Hey guys, I'm a brand newbie - got my 510 kit in on Saturday and am loving it! I have tried to post 3 times, with no success - maybe just an obscure prob I'm not seeing.

Great info out here, really appreciate finding this forum! My husband did not like his first 4 hrs with the e-cig, but I'm hoping that will change as I continue and he sees that. His issues - have to pull to hard, harsh on the back of his throat, bad hack the next AM. I don't know, I really am liking the whole experience. Any advice you guys have for him, I would love to share - he needs to quit his 2 pk/day deal .... yesterday!

Thanks!

third time is a charm and welcome to ECF. Your husband could be one of the people who have a reaction to PG. Try a VG juice that may help.

+1 and also if the 510 is burning his throat, you might wanna get either a 306 atty and driptip or catridiges or some cartos "cartomizers" or better yet get a 510 to 901 adapter and get some 901 atomizers, my guess he will love those....

The site seemed to be having some server issues earlier, which is probably why you couldn't post.

To address your husband's issues, he should try a couple of things:
  • e-cigs don't vape quite like a cigarette smokes. Rather than short, hard pulls, try a longer, slower inhale into your mouth and then inhale that. It can take a bit of practice to get right. Also, if you're using automatic batteries, try a manual. You'll get a better draw if you control when the atomizer turns on and off rather than using airflow to trigger it. In the meantime, try a "primer puff" -- a short, quick inhale or two, followed by the long, slow inhale. The primer puff gets things going, and then you get to enjoy the vapor from the full draw.
  • Some people are allergic to the PG used in e-juice. Even for those of us who are not, 100% PG juices can still be way too harsh. Try some juices with a PG/VG mix. I like mine at 50/50, but the girlfriend can't take anything that's not 100% VG.
  • Make sure you drink enough water. Both PG and VG are humectants, which means they draw water out of your body. If you vape a lot without drinking water, you're going to get dehydrated which could lead to a scratchy throat, coughing, or worse.

Good luck, and stick with it! He'll come around as he sees how well it works for you.

Hi Aspect---don't take it personally, the forum has gotten too big for it's britches.

Seriously the community has grown and so many logged in it has problems here and there.
The fix is suppose to be coming.

Any way, WELCOME.

That's a good thing, right? We want more people here, learning about vaping and how not to get ripped off in the process.

Of course there's also been a fair amount of spam and trolling recently, making m wonder if 4chan or similar finally found ECF.

Stop using 100% PG juice and also don't use excessive nicotine (like over 24mg). Nicotine is a skin irritant. PG does little to buffer the irritation.

Get some nice 70pg/30vg juice and if that is too harsh try 50/50

Dragging hard should not be necessary or recommended. Is it an auto battery? You could try manual batteries. You drag slower and longer on an ecig.

And you could try cartomizers - try Boge standard resistance soft-cap cartos.

Thanks guys! We got the Riva 510 kits from carolina-vapor, using atomizer right now (although I have some cartomizers and drip tips ordered). Used it with 18mg Tobacco flavor PG based juice. I have some new VG juice ordered from freedomsmoke to see the difference.

Not a problem on the posting, figured something was up & it would clear up. Really appreciate all the responses!

And as for hacking up junk the next morning, it's probably because *healing cilia in his lungs finally allowing crap to come up, and * PG is natures expectorant and aids in getting all that crap to finally come up. He's probably just trying to get the lung cookies out, the more he smokes tobacco cigs the longer that process is going to take.

As you're just starting out, I'd recommend a lot of smaller-sized (5-10ml) "samplers" rather than jumping straight into 30ml or larger bottles. You've got to figure out what you like fist, and there's nothing worse than getting a 30ml or 60ml bottle of something that sounded good on the internet but you can't stand to actually vape.

As far as how much you need, that depends on how much you vape. Most people will go through 1-3ml of liquid a day, so on the high end a 30ml bottle will last you 10 days. Once you find flavors you like, you'll want to get large amounts of them. All of us at one time or another ran into the race of juice vs. USPS -- will our next order arrive before we run out of juice? Do that once and you'll learn to have plenty of juice on hand, "just in case" :)

Thanks so much guys! I have new VG juice in and I think my husband is going to try again thanks to your input. :D

I have to say that I have been using this since last Saturday night and I have yet to even be tempted to get a pack of cigarettes out. Had not even thought about how many days until earlier today when I was sharing info with some friends at work.

Love to vape!

Nicotine is a skin irritant. Even 18mg in 100% PG can be irritating. It would make my tongue and throat sore. It can irritate some people's lungs. PG alone lets through the most TH, the most flavor and the most irritation. VG alone would dull all of those a lot. Most people like PG/VG blends for a nice balance of TH and flavor, without the irritation, and with the more thick vapor from having some VG. Must US juice sellers (not the hardware sellers) offer PG/VG blends. My favorite is 70pg/30vg. You could try that and also try 50/50.

Again, thanks so much to you all.....my husband is vaping tonight thanks to 100% VG, a drip tip to play with, and a renewed will on the deal~! :) I quickly ordered more juice tonight 100% VG for him in tobacco flavors. He tried my combo PG/VG fruit flavored juice and coughed some. I guess when he's allergic, his body means it! Hey, I'm cool with that...he's vaping instead of smoking and I get my own juice!! LOL!

REALLY appreciate you guys input~! He listened to it and was willing to try again. BTW, this makes a week plus for me and I have seriously NOT EVEN THOUGHT about picking up a pack! YES!!!
