After the Dead Rabbit 3 rda was my first Hellvape atom, I decided to place my trust back in the brand by requesting the DR 4 rda in the photo free of charge from Sourcemore, who granted my request without receiving money or having a working relationship. Fourth chapter of the Hellvape dripper designed for dual coil use but with accessories, supplied in the package for those who, like me, prefer single coil vaping.
Box quicker to open compared to all the others I've tried, at the cost of a bit of sturdiness. Rich content with the Dead Rabbit 4 RDA, double drip tip and 510 adapter, plate/deck reducer for single use. Accessories for unscrewing the screws and spare parts, double strip of cotton, BF pin and tool for cutting the legs to the same length.
Dead Rabbit 4 RDA made entirely of steel with two different types of finishes and, excluding the drip tip and pin, it is 22.5 mm high: much lower than its predecessor, and those who, like me, do not like having the coil a few mm from the mouth must equip themselves with taller drip tips. The width, on the other hand, is a standard 24 mm, weight 43 grams.
The two standard 810 drips vary exclusively in material and not in size: one entirely in steel with the end part in resin, the other has the end part in steel and the part to be inserted into the cap in black plastic. 810 connection with an O-ring inside the top cap, also customizable with a 510 adapter included in the package, unfortunately made of quite thin frosted plastic material but it is also possible to install steel aftermarket ones without problems.
The air ring finish recalls the same sandblasted finish used for the Anniversary Edition of the Dead Rabbit 3 RDA which I own and which was released in 2024. After a year, the one on the 3 remains intact without surface scratches, as can happen on some steel atomizers, and has not blackened; I hope this will be the same case with this one. Ring composed in one body and can be extracted from the chamber by simply pulling upwards after removing the drip tip. Airflow system consisting of 10 holes per side (20 total) which can be partially closed by the aforementioned ring equipped with a stopper.
First overview of the deck solely to make it clear that the chamber's air holes must be aligned with the airflow system on the deck itself to allow the chamber itself to lock (which does not rotate) but which allows the air ring to rotate and partially close the holes. A bit complicated to "unplug" if the RDA 4 is not screwed onto a mod or tab.
The deck, compared to the 3, has its own true wells instead of being totally open. Air that arrives exclusively from the sides and to the sides of the coil (hence side airflow). 4 "postless" posts, another slight difference compared to the 3 with tightening screws on the sides and freedom to use whether building in single or dual coil, using the reducer or not. In the center there are also the squonk holes from which the liquid comes out when using BF mode with the appropriate perforated pin. The capacity of the deck itself, given by the cotton wells, is obviously greater in single, varying between 1.5 to almost 2 ml of reserve liquid without problems of leakage from the air holes. A small digression on the single coil adapter in steel, equipped with a small tooth in the lower part which must be tightened in the post as if it were a real coil. Once installed, two opposing posts remain open, making it mandatory to create the coil with the legs in that manner and not parallel.
It is possible to use it in both dripper and BF modes since the liquid holes remain uncovered. I obviously advise against using it on unprotected mechanical mods with the single coil plate for safety reasons. The biggest benefit of using the single coil adapter is a slightly more restricted draw. Coil height as always, Hellvape suggests cutting the legs to 5 mm, which especially in dual coil are unnecessarily long for me when using a 3 mm diameter coil. To let the air hit the coil there are no problems given the two rows of airflow, it should be noted that since there are 5, to hit the coil centrally, at least 3 need to be open, given that the third is exactly in the center of the posts on the deck.
A solid pin for dripping is present in the package and the possibility of mounting a second one with a hole for bottom feeder vaping. Replacement is simple as you just unscrew to extract it, with a little care it can also be replaced with the coils installed. To extract the gold-plated "turret", the grub screws must first be unscrewed and extracted in addition to the pin, after which it comes off easily.
Dead Rabbit 4 RDA, some extra aesthetic attention and finally single coil customization compared to the 3, with the latter perhaps to be better developed in the future by removing the superfluous items in the package, from the second drip tip to the coils and creating a single accessory, which, however, works well. Tolerances and O-ring sizes are spot on, workmanship in line with the cost. Like all Hellvape products, for an RDL it is more than fine. For now, it is the most flavorful Hellvape I have tried.
Hellvape Dead Rabbit 4 RDA is available in various colors on Sourcemore Hellvape Dead Rabbit 4 RDA Atomizer 24mm at the price of $22.59 using the code HDR4 during checkout.
I would like to thank (and wish happy anniversary again) to the staff and community of the e-cigarette forum for the space, and Sourcemore for providing me with the Dead Rabbit 4 RDA free of charge.
