Thanks guys, my experience so far with vaping has been of trial and error, i started with disposables from china that i found here for a very cheap price, then i was sold a device called nord 50 w and i started using salts at 40w, i found watermelon with aloe to be soothing for my throat because the other flavours without aloe are harsh for some reason, they make me cough sometimes and taste too strong, and i stopped vaping for the time being because i picked up a flu three weeks ago and hit me hard and ended with a sore throat, so my voice is kinda raspy right now despite 25 days that passed already, i kinda got scared that maybe it was coz of the vaping but since i use hot sauce for my meals, the habanero one and i drink strong coffee often i guess i just harmed the throat a lil bit and is still healing, either way ill take a few days off the vaping to let it heal, i was also reading im doing the salts wrong, im using too much wattage but 40 watts produce nice flavouring, my idea is to move to a stronger flavour i guess free base nic with them strong mod devices but i guess next year

Not terribly fond of salts myself. At best they’re the same. At worst really dangerous. They were a cheapness that was not passed on to the customer. The mainnthing is they’ve got a longer shelf life so they’re cheaper to stock.

The issue I have with “salts” is they only tell you half of the salt. Its “ some salt of nicotine and something else”. The heavy majority of “salts” is either nicotine malitol (was actually tested with nicotine gum) or another one that JUUL liked based on some “testing” consisting of two people in a parking lot and what they liked best. One causes more allergic reactions than the other. There are hundreds of possibles though. A lot of em taste terrible. Some are outright poisonous. I don’t trust it. One of the poisonous ones might become “what’s cheapest” and people are going to have problems. The whole thing is just waaaay too much like milk additives in the 19th century. Google “poison squad” for that one.

I can’t remember what the other one is off hand. A citrate? Nicotine is weakly alkali, so any weak acid and some energy will do it. A salt is an acid and a base. The stronger the acid and the base and the more energy is required to react them and the more stable the compound is. Table salt is NaCl. Sodium and chlorine. Both are very strong. Nicotine is much weaker than chlorine so weak acids like citric acid work well. Every salt is different though, and each has their own properties.

I think the key to success is to start low strength, then gradually increase until you find your optimal strength, this applies to both nic strength but also wattage. Somehow, the most important thing is to find a coil that suits your vape style.

We are all very different, I vape mtl style, the nic strength for me is 6mg freebase, it is considered low, but that is what my lungs like. Others have no problems with 20mg strength freebase.

If you want smooth then salts is the way to go but in lower mg, 18-24 mg is a good starting point. I can't help you with recommendations for pods or starter kits except innokin has great options for new vapers. Solid company that many trust.
Welcome to ecf!
