Hello everyone  This is my first post after looking around here for a couple of days. My head is spinning with all the choices but I finally decided on the Joye 510-T. I have selected the starter kit, a 5 pack of refillable cartridges, an ez fill adapter (?), some juice and vapor boost. Not sure if I need or will want the vapor boost? The juice I selected is a custom blend 60/40 and I admit I'm not even sure what that means exactly, lol.

The juice is a 30 ml bottle. Any ideas what that is equal to in # of cigarettes? Maybe I want to order more than one bottle or another flavor? I've smoked menthol cigs for over 30 years so I thought I would start off with a menthol flavor. I've read what you all say about the traditional flavors and how after a bit they taste disgusting but something about smoking a mango flavor or kahlua flavor cigarette doesn't sit right with me just yet, haha!

Do I want to buy additional cartridges or atomizers? I read about cleaning the atomizers but I'm not clear on what is involved in doing that or how often it would need to be done.

I'm hoping to get a good start on this with my first order. I am shopping on (thevaporpro.com) Joye 510 | Joye 510-T | Electronic Cigarettes | Joye eGo-T | Smoke Juice | Joye eGo Any complaints about them? Their prices seem fantastic.

Thank you for any help and guidance you can offer. Everyone seems very nice here and its gr82cu2 (great to see you too) :p

Welcome gr82cu2!

First, the easy part, when you start out, try lots of little 5/10 ml sample bottles of juices instead of one big bottle. Have you tasted the 30 ml flavor before? If you don't like it, it's a lot to be stuck with. Check the Forum Suppliers page, lots of choices. Taste is personal, so I'm afraid there are no short cuts than trying some yourself. Folks will give you suggestions of their favorites, try them and see.

On the hardware side, the 510-T is a "tank" model that has its custom atomizer and cartridge. Again, since you're just starting out, try it first and see if it works for you before buying more parts that only work with that model. If you don't like the way it works, you can save the money to buy a different kit or go another direction. Here's something useful on atty cleaning http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/general-e-smoking-discussion/97014-facts-about-cleaning-atomizers.html

Try to keep things simple (or your head will continue to spin) and good luck! :)

edit: when you say "selected", have you bought it? I read as you did.

edit2: if you have not bought yet, see fish's post #6 below for hardware suggestions...unless you really want a skinny e-cig.

I was just like you- menthol smoker & smoked about the same amount of time-

I started with a Joye ego that I got from Liberty Flights. I also bought 2 boxes of boge 2.0 cartomizers, and two drip tips.

You can get the Riva (same as a Joye but different brands) carto bundle or lite bundle

Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510

$29.99 for the lite bundle, $34.99 for the carto bundle. Hit the 20% off on the top left

Get two boxes of Cartomizers (boge 2.0) from Good Prophets. $5.99 per box

Boge 510 Cartomizers for 510 or eGo

Drip tips- makes it easier to fill your cartomizers
Drip Tips Clear Colored

Now on to juice- What brand cigs did you smoke?

Looks like a decent start, you'll probably want a longer lasting battery than a regular 510,ego's and rivas last way longer than a 510 cig. size battery.Ego's and riva's are fatter than a 510(think sharpy size) but only a little longer. The average is ~3mls a day of liquid, some use more, some less.I suggest getting some cartomisers to try too.

I'd skip the vapor boost. Their description says it is just VG and you can get VG for a lot less than $5.49 an ounce. In fact the same vendor sells VG for $4.69 an oz. I got a 6 oz bottle, USP grade, for less than $4 a few months ago at Walmart. I'd hold off on buying any VG until you actually need some, particularly since you're planning on a 60/40 blend.

Yeah their prices don't seem that great in my opinion. Especially when you can get a Riva kit from Liberty-flights for $30 and the batteries will last a you a lot longer before recharge. 6-8 hours or more compared to a couple hours for a mega 510 battery. Two Riva batteries will get you through a single day of heavy vaping. Believe me you will vape more than you smoke, but that's ok since vapor is absorbed less than smoke is, so it takes more to give you the same fulfillment.

But I agree with the others who say to try more flavors in smaller bottles first. It will take you a little time before you find your perfect vape. Even then you'll probably mix it up from time to time. I used to smoke one brand day in and day out, but as a vaper, I rotate flavors depending on how I feel. Typically switching off between two different flavors each day. Some people have their all-day-vape and then interject that with a desert vape after meals or at certain times. That's part of the beauty of vaping, there is a lot of choice which can at first be confusing, but after a while it's pleasure to have so much variety.

Welcome to the forum Janet! What are your smoking habits like? How much and how often do you smoke. How long?

Not trying to be nosey, just trying to help figure out a good pv for you. Have you ever tried vaping?

Edit: Sorry, I missed it- 30 year menthol smoker.

Hi Swedishfish and thank you for helping. You are all so kind. To be honest, my smoking habits are bad, bad, bad. Until recently I smoked 2 full packs a day, sometimes more. I have been on Chantix for 3 months and have cut back to around a pack a day but I just can't seem to quit. I've decided I just like to smoke, I guess. I will check out the links you gave me, thank you. I think the reason I'm attracted to the Joye 510-T is because it is most sized and shaped like a real cigarette. I don't want to feel (or look) like I'm sucking on a flashlight, lol.

No, I have not bought anything yet pending the wisdom of you all. I had merely placed the items in my shopping cart before I got confused again, ha!

For 10 or more years I have smoked Tourney's which are only available at Speedway Gas stations. Name brand taste with generic pricing ;) I smoke the menthol lights.

Or Lord, please don't tell me I will vape more than I smoke :(

Btw, 60/40 blend just means 60% PG, 40% VG. If you haven't read about these juice bases yet, see this http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/177551-pg-vg-peg.html

Don't mean to spin you further, but there is a learning curve...be patient. :)

I have a lot more homework to do, I can see that and I thank you all for helping me. Another question if I may...... I was watching a youtube video review of the Joye 510-t and the reviewer said a filled tank would last about 60 puffs (4 cigarettes worth roughly by my estimation). Does that sound right? I'm not sure I want to mess with changing or filling the tank that often. Arghhhhhh!!!!!!

Janet, first, the laws of electronics says small batt = more recharging, big batt = less recharging. I'm not sure about the 510-T, but the most you will get is 2 hours of vaping with a mini cig, which is fine as long as you know going in. I use a Riva at home, like a medium sized cigar, not any longer than the 510-T. I started with a 510, got tired of charging batts.

Good you checked before buying.

You may vape more than you smoke, but it's ok coz you can lower the nic in the juice. And once you get in a routine, it'll still cost less than smoking.

I get 40 puffs on a tiny cartridge half the size of the "T" and it takes me 5 minutes to refill a bunch each day. It depends on your smoking/vaping style and the juice. Unfortunately, vaping is NOT smoking, there's more work and you will have to refill juice. There are bigger juice containers, but again, the size of the entire device will go up.

Give and take...and guess what? There is no "right" answer for everyone. :)

...yes that is about right...with the 510/510t you will be constantly changing batts as well...there is a convenience curve to vaping that cannot be gotten around...many here start with a 510 or other cig sized units and quickly tire of having to constantly change out batts and start looking for something else...you could/should look, at a minimum, an eGo/Riva 510 sized unit(about Sharpie sized) you will get 5+ times the batt life...cartos start around 1ml(about same as the tank you are looking at) and need to be topped off before you use 'em up(at 50-75%level)...there are many cartos which approach 2ml and some go upto 4+ml...there are fancier carto tanks which can hold up to 8+ml...FYI, most folks vape in the 3-5ml range...keep on reading and learning and asking questions............

I would agree with most everything said here - Specifically - you will probably be happier with a larger battery EGO, Riva etc.
2.0 cartomizers would probably be easier and more economical to start with - Just don't vape them too dry before refilling again,(a common mistake)
If you are smoking that many per day, of most milds or full flavors - you will probably want to start with a 24mg strength liquid (you didn't mention what strength the 30ml bottle was) - You will probably not be too concerned with the menthol very quickly, most of us started smoking menthols just to TRY to get some flavor back into the experience - most tobacco flavored liquids have PLENTY of flavor - and you probably won't miss the menthol at all.

Another VERY good tip that most people suggested - try a 1/2 dozen flavors in smaller bottle - it may take a while to find a flavor that REALLY satisfies - might as well start searching immediately.

I thought about the flashlight thing when I started and bought a 510 kit. Here I am a year later sucking on a flashlight. Do yourself a favor and just get an ego kit. If you need a cig shape then start with a disposable. If you get a 510 disposable with the charger it will all be interchangeable. Use both and by the time your disposable won't charge you will hopefully be comfortable with your ego and in the end you won't need a new kit.

Liberty flights riva kit is the cheapest.

Volcanoecigs has their pre filled cartridges on clearance and that provides a hassle free start before you move to filling your own if that bothers you.

I clean my atty every 2 weeks. And replace every 2-3 months.

A big issue I had with the normal 510 battery is the strength, throat hit, and vapor production would take a hit around half way throughout the battery life. It made the experience inconsistent.

Good luck

Ok, I'm looking at the Riva and now that I see I can get one in white I'm more swayed, lol. Question........does this have a button you have to push to turn it on and do you have to hold that button down while taking a drag? Once again, I'm confused how that works :) Thanks for being patient and thanks for the website with the 20% discount!!!

Yes, Riva is "manual" and you can get used to it. The vaping on a manual battery is more precise and controlled, with the added benefit that juice won't get into the batt and destroy it.

As ironslave said, there are auto/no button eGos (510 type), IGos (808 type, another thread series) and similar bigger batt models, but you'll have to search for them. Most "xGo" bigger batt types are manual battery.

It looks more like a sharpie than a flashlight.

Make sure you order some juice from a regular juice vendor. I start at 18-24 mg. You can always decrease it but not as easy to increase.

Make sure to order cartomizers (boge 2.0) with the Riva. Either at Liberty Flight or at the site I gave you the link for.

Sorry, I'm back :) Life got in the way there for a couple days, lol.

Alrighty, here is what I've got in my cart from Liberty Flight. I'm wanting to get this first order at least, as complete as possible so I don't have to keep going back for more and paying those darn shipping charges, ha!

From: Liberty Flights
Riva 510 Lite Bundle
2 - 5 packs of Boge Cartomizers
1 clear drip tip

From: Kalamazoo Vapor Shop
A Sampler Pack tobacco 5 - 7.5 ml bottles
KVS menthol tobacco 30 ml bottle
WTF Menthol tobacco 30 ml bottle

Now, another couple questions have come to me. If I use these cartomizers, 1) is there any need to worry about purchasing extra atomizers as Liberty Flights recommends? and 2) When using the cartomizers can you change flavors within a cartomizer or would that be funky tasting?

Thanks again y'all!! :vapor:
