The 4081 batteries can vary a tad because some places may sell a 103 battery and call it a 4081 battery and some are longer than others, but my 510 PCC will actually charge most (or all) of my 4081 batteries. I honestly can't remember which ones I checked and I have about 3 different kinds, but the 510 PCC did work with some of them. That's something else to keep in the back of your mind, but I agree you're not going to have good battery life from anything that size. I guess the main reason I went from the 4081 to the 510 was because most 510's are manual, whereas the 4081's are usually automatic batteries. Otherwise, the 4081 isn't that bad. The best thing with a 4081, of course, is to use a passthrough, giving you more voltage. If you can deal with a bit more size (width), I'd also vote for the eGo.

I've been using a KR808D-1 from Smoketip. Now that I've got good blank cartos and good juice, I am happy with the vape, but I have 4 batts (3.7v, 260mah) and I need at least 3 a day. I'm at the point where I think most of us get to where we are ready for an upgrade. Skip step 1 and go right to a Janty ego, which I'm headed for, or the Riva 510 or 901 which are both on sale at liberty flights.

Passthru hooks to a usb port there are a few different kinds but mainly it is used while sitting at your computer or watching TV basicly something you vape with at home and dont have to worry about battery charging. Here is a picture

LR stands for low resistance basically they run hotter then normal cartomizer and atomizers. You can expect them not last as long because of running hotter also you will find no warranty on the LR atomizers and cartomizers besides DOA

They can also be used while driving if you get a charger that will plug into your car lighter. The KR808d models are easy because they are 2 piece units. I also like the manuals rather then the auto ones they seem to last longer

You could look into an Elegant which is KR808d based the battery life is triple that of a 280mah. The Elegant is about a half inch shorter but a little thicker then the standard KR808d.

Thanks for all the help everybody! Right now I am willing to sacrifice battery life for a smaller unit. Preferablle something thats the size of a regular smoke that I could find in different colors. I want a device that is primarily set up for cartomizers and where I will be able to get blank cartomizers for. I found a link last night for a premier e -cig but its blocked here work. It looked really nice though. Thanks!

If you're talking about Premium E-cig I would recommend against that...very overpriced. I'm 99% sure those are all KR808D-1 batteries...you'd be much better off ordering a kit from somewhere like Vapor4Life if you want a nice color selection and length options (as well as excellent customer service and a solid product that will last).

I'm going to throw this out there just to get you thinking in some new directions. When I first started vaping, I felt it was essential that I buy something that looked as much like a conventional cigarette as possible, partly to avoid the stares I was afraid I'd get from some of the less conventional e-cigs. I started with an L88b (essentially a Blu or a Volcano-type, but unbranded.) It was OK, but the battery life was limited and the carts needed frequent refills. I switched to an RN4081 (starter kit from AquaVaporCigs for only $50) and found it was a big improvement. Better battery life, longer lasting carts, and still looked like an analog.

But recently I started looking into bottom fed juice box mods and decided to try the Wetbox. I really wanted one called an Ali'i (rnrmanufacturing.com) but they're custom made and in limited supply. And pricey, at $135 (not incl. attys, batteries, charger, etc.) The Wetbox didn't include a lot of essentials, either, but I was able to put together a package of what I needed to really get started for about $80.

Let me tell you, I am so glad I went this route. The Wetbox looks NOTHING like an traditional cigarette, but with an on-board 3ml bottle of juice and a battery that lasts 6+ hours, I can fill it up and go. It lasts me all day, and is a dream when driving. No more constant refilling, no need to carry a bunch of supplies, and more consistent throat hit and vapor production than the other e-cigs I own. It has some issues (hey, nothing's PERFECT in the world of e-cigs!), but all-in-all, I am happy with it.

So before you commit to the traditional look of an e-cig, or even if you DO buy a 510 and an RN4081, poke around the forum and on YouTube and look at some of the various juice feeder mods out there. There are lots of options (REO, Journeyman, Ali'i, Juice Box by Carlos, Wetbox, Mr. Puffer, the UMP) and all have their pros and cons, and all have their followers and detractors. But for sheer simplicity and convenience, any of them should do you well.

So I ordered a couple PVs last night. I got the 510 manual battery, blank cartomizers, and a wall charger from vaporkings, and I ordered a kr808-d short manual with blank cartomizers and wall charger from vapor4life. I have some e-juice coming from johnson creek and I cant wait to test it out! I'm going to try these two and compare to the RN4081 that I'm going to be returning (paid too much).

There are a couple others that I was interested in, like this one Batteries - TRIO Red Line Colored Batteries - No Second Hand Smoke. Any thoughts on this?

I'm also curious about the JOYE-302 & DSE-801 Batteries.

I think, for starting out, you'll be very happy with those choices :)

I don't know the overall length of a 302 unit as I only use their atty's - they're just a little shorter than 801 atty's. The 801 cart holds about 20 drops of juice and come with soft rubber whistle tips, the manual battery lasts at least 4 hours (I have *not* used one until dead so I don't know how long after that it would go) and the overall length of the unit is just over 6".

Haha I love vaping! I just ordered like 10 sample juices from freedomsmokeusa.com :) I'm less concerned with battery life and more concerned with reliability and small size. I figure im going to get a PCC and have a couple batteries on hand so it shouldnt matter too much. I have to say though the cartomizer 2 piece system sounds a lot better to me. I got a bunch of empty cartomizers with my orders so I'm planning on doing both the condom fill method and the traditional take the cap off method. I'm so excited!

I'm wondering the same thing. I use a 510 and wonder if that's the best for a noob.

510 is so popular it's really an adapter type - there are so many different models from the cigarette size and style to the ego style and the HV mods that use 510.

I'm glad I got one that takes 510 because the hardware is readily available... still have multiple vendors because no one vendor carries everything, but that's life in general.

good luck.

Well I think its been said before, but for the 140 bucks your getting refunded I would get two kits.

A 510 kit with two of everything for 40 bucks if you shop around (get the manual battery one IMO) Use this when you are out and about and want to feel like you have an analog in your hand.
And Get an EGO kit for 50 bucks and use it when you can. I am almost certain the EGO will become your main PV because of the battery life, but its still nice to have the 510 batteries around.

You can use the same attys or cartomizers for both so everything really becomes one deluxe kit with lots of options.

My two cents (which cost me a lot of money to figure out :))

After some more research and discussion, I went with the Riva 510. Better bang for your buck IMHO. Happy Vaping all!
