Need some help here with carts. I recently bought an EGO and a 901. They both have the same exact problem. I fill the carts ½ to ¾ and then add the filler back, then top off. I then vape just fine for 2-3 puffs, but after that I get the burnt azz atomizer taste! YUK!! To fix the issue I drip 1-2 drops on the atomizer and once again top the cart off. Then 2-3 good puffs and bam!! Nasty azz taste again. I used cartomizers before this so I am a bit new to atomizers. When I check the cart fillings they are soaked in the back but dry near the atomizer end. They don’t seem to be draining right, and they are brand new.
What am I doing wrong??
Thanks in advance!

Excerpt from the post linked in my signature below...

Dry atomizers, flooded atomizers, and wicking
Basically, you want to keep your atomizer happy with plenty of juice, but not too much as to flood it.

A good sign that it's flooded is that it gets a little harder to draw on and you get little or no vapor.
Flooding it, however, won't hurt it at all, and you can just blow out the extra juice.

Letting it get too dry, on the other hand, is not good for the atomizer supposedly.
But regardless of whether it is bad for the atomizer or not, you still don't want to do it.

You can tell it is too dry when it starts to taste like crap.
A nasty sort of burnt plastic type of taste.

One reason it might get too dry is if you burn through the juice faster than it can wick up more.
That is why people experiment with different kinds of filler materials to use in their cartridges.

If you take only a drag or two every now and then, you should be fine.
But if you use these like a cigarette, the wicking process will have trouble keeping up.
There are ways to deal with this, and people have different methods that work better for them.

And of course, when the cartridge is running low on juice, it needs topping off for this reason.

The point being, it sounds like you're hitting these hard and heavy.
Treating them like a cigarette.

The wicking action will not keep up.

In fact, I think you might burn cartomizer filler at that pace as well.
But I can't say that for certain.

If you MUST hit it that often, and that hard, then there are some choices...
1) Use a different filler material: Cartridge Mods - E-Cigarette Forum
2) Or use no filler material at all: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/cartridge-mods/53487-zfm-zero-filler-mod.html
3) Use the thermometer method: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tips-tricks/27169-packing-e-cig-i-swear-works.html
4) Try dripping instead, a few drops for each "cigarette" will do the trick

I think the biggest problem is your not using a Cartomizer. ;)

Thanks for the info guys! I did try the cut the poly in half which helped a bit.
I am currently experimenting with cutting the fill down by about ¼ and using a light short spring in the very end of the cart by the mouth piece. Nice thing about this is it still allows the cart to fill with liquid behind the filler and it gives resistance so the filler doesn’t get shoved up and stays pressed against the metal bridge / wick. So far it seems a bit better.
Is it just me or does the whole cart thing just seem nowhere near ideal??
The reason I got into this is I wanted to try the LR atomizers for better vapor and less time with the button pressed down. I think having to draw for 6-8 seconds to get a good hit is just lame…
