I've been vaping for a little over a year now and i've only used mechs with rba's for the past few months and so I have no idea what to buy for a new vaper. I'm pretty sure i would have a hard time selling my dad the idea of a fiddly rba on an unregulated device or even a clearo on a huge mod like the SVD or Vamo. I think the largest he would go for is an Ego type device with a matching clearo.

Any advice on what to get?

If it were me I would get something like this: http://www.myvaporstore.com/Vision_Spinner_Joye_Ego_C_Twist_Combo_p/vvs-c.htm

Two variable voltage batteries, two clearomizers, a charger and an A/C adapter all in one package. Pick up some spare replaceable coil heads and some juice and he'll be good to go.

That's probably not the best vendor for you but I'm sure there are several European vendors who sell similar kits.

I would go with the iTaste V3. Its smaller than the ego's but is variable watt which is closer to "set & forget". It is also a pass-through so he would be able to vape and charge it at the same time if necessary:

Innokin iTaste VV ( V3.0) Variable Voltage and Variable Wattage Express Kit

That's a good suggestion as well (I have one and use it daily when out and about), but you would definitely want to get two of them if having to vape while plugged in will deter him from using it. It's only an 800mAh battery so keep that in mind.

Another vote for the Innokin iTaste VV 3.0. It has VW so your dad can adjust the warmth of his vape with a pushbutton and not have to worry about doing any oHms math. It comes with iClear 16s, a twin top coil clearo. The iTaste VV 3.0 also has passthrough capability so your dad can charge the battery while he vapes.

You might want to aadd a mini Pro Tank for him to use with juices that crack plastic tanks. It is a bottom coil which will allow your dad to decide whether he prefers a warm top coil or a cooler bottom coil.

Fast Tech has the iTaste VV 3.0 kits for about half of retail and they also have a mini Pro Tank.
iTaste VW V3.0 7-in-1 Variable Voltage Rechargeable 800mAh Electronic Cigarettes Set - black
iTaste VW V3.0 7-in-1 Variable Voltage Rechargeable 800mAh Electronic Cigarettes Set - white
Kanger Mini Protank Clearomizer with Pyrex Glass Tank (1.5mL)

Todd gave the iTaste VV 3.0 a good review.
