Hello, New, and a few questions

Hi Everyone!

Ending my 4th day with my new (and first) Solar Flare 2012 (DSE103).

I REALLY enjoy vaping and I've been down to 4 or 5 analogs a day since I started. And the analogs taste like crap now.

BUT - I'm having a hard time getting a consistent throat/lung hit from my cig. I'll have 1 really good one followed by almost nothing.

For a smoker, this is tough because the cig gets stronger and stronger as you smoke it. This gets weaker and weaker as I vape.

If I put it down for a few minutes, it comes back a bit.

I have to re-drip liquid every few minutes or dip the atomizer to get a few strong consistent hits from the cig.

1. Do I have the wrong device. Should I look for a 5v or something else the produces gobs of vapor?

2. Am I doing something wrong? I have liquid, I fill the cart just to the point it can't absorb any more.

I'd like something where I get more vapor than I can handle for a good 5 - 8 minutes. Getting that empty lung hit makes me want to go smoke a cigarette which I'm trying to avoid.

Any advice on 1 and 2 above?

Thanks so much. I'll be looking around while I wait for answers.

Thanks,

Bob

I'm going to answer this not because I'm highly experienced but because I had the same problem and found my solution. (and because I see no one else has responded yet)

I originally purchased the Smoke Anywhere brand and had precisely the same issue. It was good enough to let me know that vaping had potential but that was about it. The "empty lung hits" however were entirely too frequent and the lack of consistent vapor made it an unrealistic replacement to analogs. My solution after much research was to purchase a Joye 510 and give that a try. 100% difference! Consistent vapor each and every time and after smoking 1 1/2 packs a day for 24 years I can honestly say it completely replaces analogs for me! I'm sure there are many quality PV's available, perhaps even better than the 510, but I doubt you'd be disappointed. And based upon my limited experience it does not sound to me as though you are doing anything wrong.

I don't have any experience with a 103 but I've used both a 901, manual and auto, and a manual 510. I found that the manual batteries give a more consistent vape. Now that my 901 is a manual and I have a great mod for it that I really do like it almost as much as my 510.

Rule of thumb, the more it looks like a cig and the closer to the size of a cig, the worse it is.

I'm new to ecigs, but I'll try to help.

1; Don't inhale as you pull on the cig, inhale into your mouth and then inhale all the vapor at once. Gives you all of the throat hit of the whole pull at one time, also seems to give more of a sensation of lung expansion.

2; Buy a 510. This is my first ecig, and I don't have everything down pat. However I have seen amazingly regular vapor production (In two days I've taken maybe two hits where there wasn't a cloud of vapor that was as thick as cig smoke, and I've been vaping pretty much every waking hour to "break it in." Hehe. Haven't wanted a single cig, but then I've probably been getting about 10x my normal nic intake :p)

3; when all else fails, hit straight from the atomizer. If your bridge protrudes this might not be as safe (tho no worse than "blowing a gun") and you might want to put an empty cart on it. I think it's called "tailpiping." This, on my 510, produces a hit like a cig every time. You can inhale as you draw on the cig (instead of gathering vapor in your mouth) and get a constant throat hit, just like a cig. I think the straw mod might do something similar. I think the problem is basically that not enough air flows through that stuffing material (I'm kinda curious why the carts don't have an air channel/straw built inside them, it seems like an obvious design choice. But then so too does a honeycomb cart that needs no filler, and I haven't seen any of those yet).

Anyway, hope you get your problems resolved.

Ditto My 510 has kept me off smokes for 14 days now but the key is having a really good liquid which is the other half of the battle.Finding 1 you like isn't as easy as it seems because it can get expensive until you find a couple you can really enjoy and then you will see the difference and the savings over analog cigs. Just keep up with it though and you will not be dissapointed. It is fairly easy to quit with these things. I smoked for 27 yrs and quit just like that and I really didn't even plan on quitting that night. I ran out of cigs and said screw it I'll trust in the vape and if it gets too bad I would just buy another pack of smokes and not beat my self up over it. Well I'm still smoke free 14 days and it is awesome

I have several different types of ecigs included a Little Chuck. According to me all ecig perform differently at different times. I haven't found any of them to be constantly consistent. Whether it is the atmozier or the battery losing charge it is an off and on situation. Other people may disagree with me. The 510 is better than a Nipro and a Little Chuck is better than a 510.

If I can remember how to proplerly vape everytime than smoking it like a cigarettes I do get more consistent throat hits. But even after 7 months of vaping I still forget unless I'm thinking about it.It may be because I smoked for 40 years and it takes a while to change a habit like this.

If it's throat hit and taste you're looking for, the Vapor King from Vapor4Life is great for that. It's a 2-piece unit that uses cartomizers, so it's a great one for beginners.

You will find lots of different favorites mentioned by others. I'm still trying to figure out which type to buy for my second e-cig. Vapor is not very important to me; flavor and throat hit are. So far, it seems to me that most people recommend the 510, so I'm researching that now. It may be my next purchase.

As I think about it, I vape on my Vapor King and I love it. It tastes better to me than cigarettes, and I smoked over a pack a day for 37 years.

Good morning bb

I have a similar atty I use for dipping, the Joye 306. What your describing with your 103's performance sounds pretty much like your simply finding out how long it takes for more liquid to actually wick into/onto the coil after a good hit.

You probably will ultimately want to try other models, that's a lot of the fun with vaping. If I'm understanding correctly, you like the 103 when it does hit well? If that's correct then don't give up to soon on the one you've currently got, in time it may well surprise you.

My epiphany was the realization that an e-cig, as they are now, is not going to perfectly imitate a cigarette. Regardless of model, if you try to replicate the analog experience, your probably going to remain frustrated.

The atomizers design is such that there is a space of time required between draws to allow more liquid to move/wick to where it's needed. Hopefully someone with more experience with a 103 will see this and jump in.

Main thing I wanted to throw out to you is most of the atomizers can be made to work well with a bit of time using them. For now, pay attention to what your doing when it hits well and keep doing that!

Luck!

The big thing that made the difference for me was ditching the junk that the manufactures fill the carts with (white stringy poly), and filling with Rite Size U (blue aquarium filter foam).

Tony from Modern Vapor told me about this one. Works great! (If I remember correctly, he got the tip from BlondieLocs...)

lol I have a video on youtube about the blue foam
