Help with reading battery voltage using multimeter

I was measuring the voltage of my ego/riva type batts and my 4 AAA puck. All were fully charged and the readings seem high to me. Riva/Egos are around 4.5 to 4.2 and the 4 AAA puck using rechargeble NimH comes out at 5.7. Which 1 volt higher than I thought I would be getting. With all tests, is was pressing the button as if vaping, if that matters.

Am I doing something wrong?

Math. 4 AAA batteries connected in series mean add the voltages of each battery together to get the volts. But in the real world that frequently drops just a bit. 1.5v X 4 batteries = 6v. 6v - realworld variance = about 5.7.

Ego batteries are 3.7v li ion which have an actual 4.2v fully charged level (with variance up to 4.5v).

If you wanted voltage the same as ego, you need 3 AAA in series.

Unless I am missing something.

I get the math, but everyone says the 4 AAA vapes at 4.8 or around there. So, it is normal for my puck to measure 5.7 and my ego to measure 4.2 when the button is pushed? I thought they should read less when you push the button?

Ah, obviously I thought you meant just the battery output but you meant the circuit output. I have only looked at the "mvp style" puck. I'll look at the other one if I get time today but I'm relearning electronics right now for something I'm working on, so I might not be of help.

Actually my man, it depends on the load. Usually under a smaller ohm coil, that 5.7 volt does drop down to 4.7 and lower, depending on
how small a resistance you are driving. Also, it depends on how long it has been since you charged up the batteries.

Sometimes my 4 AA, reads 5.3 volts, but then under load it will read 3.7 volts -- Aw, time to charge it up again.

I think chip just answered your question which is what I was going to say. I was under the assumption there would be a DIY voltage regulator.
