Rsunderl, pretty much covered what I was going to say, three main things that helped me make the full on switch over much less painful, after finding the right set up, which for many at first is something that gives you a similar smoking experience like the "cigalikes", and some of the small disposables like Njoys is amazingly close! The ERoll is another good one that's refillable, some people report filling one up as was mentioned with a higher nic for those cravings, or possibly even a NET or WTA eliquid. The WTA and NET liquids are eliquids that naturually extract the nicotine from tobacco and have additional alkaloids in them as well that help with the craving of other addictive properties in smoke, as well as taste more authentic, like a traditional cigarette. I use to purchase my WTA juices from Aroma, they make some high quality flavored juices with WTA added or you can buy it unflavored in a VG base as a stand alone to add to other eliquids should you desire to mix your own.
You have to be careful with the 24mg WTA though, as when a craving hit and I'd chain vape it, at times I would start to feel ill, from taking too much in, it is some pretty potent stuff. I used a passthru and would sit on the computer as much as I could in the beginning, reading and researching everything I could find on ecigarettes, which is how I found this place, and that helped me get through them, reading the sucess stories, people like you, who were making it through it and quitting completely and for good. Compared to quitting cold turkey or even with nicotine aids like the patch or gum, quitting was relatively painfee and easy. I found I preferred staying away from the stronger eliquids though and being able to chain vape as much as I want, whenever I needed was more preferable so I didn't get ill, as the even the WTA eliquid didn't help me get through the rough ones and the physical habit and act of picking up a cigarette and dragging on it when I was very stressed and craving a cigarette. I worried like others if I would ever be able to put my ecig down and YES, eventually you will fall into a habit like you did with traditional cigarettes, but not only that, for me and many others, we found that we actually ENJOYED vaping after finding the right juices and set up, and we continued to do so out of a physical habit and desire, verses a "craving" and "addiction" persay. Does that make sense?? It's hard to explain but I don't crave vaping like I did traditional cigarettes, and I've since become convinced that there is something else in them, those akaloids perhaps, that create the worse cravings and make it so difficult to stop! I can easily go hours without vaping and be content, I can watch an entire movie, go somewhere, realize I don't have my ecig/mod and not freak out....it's a wonderfully freeing feeling! So to break it down....
1. Find the right BEGINNER set up, for YOU....DON'T let well meaning more "experienced" vapers, who are usually only a few weeks ahead of you, try to convert you to dripping/rebuilding, basically more advanced set ups and styles of vaping before you've learned battery safety, and thoroughly researched what you're getting into!! MORE and BIGGER clouds does NOT necessarily make for a more satisfying vaping experience, although it CAN for some people....Have a back up vape, devices get lost, stolen and can break, especially cheaper devices! Know what can go wrong and how to troubleshoot ahead of time. I relapsed a LOT in the beginning due to equipment problems and inexperience, and getting even more frustrated when I was having a hard time and having severe cravings. A simple, easy and quick set up is ideal! Make sure you have enough batteries to keep you going through your level of vaping. I was a VERY heavy smoker, 2 1/2 packs a day for 20 yrs, and I vaped at least 10 mls a day and still do. On a small "cigalike" or an 18350 battery, I used to have to change them out and charge them every few hours at least. Now almost a year later and still "chain vaping", I mainly vape on a regulated dual 18650 box mod and only have to switch out the batteries every other day most of the time.
2. Find a high quality juice that you like to vape! Watch reviews but don't buy into hype, do a little research ahead of time, try the sample packs. Get a variety but don't buy TOO much as your tastes will most likely evolve as you switch over to vaping completely and your taste buds evolve and adjust to the new substance they will constantly be coming in contact of. In the event that you stop tasting your juices as well and you've ruled out equipment issues, ie. the coil needs changed or re-wicked, battery needs charged, tanks need cleaned, etc. brush your teeth and tongue really well, rinse with something strong like Lysterine, and/or baking soda, and then swish around a few mils of lemon juice, lime juice or something acidic that you can stand. Some people say smelling coffee helps, it did me temporarily but wasn't much help in the end. The best help I found was to switch juices. Since discovering my "all day vape".....that perfect elixir that you can vape all day, every day, 24/7/365 days a year, I haven't had ANY oral issues such as "vaper's tongue" or "olfactory fatigue" as some claim is the case. Yes, your sense of smell can affect taste, so make sure your sinuses are clear, use a saline nose spray mist several times a day while you are having issues. Lower quality juices actually cause "vapor's tongue" aka "dud buds" IMHO and experience and can cause canker sores as well! Higher PG juices can irritate mucus membranes and the throat as well, hence the higher the PG, the more of a "throat hit" most will experience. A good ratio of VG/PG to start off with and for tanks is 50 VG/50 PG mix, and you can adjust from there. Max and higher VG juices do good in RDA's and drippers and the new Sub ohm tanks like the Aspire Atlantis, Kanger Subtank, and the Delta 2 by Joyetech.
For some, they have to avoid smokers as much as possible, get rid of all the ashtrays and cigarettes they have around. I was the opposite, I kept a full pack on hand...knowing I had it to turn to kept me from freaking out, going to the store and purchasing some and chain smoking the whole way home! My husband continued to smoke and the more I vaped and was around him, the more disgusting smoke was and the elated I was to finally be free of it, and I was especially happy for my kids! I wrote down and reminded myself regularly of all the reasons why i was qutting and I rewarded myself with a new mod or new juice, joining monthly juice/vape gear subscriptions like Zamplebox and Vapebox. Before too long I was starting my own group on FB, was a full on vaper, vape gear enthusiast and had a complex awesome new hobby and became a part of an awesome community!
So yeah, there's a lot to it, or it can be simple! That's one of the best things about this "habit" or "hobby" whatever you prefer to call it or whichever best fits your circumstances! You certainly DON'T have to have a full "competition" set up, a huge, monster box mod fogger machine.....there's no need to sub ohm, unless you so desire to! Just make sure you are knowledgeable and do your due dilligence prior to advancing when you feel comfortable and ready, and welcome to the "club"! I hope you have many "smoke free" years ahead of you of increased health and happiness and you make lots of cool people along the way!
