Hey ECF, got my first hybrid in the mail, wrapped up some SS mesh and a 28g coil, filled her up, and BURN BURN BURN taste. 3/4 wrap and i get rid of the hot spots, and take a puff and it just tastes like metal. I oxodized the wick real well and when i burn the coils with juice in the tank it keeps catching fire after the coils are heated up. I dont know if this is normal, but i cant seem what else i can do. Is my mesh wrapped too loose? Its a real airy draw as well. I am out of mesh, i have two pieces, one that is in the mod and one that i took out.

Pics below. Please help me :( IMG_1541.jpgIMG_1542.jpgIMG_1543.jpg

It might not be oxidized enough. Try the pulse method, where you pulse it over and over again then adjusting the coil with something with a point. If the coil glows evenly then should be good. Make sure to prime the mesh with a few drops of juice. When you're taking a vape make sure to tilt the mod up at times to make sure it's wicking properly.

Okay, so the first wrap i did i didnt oxodize, wrapped the coil up 2/3, oxodized it by pulsing, and i couldnt get rid of the hot spots after the juice was in (i got the coils even first then added juice) then i gave up, pulled the wick and coil out, then did the traditional method, same result, burnt metal taste. Now, i pulled it out again, oxodized the wick again, put wick back in, still burnt. what now?

I'm prety sure you are getting shorts. This is for the AGA-T, but most of it should be valid for yours too.

With no juice in the tank, when you pulse the switch the coils must all glow with the exception that the bottom coil is hard to get as bright as the rest. Do not continue until this is accomplished. I don't oxidize my SS wick, just pulse gently until the whole coil glows. Before that happens the whole RBA will get too hot, so I dip it in cold water and dry it off with a towel. If you let the AGA-T get too hot you can damage the plastic grommet that isolates the positive, center pin. Or you could just wait til it cools down, but I don't have the patience for that. If you get a stubborn short, it can help to move the coil there a bit with a small screwdriver.

Once this is done you can fill with juice and vape. Mine usually shorts once or twice more in the first day. I syringe out the juice and pulse again until it's gone.

I also wrap the coil around a drill bit that just goes into the hole. I drilled the hole to 1/8", or 3 mm. I use 27 gauge wire which is about the same as your 28. I then roll the wick such that it slides easily into the coil. The nice thing about this build is that I can gently take the wick out, unroll it a bit, wash it off and put it back. After the coil end gets messed up, I put it in upside down and have fresh wick in the coil.

I always tilt when I vape.

HTH.

ETA: You must not make the coil too tight on the wick. As I said, my wick slides in easily.

Its a short as all ready said try pulsing. When genys first started getting around my first one was G tank US it was a very tough atty to master for a first timer.

I thought for sure everyone was in a conspiracy because they did not want to admit they wasted their money. I kept at it took a good week or two of messing with it getting frustrated with it putting it away then trying again.

Just keep at it youll get it patience and persistence will whip most anything.

i had the same experience, the only thing that worked for me well was when i learned to do a micro coil with 28g kanthal... wound coil on a drill bit- squeezed gently with tweezers under blue flame on stove top till it glow took it off the fire then did it 3 times= result was a nice micro coil all stuck together with no gaps... no hotspots-glows from middle going out...no shorts on the oxidized mesh wick... btw i had put silica inside the mesh... my 2 cents

zhentipede, thank you! I actually have added a noble 1 hybrid to the collection, but was still having wicking issues. I would get the coil nice and even with out juice, then fill it up and vape it for 4 or 5 draws and it would taste burnt. I would take the cap off and fire it and the coils would light unevenly again. SO id tap it around again till theyd be even and it would work again for a few draws until it happened again. SO i gave up and wrapped a micro coil sort of. its a 6/7 wrap and is glowing pretty even but still happening is it will hit fine for 10 min then burn. SO ill tap the coils a bit till theyre even again and presto. It will hit nice. WHat might be causing this to happen? The wick is prety tight between the coils so i dont see how it could be moving around and causing hot spots. Im also being very careful to not bump the coil when i put the cap back on. ANy ideas?!

try the coils a bit loose.. might b too tight? recently i had moved to rda's and have not looked back..... i am saving up for a kayfun lite i heard so many great thongs... oh in the genesis style i had less problems when i used silica as wick on the agat+ in a horeshou set up two silica ends inside the tank in seperate holes...

Youtube is your friend. Rip-tripper (Brent) is a great place to start, very informative. I use cotton, so I wrap the coil around a spindle, install it in the atty, pulse it to make sure there aren't hot spots and when I am happy with it, push a small amount of cotton through it to plug the wick hole only enough for it not to leak (about 1/2 inch in the tank of my RSST). Less cotton is more. Prime the cotton with juice, tilt when drawing and voila, vapes like a dream. I shoot for 1.7 ohm coils and run at 8 watts. Total time, about 5 minutes with practice and I am by far no expert. Good luck and have fun!

Finally got it wicking like a dream! Opened up the wicks hollow center a bit and made the wick only go down half as far as pre previous one was. Only downside is i have to tilt it at almost a 120 degree angle, but im getting used to it.

Good to know. I am going to experiment with stainless cable with mesh wrapped around the top and then after that give cotton a go. Never had luck with silica. Always burns up too quick for my liking and the flavor is never "there".
