Just wanted to introduce myself as this is my first post. After 25 years of smoking, I have been analog free for 51 days today! This blog forum site has helped me with ALOT of my questions regarding vaping. I have now ventured into DIY juice. Been having fun but still have questions regarding steeping.

Anyways I wanted to thank you all for all the info I have found here!!:toast:

Thanks for the response and welcoming!! I too still like to buy from my local B&M as they make their own right there in the store!! I figured that by the savings from DIY I could buy MORE MODS!!!! LOL!!! I have heard that placing your fresh juice in a cup of boiling water and let it come to room temperature that it will speed up the process. Is this true? I have tested it and it seemed to make my "first test" after steeping have too much TH. I've tried it with both tobacco and fruit flavored mixes I have made and get the same result. I am mixing at a 30/70 VG/PG base right now and thinking of moving to 40/60 to see if it helps!

I've heard that about the (almost) boiling temp water and sitting the juice (top off) in it...even tried it a few times, but wasn't sure it really did anything useful. I know that high temperatures will break nicotine down, so wondered at the logic behind heating it up like that. But also...I use menthol so it's a different critter than many other types of flavors. It doesn't seem to require as much steeping.

What I do is sit my bottles of prepared juice in a dark place for several days to a week (or more). Periodically I take the lid of the bottles and let them "breathe" for 30 minutes or so then recap. Again: I use menthol, and while this works fine for me, and has for the past year and a half or so, it might not be that good for more complex flavors.

Welcome aboard and congrats! I'm sure all your questions will be answered here!

:D

Hello and welcome Brummm..... Congrats on passing the 50 day mark... next milestone is 2 months. What flavors do you DIY?
Hello Mark! I have been playing with Desert Ship, Maxx tobacco, Strawberry and Watermelon. Just bought some Watkins orange extract but scared to use it! I just started a new thread regarding Watkins orange to see others thoughts. I want to make an orange creme but dunno if it is safe to use.

Had good luck with the Maxx tobacco and watermelon flavors though!!!!

Hello Brummm glad to see another DIY'er. I've never tried boosting the aging process of my juices. I just let them sit and try them from time to time. I should probably be a bit more scientific but I'm not. The only thing I do is save my recipe's and label the bottles. Good luck to you and Happy Vaping!

Thanks Detra! Yes I too have been savingeverything I try into an Excel worksheet!!! Even the BAD ones!!!

Hello and welcome!! Congratulations on quitting!! As far as steeping goes head on over to youtube grab a cup of coffee or your preferred drink of choice, your e-cig and snuggle in. There are a gazillion vaping videos there. My two favorite guys to watch are GrimmGreen and Phil Busardo.

Thanks Sistercreepy!! They are my favorite too!!! But with all the different ways out there in the youtube world, I figured I would ask here and see what i come up with!!!

Yes, if you put them in very warm water for a 'bath' it does help them steep a bit. I have found that leaving the cap off overnight also helps it steep quicker too.
The reason the throat hit is too harsh could definitely be due to the PG/VG levels but I have also noticed that if I over flavor my juice it can also be irritating to my throat. This only happens with some flavors.
The best thing you can do is just make small batches and keep trying until you get what works for you. I like my juice to have a more delicate flavor so I am forced to let my juices steep. (I am also impatient and this drives me crazy!) I have to just make it, label it and try to forget about it for a while.
Also remember to write everything down! Nothing is worse than coming up with something outstanding and then forget exactly how much of each flavor or ingredient you used!!
I am an absolute freak about writing down EVERYTHING that I do. Then I can also go back and make sure I am not making the same mistake twice.
Just keep on trying- you will get the hang of it and be able to make some wonderful custom juices made to your exact liking! Nothing is better than that!!

Good Luck!!

This ^^^^^ !!!! Write everything down! And keep your notes! I use a little notebook...can go back and cross reference and check out past calculations, etc. Date things. Approach it all like a lab experiment. Which, in fact, it is!!
