Herbalife is a fortune 500 company that is currently traded on the NYSE. I cannot say anything bad about the actual product. I used it for about 3 weeks. I didn't lose any weight, but I wasn't looking to anyway. My problem with them stems from the multi-level marketing aspect. If you have heard any ads on the radio for "incomeathome.com", well surprise. That's Herbalife. I was in desperate straits a while back and got suckered in. Now I don't want to hear about how big of a sucker I was. Remember Big
tobacco all suckered us at one point. But I paid 30+ dollars for information about the program. I was sent the info and offered a position as a retail distributor (for a measly $300.) I called and talked to my "coach." I made it clear in no uncertain terms that I was broke and had absolutely no money to invest. I then asked if after paying the $300, if there would be any more financial commitment. (I had assumed it was a drop-ship, and that all I would have to do is maintain a website and deal with paperwork. I wasn't looking to get rich, just make the equivalent of part time minimum wage.) I was
assured that no more money would be required of me except for a $30 yearly membership fee. To make a long story short, I then find out after paying my $300, that I would be required to maintain my own stock of products (thousands of dollars worth) and I would be responsible for my own advertising. There was a suggestion in the DVD that came with the program that I have my own flyers printed up. I used to work at Kinko's (FedEx Office) and I can tell you with certainty that the quantities that were mentioned would have cost several hundred dollars. Not to mention several hundred more in postage.
So yes, Herbalife took me for a ride. I'm sure the program does work for some people that have several thousands of dollars to invest, but If anybody is thinking about getting into it for the money...
don't.
