I really need help guys. I just recently started vaping so im a newb, bare with me please. So after my first clearomizer went .... with dry hits i got a new ce5 clearomizer and i started getting dry hits after a day of using it!
I filled the tank till half way through. I must be doing something wrong....it only lasted me a day. ....
Could this be being caused by overusing it? (Like vaping alot and giving it no break). Or vaping when there is little liquid in the tank?
I'm using ann ego battery and used both ce4 and ce5 clearomizers. The ce4 lasted like 4 days of vaping and the ce5 lasted just a day.
Now i can't vape and have to order some from ebay and wait about a week to ship :(

I need to know what i'm doing wrong.
Appreciate any tips/help!

I personally had many issues with clearos when I used them, since then I've purchased a few Ibtanks and I love them.

I gave away my cep/ce5 when I got them because I used my friends and they were horrible from my experience with dry hits and not wicking properly and even getting burnt tastes since it was a top coil. ( which is not replaceable such as the coils from other tanks like Kanger Protanks)

When I used Clearos I had myself a Protank 2 and a Mini pro tank 2 which I loved both of them, plus they are pyrex so you do not have to worry about the juices that are used in them and the maintenance on them is just replacing the coils when they go bad or for swapping flavors.

I would suggest picking up one of those two, I would say the Mini because it seemed to be less fidgety compared to the bigger brother (imo).

As for the dry hits, that could be because you are running the clearo on low liquid and it's not wicking properly or maybe when your filling it your not letting it sit for a bit to wick the liquid up? I personally always tried to keep my tank about 1/2 to 1/3 full so I wouldn't have to deal with that.

I hope some of that helps, my best advice honestly would be to upgrade a little bit to a Kanger protank 2/3 and/or Mini Protank 2/3, because then you would just have to replace the coils in them instead of buying a new tank when your having issues.

I hope I helped some but I more or less just rambled, I'm sure others will chime in as well but that's just my :2c:. As you will find out there is a lot of trial and error in vaping just don't get discouraged and keep it up! Remember through all the pains and fits of figuring things out your actually choosing a better alternative!

Yes.
The liquid has to rise upward on the wick to get to the heating coil

Give it a twirl to wet the wick

As of matter of fact i just ordered the pro mini tank 2 days ago :)
The thing is that i switch alot of flavors, so i use up all the liquid in the tank (so i dont waste any) and switch to another one.

So how am i to switch flavors and not vape with low liquid in the tank?

Thanks.

Oh i didn't know that. Do you think that is why it's permanently damanged now?

That is a definate yes... When the e-juice gets low, it has a long way to wick up to the top, and many times, it can't wick fast enough. When it gets about halfway, you might have to tip the cartomizer/battery up so the coils reach the top. If you think it's starting to get dry, wait a minute before your next vape while you tip it.. give the wicks time to re-fill with e-juice.

Now, if you have a CE5, it's not permanently damaged. You can buy replaceable coils for CE5's. You might want to check the place you bought your CE5's and see if they sell replacement coil heads. The mini protank 2 partially solved that problem by putting the coils and wicks on the bottom of the tank. However, they have their problems too. I still think a mini protank is a recommended upgrade though, mine has produced much more flavor than my CE5s ever have.

Thanks but i have a problem. I like to change flavours so if i have to keep a filled tank, how am i going to switch flavours?

Welcome to clearomizers...*sigh* even at the best times they are unreliable. So far the most reliable ones I have tried are the Aspire BDC and Nautilus... even then there is no guarantee. They position the coil at the bottom of the tank, so usually if they started wicking they will continue to do so - even if they end up flooding, crudding up and burning juice, or just start tasting awful. The tiny nature of all clearomizers means that coils can be uneven, touching filler material, wick may or may not contact filler, and they are susceptible to a vaccum building up and flooding the 'chamber'. Best tips, IMO: Let it sit for a LONG TIME after filling on a new clearo, and take lots of unpowered 'primer puffs' (covering the airholes to increase suction and draw liquid into the coils). Then, to avoid the 'new kanthal' taste (probably machine oil), burn it without sucking a few good times. Still, dont be surprised to get some nasty hits the first few times. All clearos do eventually fail and start tasting awful after a while (several days to a couple weeks, usually). It is possible that you just had a bad one that failed quickly.

If you want a big tank, I would suggest investing in the Aspire Nautilus, with the highest resistance available (I have found that the lower ohm heads give barely any flavor, for me at least.) If you want small tanks, the Aspire BDC system is (relatively) cheap. Again, choose higher resistance, (More coil surface = more flavor) Run both of these between 7 and 9 watts depending on juice. (The power level does change the flavor of the juice with these).

The convenience of clearos is great, but the unexpected failures and subsequent cleaning, inspection, head change, refilling cycle got to me so bad that Im transitioning to RDAing. Plus the cost of heads gets HUGE when you get a few failures in a row.

Well that depends on what you have.....Do you have small clean glass or plastic bottles with replaceable caps you can use? If not, and you don't or can't invest in more tanks right now, I say pick up a few and transfer any unused liquid into a clean empty bottle if you want to switch. However you're still going to need to clean out your clearo WELL if you REALLY want to get the best flavor out of whatever new juice you're filling it up with and this tends to shorten their lifespan IMHO.

The bottom line is if you want to switch flavors a lot, I recommend getting dedicated tanks as I have, or bottom coil tanks w/replaceable coils as has already been mentioned, and yes, Kanger makes the best IMHO! The Aerotank is great, looks nice and you can pick them up cheap on Ebay for around $18. Or you can get the Kanger Protanks, Mini-Protanks 1,2 and 3, the Evods (MT3's), the NEW Evod Glass tanks with replaceable drip tips, and of course their are knock offs of varying degrees of all of those. Those all range from around $6 to $20, and up though, depending upon where you go. I wouldn't pay more then $20 WITH shipping though, and that's for the Kanger Aerotank. I can't say about the Unitank, as I haven't tried it, but from my recollection they don't seem to get as high of marks or praises.

If you are on a tight budget and dont' mind waiting and or want to try those styles out for cheap, I recommend Fasttech. I finally just got the rest of my orders in from them and EVERYTHING was top notch. I ordered an automatic ego style 650 kit, for around $16 I think and the only thing wrong with it was it was missing the plastic needle tip refill bottle which was supposed to come with. So I was a bit disappointed in that but EVERYTHING else looks, feels and works great with it! I got it for my Moms because it has pretty light up diamond gems on the bottom, and it's automatic. Even the case was nice and the whole kit came with a USB charger/wall adapter plug, and instruction. The 18650 batts I got from their work and look good as well. It even got here before Mom's day, yay! That was my test order, and while it took about a month an a half for everything to come in, the batts took the longest due to their nature, I would definetly order from them again with the prices I paid! As a matter of fact I did, as I ordered some recommended RBA stuff, and a mech mod to check the quality out on those, mess around with and practice on. If I screw up on a $30 device I'm not going to be that upset verses screwing up on a $100 device!

If you do have a little bit of money now though, I recommend you check out Ebay, or shop around for vaping supply sales and pick up a few different kinds of Kanger tanks. Check out Vaping Cheap Deals. I NEVER have dry hits, leaks or ANY trouble with my aerotanks or Evods! I buy them by the 5 packs, and extra coils. Another thing you could do is invest in a 510 debridged atty from Alt Smoke. I ordered two for $6.95 and they should be here in a few days. I have a Smoktech dripper, that works pretty good, but I need to rebuild the coil in it and change the wick out and haven't had time. The one's at Alt Smoke don't have a wick, as you drip directly onto the atomizer. When it's time to change flavors you just blow out the flavor and start over....simple stuff. You WILL need a drip tip though if you don't have one, and they have a wide variety of tips at different prices ranges there as well. I can update you when I get mine as to how they work. Hope that's helped some!

As long at the coils/filler is wet there should be no difference between 100% and 5% full. (Though low levels can cause flooding, paradoxically, in some models.) That doesnt mean it wont fail anyway. :( The wick (the part inside the metal coil) can gunk up and lose its absorbency, lose contact with the filler material etc. all on its own - leading to dry hits and burning wick/filler. (I know silica doesn't really burn but it can get so charred that its the same effect.) The quality from head to head in the same system can be vastly different. Some last for weeks, others for hours, others are DOA.

dark or thick liquids can cause issues with bottom coils (dark leaves residues on the coil, thick may block liquid flow to the coil from the tiny holes).

if you use a bottom coil you dont have to wait when you replace your liquid because its soaked up with the previous juice anyway, just puff few times to vape the previous flavor away.

and about keeping it full, it's not necessary just make sure you dont vape it under the coil's head level.

I honestly love my CE5 tanks, the main reason I switched to RBA is because I enjoy rebuilding.

About cleaning the tank, I personally just use warm water and dry it with a vaper towel (seriously bounty became one of my main products since I switched to ecigs).

And ALCOHOL for me too! I'm surprised I'm not DRUNK or messed up from 91% and higher alcohol strengths I've absorbed through my skin or inhaled the fumes of lol! I found some pointed tip quip tips in the beauty aisle at Walmart, that work EXCELLENT! I also use dental brushes to get in around threads, center posts, just about any tight space along with a bottle and cup brush set I already had thanks to my kids, lol!

If there isn't a thread already we could start a post about things people use a lot with the cleaning/maintenance of their gear, esp. stuff that's marketed and sold for other things lol! :)

I have found with the CE4-whatever number there is a white rubber cap that lies on top of the wicks. I pluck that out with tweezer and remove about 1/16" of it and replace it. Sometimes it pinches the wick and causes the "dry hits" because the fluid cannot properly absorb. Once you clip that amount off it allows the juice to absorb properly and no more dry hits. It's worked like a charm for me every time.
