I am not getting much satisfaction out of my new Riva and I don't know why.

I started vaping with, and am still using a SmokeTip (Kr8-type) which is a carto that I filled with 18 Mg 70/30 Menthol Ultra from FSUSA, i have it on the p/t and it's actually fantastic. Plumes of vapor/taste/th.

My ST is actually a backup for my Leo (waiting on replacement atty's) The Leo is also fantastic when working.

So i thought that I would pick up another backup, since the batteries on the ST are so small that they are useless on a day out. I chose a Riva 750 because I had heard so many great things about them.

But it's my first eGo style pv so I have nothing to compare it to. The battery life is about 4-6 hours which is what I was expecting, but everything else...

Although the Leo was my first 3-piece unit, it's BIG! Big cart, big atty = easy to fill and forget. The Riva atty and cart are T I N Y. So I found myself first taking off the cone and keeping it off because I was screwing it on and off all the time to fill the tiny cart. Then i found myself adjusting the polyfill and topping it off all the time and too often experienced a burned taste (new to me) so I started dripping (also new to me - no drip tip, just the cart mouthpiece and I drop 3 drops directly on the atty).

I imagined that the dripping would produce a better vape (from what I've been reading) but even with the dripping, there is hardly any vapor and no throat hit, the taste is fine.

i am wondering if the Riva is working properly and i just don't enjoy it, or it's not working as it should.

I had a learning curve with the Leo so I know there are little things that you have to do with 3-piece pv's and make adjustments and tweak things, but with the Riva I'm constantly adjusting and topping off and it still doesn't produce any th and just minimal vapor. Highly unsatisfying. I find myself vaping WAY more often because it's not 'scratching that itch'. When I get home I use the ST almost exclusively.

I've tried up to 24 mg nic and varying ratio's of pg/vg and it seems to make little difference in the quality of my Riva vaping experience. I'm using BWB 70/30 & FSUSA (variety of flavors and mg's) so the juice isn't an issue.

I would really like to know if i am doing something wrong, or if this is how eGo's perform in general?

If so, I know someone who would love this kind of soft and tasty vape, but it's not for me.

I've discovered that an analog-like TH and decent vapor is important to me, vital, in fact.

So is it the Riva ( which I tried with multiple batteries/ multiple atomizers/ multiple flavors/ multiple mg levels) malfunctioning or is this a personal preference thing?

I really wish I could help you with your problem, but I don't know what to say except I have been using the Riva for quite some time now, and it has become my absolute favorite PV. Wonderful clouds of vapor, great flavor, long lasting battery (and now they have come out with an 1100mAH for even longer life), and perfect size for me. I do use it with an LR 501 atty pretty much exclusively. The Low Resistance atty seems to make all the difference in the world, so maybe that is what you should try, if you haven't.

On that note, I have noticed a real lack of consistency in atty performance and lifespan. Some last for weeks, others last for a couple days. Some are bitter and harsh, others are smooth and flavorful. All with the same type of atty. But I have now narrowed my atty's down to 2 manufacturers, EM LR510 and the Joye LR510, both ordered from Liberty Flights, which have great selection and prices (just my opinion, I am not trying to plug them). I will do a comparison, and be happy to post the results at a later date...

So my only suggestion would be to give the LR510 atomizer a try with the Riva.

Best of luck to you,
Kona

Did you just buy 1 riva battery and 510 atty? Or did you buy the whole kit? If you have 2 batteries and 2 atties, and try them both and had the same performance then I don't think they are faulty. If you only had 1 each. Maybe something is not working properly? I once rec'd a brand new Riva battery that was producing very little vapor. I knew something was wrong w/ it because I had one to compare with.

Thanks all for your input.

Kona; I know, right? Everyone loves their Riva's! I'd be interested in hearing what you discover in your research on 510 atty's.

Tybin, that's what i was afraid of. I don't want to have to go to that much trouble, especially when there is no guarantee that I would be any more satisfied than I am now. Maybe i would think differently if I weren't so frustrated at the moment.

Pandatera, 4 atty's 2 batteries. Is it possible to get a bad kit? One of the atty's doesn't perform as well as two others, but the two that are performing still don't give me any satisfaction - IF they are performing.

I wish I knew for certain if it's performing as it should. I have a chance to swap out a Leo for a Riva1100 kit and love the idea of the battery life, but it's not worth it if I can't get any satisfaction from it.

I continue to play with it and have been able to get a bit better flavor and vapor, still no TH and the vapor is equivalent to my KR8. I really don't want to have to purchase additional eGo Items in order to enjoy it, by enjoy it I mean that I don't want to have to vape all day at higher nic mg's and purchase additional items and fudge with the pv all day.

Except for the one atty, everything seems to be working as it should - i'm guessing here because it's my first eGo-type - everything seems fine except for my satisfaction. I'm thinking it's a personal preference thing, just wish i knew for sure.

Thank you all for responding.

Nataalie,
Thank you so much! i think you just solved the mystery and made my choices so much easier.
You've helped so much!

Best wishes to you too.

I love my Riva/eGo types too, but my SmokeTip beats them for both vapor and TH. I think it's because the SmokeTip is a actual 3.7v vs the Riva which is comes off the charger higher, but begins dropping steadily down to 3.2V. See this thread: LINK

The one exception, and there be others, is the Liberty Flights SE Riva: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/joye-510/65055-battery-voltages-surprise-13.html#post2685344

I'm not sure this helps, but I wish you the best :)

Hi Natalia, I did see that, thanks. They also added a travel charger for the smaller batteries. I like this company, they don't have a ton of stuff but what they have is great and I love how they stand behind everything nobody beats their lifetime warranty on the batteries.

Learning that i prefer a higher voltage is a good thing to learn and maybe as time goes by, I will learn to use a variety of pv's for different moods and circumstances.

Thanks again, you've been extremely helpful.
