I was at the store and saw some hemp cord. Thought i would try some in the atty. Boiled the hemp first and let it dry. Cut a piece for a wick and assembled. Took a drag....yuk. Maybe the taste will go away with time. It wicks very well, but the taste is awful. I am soaking the wick in alcohol to see if the taste will go away. Not sure if this will work, but worth a try. I also thought about bleaching then boiling again.

Any thoughts?

There are some threads about using hemp wicks somewhere. Some people said it was great, others said they could never get rid of that taste. I used to make bracelets and necklaces with it as a teenager, and I remember the taste from occasionally licking the ends when tying a knot. So gross! If you can find a way to get rid of that taste, it seems like a good, natural wick material.

Soaking the hemp in rubbing alcohol overnight seems to help. There still is a little residual hemp favor, more of an earthy flavor.Just not as clean. I have two batteries going, one with silica the other with hemp.It does seem to heat the cone up more. Not sure if it is the atty or the wick. Think I need to put them down....too much nicotine...think my eyes just popped out:blink:

I will try a couple of tanks and see if that helps.

Eric- I like my 100% cotton Butchers twine.
Tried the hemp cordage...never could get rid or the 'unusual' taste via boiling...and boiling- and boiling.
But being round and firm...sure did make a pretty coil and wick.
I'm going to try some cotton gauze as a test wick tomarrow...but really like my twine...
It's going to be hard to beat it.

Interesting might have to try that. How long does the cotton twine last?

Have done two to three weeks in a RDA....
But I like ButterRum and Butterscotch,
After a couple of weeks, they tend to gunk up with the heated sugar.
The wick part is fine, but the coil area gets black and crusty hard...
I just rewick, cheap and easy.
I make five or six at a time, so it's not a problem.

how long did these hemp wicks last? was the flavor of hemp completley removed?
it be interesting to use this as its cheap in huge amounts organic.
what was the resistance you were running these on? hemp is supposedly incredibly strong, i wonder if boiling after you could reuse..
