A few skills will almost always come in handy
-soldering (YT has that covered)
-3d modeling (if you want to print or order a print from one of the 3d printing companies, if you don't print it'll still come in handy to have an exact 3d design so you know where you're going)
-basic handcrafting skills (measuring, sanding, polishing, filing, drilling etc)

You can work on those while figuring out what exactly you want to do. There's sites that sell ready made electronics (and things like 510 connectors) for vaping (eg modmaker or stealthvape) like dna boards or PWM boards etc.

How much does it cost to have a mod printed by one of these companies??z
I was going to make my own Palm BF (by Box Mod Mafia), er Palm BF Mini? I forget its official name.

It depends very much on your design and the material you choose. Most companies have a minimum fee per part (like $5-$7) so the more parts you have the more expensive it gets. There's some ways around that by connecting loose parts with little struts and make them one part, that means you'll have a little more work cleaning that up later (eg connect a battery door to the main body with 4-6 2mmØ struts).
With the cheapest material and thin walls you can probably get away between $20-$30. With better materials (eg alumide) and thicker walls more like $35+ and upwards.

That's the prices for laser sintering, I don't know about extruding because I don't like the resulting surface and so didn't inquire. It may be cheaper (but it's also harder to do the strut thing I talked about earlier so all in all maybe not cheaper in the end).

The number of rounded edges isn't of any importance. You'll find you can print just about any design with SLS.

There's a few constraints but they're more related to wall thickness, tolerances and minimum gap, not rounded edges.

Thanks! I got the mod wrong!

Box Mod Mafia: TiNY v2.5 (25mm RDA Shelf)

This is the one I was thinking of if that helps your estimate [:

I really want one, and too make me own would be ideal!

Would you think its possible for under 100$? I would use the plastic-esque material like Rebel or Boxer is made of. Is that g10? Pardon me if I got the name wrong!

It certainly would. The hard part is the CAD work though, if you're just starting out prepare for a steep learning experience.
Also, you shouldn't assume that if that is the first design you do that it will 100% be perfect, to do a design and have it come out just as you thought takes experience. It's best if you know somebody with an extrude-based 3d printer (those homegamer devices) that would be willing to do some test prints for you.

Just from an image it's impossible to tell what material exactly was used.
Costs a bit more to do right.
You mainly pay for the space on the printing surface and the volume of material used (as in volume of hard walls, not powder). The shape doesn't have any impact on the price. At least at the 3 places I've inquired that's the case. So printing a solid brick with sharp edges is much more expensive than a same size hollow box mod with rounded edges and a William Morris flower relief.

Thanks!

I did take a class on CAD in high school but that was over a decade ago. I do believe I saw a site where you can dend thrm pictures and they would print it for you, but I also figure Id have to pay for them doing the CAD work. Its also very unlikely snything Id do eould come out flawless. zhmm, maybe this is just a dream and I should look for s used model. If I could make it I eould leave out the bottom feed aspdct and make it a 3 battery mod instead of squonk. Oh, one can dream I supposee.. ]: maybe if I got one I could modify it.. Oh cruel fate!

Some of the custom print vape box makers are so expensive you could buy your own printer for less.

Hi, I want to learn how to make mods but I don't know where to begin. I don't have a background in circuit wiring if that's what you call it and I have tried looking on Youtube but nothing is really detailed. If someone can give me some info on how to begin I would appreciate it.
Welcome and glad you joined.
