't use dual coils because it eats battery life a lot quicker than single coils.

I'm going in on a Kayfun clone, but have been using the evod, Protank II, carto-tanks, vivi novas and the igo-l rebuildable dripping atomizer.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks Tinkiegrrl and smacuser. That is interesting to hear. From what I have read the PT3 is supposed to be a decent tank but I suppose as you said, time will tell. I seem to always gravitate towards bottom coiled tanks because of the success I have had with the Evod and the absolutely shocking experience i had with the CE4's. I shouldn't really tar all them with the same brush.

The only issue i really have is not spending too much as it is really easy to get carried away and buy various different tanks and carto's. Ill have to have a really good read of the info available and see what suits my preference. I think I will always like tanks/cleoromisers as they are easy to use and maintain.

Agreed. We all have our own comfort zone and preferences. Mine right now is carto tanks and ProTank II's, but I'm keeping an open mind about it all, and would like to try all of the devices eventually. The only gear I've tried that i don't care for are iClear 30's, I just don't like them, but others swear by them, and that's cool with me.

Between this forum and reviews on Youtube by GrimmGreen and Pbusardo, you can get a good feel for how it all works, and how good devices are, when making choices. Others are obvious - the MVP being the best example, a solid, excellent piece of gear that I've never seen a bad review of, and owners just love to death.

And, Baditude is the Dude! :)

I agree - Baditude is most definitely the Dude!!

I will most probably try all the different systems available. One of my problems is that I bore very easily, as you can probably see, within 2 months of using Evods with the Ego Twist I am moving to a MOD and different tanks/carto's. I will probably try the Smok DCT and the iClear 30's. I seem to read often that they are good tanks. However, being in the UK means that its much more expensive to maintain this hobby.

I didn't get bored, I just wanted a better vape! Maybe that's what you're doing. I went from a basic E-Go/EVOD setup to a Twist with DCTs within a week, and not a week after that bought my VV/VW (Vamo V3). Within another two weeks I got a Magneto and some RBA's. So maybe you're just in the same situation I was, you haven't found your sweet spot yet. ;)

That is probably the reason why I've decided to go for a MOD. Just don't want to spend too much in search for that perfect vaping experience. But I'm guessing im going to have to get there.

    Hello and welcome to ECF!

    :vapor:

Thanks Amiaji. Great to be here. It's a great forum with a wealth of knowledge. Gonna take me a while to get through it all! Lol. :)
