Help me select my RBTA clone...

Ok so I am going back and forth. I have read most of the discussions on each style and the more I read the more I keep going back and forth. So it is time to ask for help from people who have owned them. Right now I am using Protank 2 and the iClear30. I hate the iClear because of the draw. It is like sucking a golf ball through a straw. I have had no problems with the Protanks but have heard that a kayfun is SO much better. The kayfun will be going on my iTaste MVP 2. I usually vape Good Life Vapor juice like Deadly Sin on a 2.0 ohm coil at 8 watts.

So here is what I am looking at as my important criteria:
I like an airy draw
I like full flavor
I do not want to have to mod it, so working out of the box is a HUGE point
Overall size is not too much of a concern
I kind of like the idea of the reservoir on the 3.1. I have heard stories of leaking with all clones.
Ease of filling is kind of important. I do not want to HAVE TO use a special bottle to fill it.

So the contenders for ordering:
From Fasttech (although I am worried about ordering from them):
The original lite in matte finish
The 3.1 Gift Set
The lite plus V2

From 101Vape:
Lite + clone by EHpro

Concerns of each option:
I really like the matte look of the lite BUT I worry about a tight draw. I have heard great things from people who own an authentic lite plus but wonder how the clones perform and have heard that if you want a airy draw you need to remove the air control screw all together. Last seems like most discussions on the 3.1 is they need to be modded. I guess the Russian 91% is an option but I do not know much about it.

I am also not sure if a RBA is a MUST. Maybe I could just start by rebuilding the coils on my ProTank2.

SO.. As a community, tell me which one I need to order! :) Thanks in advance for your help

Hello,

Welcome to ECF!
I have no idea how to tell you what you should buy :)

What I did, was start by rebuilding my PTs - It made a HUGE difference.
Then I bought a FastTech clone to make sure I could build it....didn't want to waste money on something I couldn't use.
Then I bought the original lite+ v2
(size mattered to me, wanted smaller)

My FT clone has a large gash on the deck, and the first fill it leaked quite a bit, but hasn't since then. (the leaking may have been user error)
The threads, finish, taste, overall feel of the actual kayfun just can't even be compared to the FT clone.
Worth 8 times the price? to me - yes.

If you haven't built any coils yet, I guess my only reccomendation would be to start with the protanks, to get a feel for it, and using the right amount of wicking. Then you'll be good to go when you decide which RBA you really want.

Either way, good luck and enjoy!

In general the draw on kayfun lite style is tighter than the 3.1. But it is a subjective preference so I cant say what may or may not be acceptable to you.
Also, IMO the wider range of airflow control is the only advantage of the 3.1 over a lite.

Also check out eciggity.com. They have a Kayfun lite by EhPro which has enlarged airflow inlets.

I have a Russian 91 SKU 1612101 from fasttech that I am pretty happy with. It comes pre-coiled, but the silica wick is stuck in the coil so you can't rewick. I moved to my own coil plus cotton and it just keeps on truckin. The wonderful advantage of these is a quick dry burn and slide a lil cotton in and you're fresh and flavorful.

It is a tad leaky, but I haven't mastered the top fill yet, which is apparently rather key. Because the build quality on mine is fine as far as I can tell (good threads, good orings, very airtight), I have to guess that the leakiness is just a feature of the things and operator error.

It has an airflow control screw and seems to be pretty airy when wide open or removed. YMMV.

Back to your point of "work out of the box." I should think if you have no interest in building your own coils and wicks that you should be considering something else other than the Kayfun family entirely. Even if you buy a bunch of coiled silica wicks somewhere, the most fiddly aspect of replacing them is bending the wire around the tiny screws and tightening them up. The only reason I bought the Russian was to experiment and not have to replace the coil every couple of days. There are "package coil" tanks that are just as good.

My experience with the Aspire BDC is that it gives as good a vape as the Russian in most aspects and isn't fiddly at all.

Thanks for the input so far. I might just start by rebuilding and experimenting with different coils for the ProTank II.

I did not say that I did not want to rebuild something. I fully expect to have to rebuild a REBUILDABLE atomizer. "Working out of the box" is important because many clones need some sort of modification. either the wells are not right or the air vents are too narrow. I do not want to have to break out a drill and/or a dremel to make it work correctly. But at any rate, thanks for your input on the 91. How long did it take for you to get your order from Fasttech?

She I was looking for my first RBA; I started reusing my kanger coils thinking tat would be good practice. It turned out to be a good waste of time. I almost decided against getting an RBA; because, the kanger a were sucks pain. The truth is if you can rebuild one of those you could rebuild anything ... Lol
As for the actual RBAs- you've narrowed it down to a kfl- probably the best one out there to learn on. And for flavor.
I have an authentic kfl+, an Artemis black edition and an ehproV2. The v2 is my favorite by far; the draw is looser than the others, the finish is nicer than the others and the fill hole is easier to deal with than the others. The 32.00 price tag on eGay makes it much more attractive also.

Ahhh gotcha. Sorry, misread you. The Russian 91 SKU I mentioned above has been just absolutely fine for me in that regard. The only thing I would consider "modding" on the one I have is that the screw heads are apparently smaller than average. I believe that is common to all of the clones. Apparently the replacement screws have larger heads.
