So, I'm sitting here building my first wick and coil and for some reason I can not get anything higher than 0.8ohms. I'm using a Vamo V3 and everything I've tried does absolutely nothing to help. I see most people are around 2 ohms and I'm not sure why mine is staying between 0.6-0.8.

I'm using 30g Kanthal and 450 SS Mesh.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Sounds like you have shorts. Have you tried slacks or jeans? :p

Seriously though it sounds like your wire is shorting out on your SS mesh wick. That or you're using way too low gauge wire for the a regulated mod.

What gauge wire are you using? How many times are you wrapping it around the wick? Are you oxidizing the wick before wetting it with juice?

I'm using 30g kanthal and have it wrapped 4 times. I've replaced both the coil and wick and its still doing the same thing.

I setup my aga t2 with 30ga wire on my vamo v3 using 6 wraps. Gets about 1.6 ohm.
Try a couple more wraps.

Try this:

Make your coil on a drill bit or anything round that fits into the mesh hole, 6 wraps should hopefully put you at 1.2 ohm, which is the limit for the Vamo.

Put said round thing with coil attached into the mesh hole and secure the coil to the atty.
Pulse your mod 4-5 time so the coil is glowing red.

Take a piece of 40x20mm mesh, quickly go over it with a ligther.
Roll it in your fingers into a tube that fits in the wick hole.
Put the wick into the already installed coil, make sure the wick and coil touches all over. If needed cut the wick to correct length.
Pulse your Vamo repeadetly until all coils are glowing evenly.
Fill with juice. Never do anything of the above with juice already in the tank.

The pulse to even glow might be difficult on a Vamo, mech mods are best for this. If it doesn't work, you may need to oxidize your wick before you install it.

I'll add one thing.
I like to switch to voltage mode for pulsing the coil.
I start at 3.2v and work my way up to about 3.8 or so as I work out any hot spots after the wick is installed.
The above pic was taken after I was fooling with the wick position and the coils needed some tweaking after the photo was taken.
Normally I have the wick about even with the positive post.
I can vape that coil up to around 11w for a great vape.

So I tried using a drill bit and was reading 1.6 ohms. Fired it up at 3.2V and 6W. It heated up for a quick second and went right back down to 0.8 ohms. I'm definitely becoming frustrated...

It's so much easier to set up a genesis if you have a mechanical mod without protection that kicks in before you have the oxidation under the coil going.

So now you have used the drill-bit method you should be able to pull out the wick, over to Plan B.

Soak the wick in juice and set fire to it, and repeat this 4-5 times. Put the wick back in and try again.

Like Blix mentioned....try soaking and burning the wick a few times.
All of the problems I first encountered setting mine up were due to shorts on the wick.
Also make sure you wires are clamped in good.
Loose connections can cause the ohm to float around.
Also make sure the wick is not touching the bottom of the tank.
Also make sure the seam of the wick is not touching the top coil.
I fold the last 1/16" of my wick in and then roll it so there are no frays causing a short.
I like to line up the seam of the wick to about 11 oclock relative to the positive post.

Okay so I'm moving in the right direction...

It pulses fine without the wick in. All coils glow evenly and everything.

As soon as the wick goes in it pulses for a couple times then shorts out again.

This describes a short almost perfectly. Its like your a short describer by trade. lol. Oxidize your mesh!
I think your 1st problem was u didnt have enough wraps to ohm out above the vamo's cut-off.
Then you already know your next problem was that your wick wasn't burned thoroughly enough,
so you didnt get a chance to see the glowing red frays when you were oxidizing the mesh.
Be careful with this! U always wanna get those frays out, and oxidize the mesh quickly, because a short can short out your battery!
