You can use hemp wicks, but they need to be 100% hemp, de-gummed and sterilized. Not sure if what you have is suitable.
That said though, people have reported "meh" results with hemp wicks. Flavor seems to be kind of dulled/tainted, and the wicking capabilities aren't fantastic.
I'd go with organic or Japanese cotton.

Right now I use silica and like it better than cotton ...don't like to change every week
Here's a pretty informative video by Pbusardo where he side-by-side comparisons a bunch of different wicking materials.
In it, you'll see that the hemp wick kind of falls short of everything else.
