hey guys, im here to try and find out whats going on with me. I have been vaping on and off now for about a mouth. The first mod i bought was the silver bullet with some high caliber e liquid. When i got it i loved it i kicked smoking cigs and couldnt get enough of vaping. I noticed that i was getting hives on my arms and chest so i stopped vaping and gave everything to my dad(which he loves and quit smoking cigs after 30 years) hes been going with no problem so far. So i went back to smoking cigs for about to 2 weeks and just decided to give it another go with vaping. This time i got a 100% VG juice(so they say on the website) i thought it was the pg that was giving me hives so ive read from other peoples allergies. after 3 days of vaping i got these weird little rashes on my chest and stomach so i gave all my stuff to my dad again haha but then after a couple of hours the rashes went away. Now im confused i dont know if im allergic to VG or PG. If anyone one can give me some tips and certain juices i would really appreciate it

Was the e-liquid thick or was it between the pg and vg thickness? Vg is a fairly thick liquid in which sometimes needs to be diluted with distilled water or pg, only two I know. If so it must of been a mixture of both pg and vg. So far I haven't heard of anyone being allergic to vg. Could it be the e-liquid you are using? Try a different brand of e-liquid and see if that's the problem.

New attys come with a primer liquid in them. I don't know what's in it, and I don't think anyone else here really knows for sure, just that it's nasty to smoke. Could be that it might very well have some PG in it, though. If you didn't the second time, and are going to try a third time, I'd clean the attys out very thoroughly before trying again with straight VG juices.

I wouldn't have guessed that the primer would be an issue for three days, but it's not hard to believe it might be, either.

If you tried 100% VG did you consider the flavoring of the juice you are using, you may not be allergic to what the flavor is called but you may be allergic to an artificial flavor of it.

Also it may not be vaping related at all, you could be having a reaction to not having one of the chemicals in cigarettes.

Do you get the rash when you are in the vapor when your father is using his PV?
Was this rash itchy or painful?
Has the rash ever occurred from eating anything?
Most of the chemicals in e-juice are relatively no reactive but it is possible that you may be exposed to something that they may react with.
It is also possible that the rash may be coincidental to your vaping, keep an eye on it and see if it happens again when you are not vaping or near it.

hey cbb thanks for reply. i hope it is a reaction from not having a cigarette and that it just goes away. when my dad vapes i dont have any allergic reaction what so ever i actually like smelling it and not have a problem being around it. the hives and rashes were not painful but itched just a little bit not enough to drive me crazy. i have never had hives in my life intil i started vaping. i will keep an eye out for it and keep you guys updated thanks.

You may need to try organic. Cloudsofvapor.com carries all VG with organic flavoring. Bruce is highly allergic to anything with PG. Vaperite also carries organic and it's excellent. Since you already have equipment, just try some juice and snag a unit back from your Dad.

ok ill give it a try. thanks =)

Are there any foods or sweeteners you are allergic to? Some e-liquids have natural flavorings. Some have artificial flavoring. Some have sucralose (liquid Splenda) or ethyl maltol (cotton candy flavor) sweetener. Occasionally someone is allergic to PG and less frequently VG.

One other possibility - it could be an odd reaction to cutting out the 4000 chemical in cigarettes? But then I would not expect it to go away quickly like it did with the VG

And BTW - a few juice companies add weird things to their liquids like throat hit additives or herbal things. Where did you get the juices?

im not allergic to anything that im aware of. the first e liquid i got was from altsmoke.com it was high caliber 50/50 watermelon and ice menthol. thats what i got the most hives with. the second was from kalamazoovapeshop.com i got a 100%vg pina colada 18mg. Didnt really give me hives but one day after i was working out i took off my shirt and there was little rashes on my stomach but they were gone after a couple of hours.

Wow that is so weird. How long did you vape the first one before you got hives?

And BTW - when it's an hour since your 5th post, you could also ask in the Health section of ECF

Health, Safety and E-Smoking

And here is a thread there about Hives
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/health-safety-e-smoking/13148-hives.html

i know very weird haha. i think i was vaping the first juice for about 2 weeks i think. then i noticed the hives. ok ill check out the health forum. thanks a ton =)
