I'm getting so frustrated. I have read posts, watched Mistress Nomads videos til' I'm crosseyed! I'm using the Electron 510. The new version of the Joye510. I have tried: 24 mg 50/50, 18 mg 80/20, 18 mg 70/30 juices. Tried holding in my mouth then inhaling, tried long drags, tried short drags....ARRRRGG! And I still cough if I inhale. Any suggestions? Is there a combination of juice that would be good and not make me cough. Thought about trying 14 or 16 mg with 50/50 combo. Thought I would post first before spending the money. Any suggestions would sure be appreciated.

When I first got my e-cig it seemed a bit harsh to me as I tried using it to ween myself off analogs.
After a day of not smoking analogs, I can take huge e-puffs with no problem. If I smoke 5 analogs one morning then go to the e-cig, it's harsh to my lungs again.
This may or may not have anything to do with your situation, but thought i'd put it out there...

Try a higher VG ratio. I experimented with a lot of nic levels & PG/VG mixes at first because I couldn't even take a tiny (less than 1 second) hit without coughing & hacking too. I went from 18-24 mg mostly PG mixes (way too harsh) all the way down to 6mg 100% VG liquids (almost too smooth), then slowly went back up in both nic & PG levels from there until I found what worked (12mg with at least 60% VG). During this process, I learned that for me anyway, the amount of PG in the mix made FAR more difference than the nicotine level. Yes, higher nicotine was harsher but only by a little bit whereas the PG/VG ratio made a huge difference.

not to nay say anyone, but I have a strong reaction to high pg products. When I went to the all vg (remember now flavorings have pg in them, you just can't totally get away from it. ) I had less difficulty. Also I have better luck with the pain in the .... ceramic cartos than I do with cartridges and the cartos with fluff in them. Every vaper is different. Every vaper's lungs recover at a different rate. Your lungs could be trying to get rid of the damage years of smoking has done to you too. You may also have a cold.

I'm not saying any of these things are true specifically to you, but these are things you might consider, maybe vg irritates you, maybe pg does, maybe it's the cartridges/cartos you are using, I doubt it's the level of nicotine that is causing the cough (from my experience it seems too high nicotine tends to make you nauseous rather than have coughing issues.)maye your lungs are refreshing themselves , maybe you just have a cold. What I'm saying here is, don't give up. Consider all the things people have mentioned here , and one by one, rule each thing out till you find out what it is that is making you cough. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

Just a thought - did you get the primer out of your atty? I imagine you did by now if you tried all of those juices....

Try 18mg with more VG? FreedomSmokeUSA's normal size juices ($4 and up) all either come in 50/50 or selectable PG/VG

Try a cartomizer - get some Boge soft-cap 510 cartos (not the LR low resistance ones - the standard ones)
FIVE (5) Joye 510 compatible e-Cigarette blank cartomizers (Manufactured by Boge)

You can also try a standard (not LR) Joye 306 atty and 306 carts which I think has a nice vapory but softer hit
I got mine at LiteCigUSA.net

Thanks all for the posts! I'm thinking I will order some more juice with less PG and more VG. I think the PG is more the problem, as PG has a greater "throat" hit. I know for sure I don't have a cold, more likely my lungs are really shot as I have smoked for 43 years! Will try some of your suggestions, I really want to get this "vape" thing going, number one as I said my lungs are in bad shape, they have found a couple of nodules on them and two, analogs are getting WAY too expensive! It's much cheaper to vape

No need to worry about nay saying. I'm also sensitive to high percentages of PG, so I can only vape a max of 60% in my juices. I'm not allergic to it. It just makes me sneeze and cough. DIY is interesting because I have to test new recipes with VG, otherwise I'll start sneezing. I also keep a bottle of water or KoolAid next to me so I can stay hydrated.

A high nic level and a high PG level can make for one hell of a strong throat hit and that can make you cough.

Deb if you've smoked for 43 years you're gonna hall of a time when your lungs actually start expelling the junk that the analogs have deposited in there. Yeah your lungs are in bad shape but they will get better. I only smoked for 9 years. I'm 2 weeks into vaping, and my lungs have just begun to start rejecting the tar that's in there. VG will help but the real solution is probably patience. Your lungs will kick your .... for a little while and in a month or so you'll be able to take deep breaths that include some of the stronger flavors and liquids. Give it time, try a VG liquid, also try taking deep breaths of regular air before you vape. Good luck! Patience!

Welcome to vaping Deb! I've been vaping for about 1 month and I, like some of the others, still have troubele in the mornings. I've found that I definitely need something to drink in the mornings and that a high PG ratio also makes me cough and sneeze. Another thing that I have noticed is that specialty flavors (including more than one flavor) tend to be easier on my throat than single flavors. One other interesting bit - before I started vaping, I noticed that several people in the forum had experienced problems specifically with cherry liquid irritating their throats. I find that this goes for me as well. Hope we've all been of help! I haven't picked up an analog since I started vaping and I feel SOOOO much better, I hope you will have a good experience as well!
