I have been going along my plan to slowly cut nicotine out of my life, which is to be followed up with a plan to slowly cut caffeine out of my life.

Since quitting smoking a year ago, I had not gained an ounce. Since I have whittled my way down from 24mg to 18mg I never gained an ounce, but now that I am at 11mg I have suddenly put on 5 lbs! I thought I would give it a little time, and I have, but now that I have been at 11mg since July I cannot shake this 5lbs. I lose it for a couple days, but then it pops right back up. I don't feel like I am eating anything extra.

Has anyone else had this problem? I've been a vegetarian for 15 years and I'm getting ready to try Atkins! I was already trying to loose weight, but now to be 5 above what I was already trying to lose? Mind you, I am not overweight at all, I am just heavier than I want to be. It is seriously ticking me off!

There has to be a change in your diet whether you realize it or not, unless perhaps you have a problem with your thyroid.

Typically weight gain comes from either 2 things.

1. Your food taste better. Enough said.

2. When you inject nicotine, it acts on dopamine receptors in your brain and activates "reward pathways" in much the same way eating does. When you lower your nicotine intake, you may be compensating for this by snacking more, or consuming additional chocolate (which acts a lot like nicotine) etc. Oh, vaping typically makes us drink more liquids, so maybe you have increased your intake of sugary type drinks?

Considering your metabolism level stays the same, excess weight can not just pop up out of nowhere.

Even a little exorcise can go a long way towards increasing your metabolism and keeping the weight off.

If all else fails and you continue to put on weight, see a doctor.

You know, its probably that I'm not working anymore.... <snip>

I used to be on my feet a lot more when working, even for a "desk job". Walking around talking to co-workers, etc. The frequent get-up, walk, sit-down was actually some daily exercise, if not aerobic, at least energy-burning. Bet I'd walk a few miles every day that way. Don't know how your work day differed from now, but I bet activity is a big part of it.

Good luck!
