Hey guys. Meezus here. I'm new to vaping, been trying to quit cigs for the past year. Doing pretty well, though I have messed up a couple times and smoked an analog. I'm new to the forum, though I have been lurking for a little bit. Looking to learn some things and eventually making the move up from eGo's. My current vape setup is attrocious: a Vision II Spinner 1600 mAh clone that I got for $15, with a simple Aspire Evod tank with an Aspire BVC coil head in it. I also recently bought an Innokin Cool Fire I, which I have only been able to use a little bit as I didn't realize you couldn't charge it like you would an eGo, and that you need an actual charging dock, lol. I bought an extension tube for it to allow use with an 18650 battery, a couple Sony VTC3 18650 2100mAh batteries and a Nitecore 2-dock charger. Looking forward to trying it out with a decent setup. My hope is that, if I get a decent setup going, I will be able to go completely without cigarettes.

Anyway, that's just a little about me. Looking forward to growing more knowledgeable and learning lots of things.

I've been vaping for 4 years (after a 50 year 1.5 PAD habit). It is amazing how much better I can smell now. I can smell a tobacco smoker from several yards now and can even tell if someone in the car ahead of me is smoking. All those years I discounted how much I smelled to those around me - who knew?

You've got some good equipment now and when you decide to go to the next level and get a sub-ohm tank (like the atlantis ) you'll be even happier. Make sure you get some more posts up so you can participate more in the forum and do your research. This is an amazingly quickly changing technology.

I used to be a PAD smoker, for about 10 years. It's hard to quit, but I feel like, if I can figure out this vaping thing, I can stay smoke-free for life.

I switched from a pack and a half go vaping pretty seamlessly. I recommend people up their nic if they are still craving cigs, and then slowly come down. I see too many people that are afraid of the higher nics because they all feel like they can start lower. Don't be afraid of nic, it's your friend lol

Yeah, I started out with the 24 mg, since that seemed like the logical choice for a newbie still trying to kick the nic. I'm mostly using 18mg right now, but I also have one bottle of 0 nic, which I actually really like. Just trying to find the balance. I'd really just like to get a good setup going and then go from there. Been eyeballing a couple things, but I don't really know anything, so I have no frame of reference, other than what I see in reviews. And I know I can't really listen to any of those, since I don't know what they're talking about half the time, lol.

It depends on your preferences really.. I've gotten 4 people to switch from cigs to ecigs, and 3 of the 4 are using rebuildables. They were fine using pre-built coils in ego tanks, but then they wanted more air flow, flavor, and vapor so they went to the Nautilus or Atlantis, and the coils are more money.. So it made sense to just switch to a rebuildable. I got one friend pretty much starting off on a kayfun v4 and that's all he knows and he's into coil building now so that's really cool. It'll save him money and give him more options earlier.

I don't think your setup is atrocious at all ! If it delivers the nicotine, then it's a good rig.

A Spinner 1600 will run a lot of clearos and single-coil protanks, and you can vape away while you check out the shiny new box mods at the forum suppliers tab (up there ^). Find a few 20-50w models you like the looks off, spend some time reading about each one by using the search feature here on ECF, compare prices from a few sources and make an educated choice that will work for you. You might decide you like the looks of a tube mod better than a box mod.

P.S. I still sometimes even enjoy the simplicity of a cigalike battery/cartomizer combination. For those trying to stay off cigarettes, it's the nicotine that counts, not how expensive the delivery device is

Thanks for that. I've been looking at a mechanical mod called the Hades Mini from Gearspek, as well as the Aspire CF Sub Ohm battery, the new Aspire ESP, the Eleaf iStick 30W, and the KangerTech Kbox 40W. I'm interested in VV/VW, but I still don't really know what kinds of tanks I would use on those, what's safe, what settings I would use with which tanks. All things I am here to learn about!

So how do you figure out the wattage or voltage you should use for a tank? And how much of a factor does PG/VG ratio of your juices play?

My thing is: I don't feel like my current setup is giving me the vape I want. I feel limited by my unit's cutoff timer, which is not letting me take as big a hit as I feel like I want/need. So I was thinking a mechanical would be good to let me take nice, long, satisfying rips.

Is it length of vape, or density that you're looking for? You probably want something like the istick 50w and a subtank tank, that will give you much more vapor.

With me anyways, I can drop to 11w and take a long slow vape. Or I can go to 15w (on my rebuildable built to 1.5ohm) and take a quick dense vape. The quick dense vape has more vapor and to me is more satisfying. So it really depends on what you're looking for.

I wouldn't go with a mechanical unless you're building your own coils because using pre-built coils will only give you 1 or 2 options in vapor. With a vw device like the istick you can adjust the electric strength and find your preference.

Hi and welcome to ECF Meezus. Lots of very friendly folks around these forums to help in your quest. I have yet to see any flaming for asking stupid questions, so there are no stupid questions

I'm certainly no expert and I'm still learning, but I purchased a Kangertech Subtank Mini and an iStick 50W. I'm loving it so far.
I stocked up on 100 feel of Kanthal wire and a large pack of Japanese organic cotton, and tools. I'm rebuilding on the RBA deck, and I'm also rebuilding the OCC coils (which is saving a lot of money). I've learned how to wrap coils and pretty much get the desired ohm's. There's a good calculator here: Watts - volts - amps - ohms conversion calculator

There's a forum on sub-ohming if you want to go that route and it's worth reading about for safety reasons. Check out Youtube. Tons of good videos, and I especially like RIP Trippers.
