Ok, so to start the thread off, I've been vaping for about 3 or so weeks now. I bought a ego clone (Storm?) out of a B&M store and some menthol juice. Which worked for a while, but then I realized that I was getting really into this and bought an MVP 2. I also got some nicer ejuice from The Vapor Chef (Hobbes Blood, Slartibartfast, and BeebleBrox, he also sent a free sample of Honey Peary). Now ever since I got the MVP 2, no tobacco flavors seem to be working for me. I tried the Hobbes Blood just a couple minutes ago and I really like it. But the Slartibartfast has no taste other than just like..... a chemical burn or something? I can't really describe it, but it's disgusting. The description says something about a cherry taste, and I can't taste anything other than this weird burning taste. Now, I think I might have made a mistake as soon as I put the juice in and took my first vape. I didn't "prime" the wicks on the Iclear 16?I think thats the term, I was told from the B&M store that when I put in a refill of juice or a new wick that I should suck in hard without vaping it. So the first hit I got, it was absolute hell, I'm sure you all have had this taste before but it was a really bad burning taste. Anyways I could really use some help here fellas cause I would really like to be able to taste this. Also what setting on VV/VW should I use on the MVP 2 with a reading of 2.2 Ohms?

For power, try around 6 watts;

burn taste and dry hits are something that happens when you don't have enough experience; you soon learn to make sure the wick is wet before you press the button.

If you stopped smoking 3 weeks ago, be careful to note that your tastebuds are going to change, so don't buy too much of one eliquid; you might like it today, but next month maybe not; same the other way around also; as well some complex mixes might need time to 'steep' before they cure properly.

It sounds like your your coil or head is done. Do you clean it out frequently? Three weeks on one tank seems pretty good. You need more tanks and replacement parts. I am not an iClear 16 expert, but everything requires maintenance.

The juices appear to be water soluble so taking the tank apart and rinsing in how water works great.

As for the MVP and a 2.2 ohm coil, 6 or 7 watts or 4+ volts. Whatever makes you happiest.

Welcome!

make it easy on yourself and use the VW setting, start at about 7 and test vape. If it is weak, bump up 1/2W at a time till you find a decient flavor. If you go too far you will get the burnt taste again, if that happens, bump the watts back down about 1-2. dont think you will need to go any higher than 12W. Different juices taste best at different watts... My 2 favorite juices run at 8W for Legend and 12W for Pirates Booty.
Give the wick time to become wet, prime vaping ( sucking with power off) helps pull juice into the coil area...

I remember when I got my mod, I started immediately going to higher voltages. I'd seen a lot of people saying they recommended it for the throat hit. Well, throat hit be dang, it killed the fllavor for me on virtually juices...so it's definitely dependent on what you're vaping. Also, I found VW a little better than VV...I have no reason to believe there's one bit of difference, but to me, there was. I spend most of my time between 4 and 6 watts, no more.

I'm sure you've been through a set of coils or two, but remember, they go bad and can turn on a dime. You have to replace them fairly frequently, even more with tobaccos and other darker/thicker flavors. Some juices will just change on you when you're quitting...I've had more than one flavor do a complete 180 from great to terrible...and the other way around. I think when you quit other ways you don't notice your taste buds change as much as with vaping, since you're subjecting them to familiar flavors on a frequent basis. It just is what it is and thus why you oughtta heed the advice of sampling much, bulking later when you're getting started.

Definitely look into steeping too, some juices require it, some will be harmed by it...you just gotta figure it out for you, really. Priming your wicks is a pretty good idea, it works when you're in a hurry...or just let your tank sit for a bit before vaping. (You'll see what dry hits do if you get into rebuilding, it pretty much destroys the wick and it's no wonder it tastes like garbage thereafter.)

Don't worry too much about precise voltages, it changes with each juice. But, don't go super high. Start low and work your way up for each juice...there will be a point where flavor starts to turn for the worse. Somewhere in that area, it gets even more pronounced than it was before or after. That's where you wanna be.

Welcome to ECF! Congrats on the decision and hope to see you around!

Thanks for the replies guys, I guess I should have clarified that I've been through quite a few tanks. Right now, I have 1 kanger Protank 2, an Iclear 30 and about 3 Iclear 16's ( This is what both me and my girlfriend use BTW). Right now in the Protank and Iclear 30 I have a local Ejuice called wizards beard that was great at first, but all of a sudden, tasted exactly like throw up, I mean precisely like throw up. It's terrible so I'm waiting for replacement wicks for those 2 tanks. The Iclear 16 was brand new for the Hobbes Blood and the Slartibartfast. Do you guys think that terrible taste on the Slart has to do with steeping or because it hasn't settled in the wicks? When I look at the tiny bottle of the Slart that I bought, it's clear liquid on bottom and brown on top.

It's described as cherry cavendish tobacco, so it's possible that it needs to steep. Many tobaccos do. I don't have a lot of luck with any cherry but I have heard good things about his e-liquid. Maybe give it some time.

I don't use clearomizers- although many people do. Possibly it's the way I vape- I use carto/tanks so I don't get that burnt taste.

Hello Terminally and welcome. Assistance is my middle name. :)

Are those the same tobacco liquids you used in the past on your eGos? Or different ones? If the same ones, are you sure you're vaping at the same wattage? If not, there's your problem--the wattage changes the flavor and quality of the vape--often substantially.

Cherry is a tricky flavor. Most of cherry flavored eliquids taste like cough syrup--at least to me. I don't know this brand, so I can't really help.

Now, I think I might have made a mistake as soon as I put the juice in and took my first vape. I didn't "prime" the wicks on the Iclear 16?I think thats the term, I was told from the B&M store that when I put in a refill of juice or a new wick that I should suck in hard without vaping it. No, you should never suck hard. What the salesperson was suggesting was probably taking a 'primer puff', which is just a gentle drag or two without activating the battery--it helps draw your eliquid into the atomizing chamber. What you're describing is known around here as a dry hit--not a good thing. A dry hit happens when you heat up the coil but there's no juice (or not enough juice) on the coil to be vaporized, causing you to inhale hot air and possibly fried Chinese DW-40 or whatever it is they used on your coil to prime it. ;) Just rinse everything out, including the wicks, pat the wicks dry (or let them air dry), reassemble, refill, let the juice saturate the wicks and the atomizer and vape!

Since your iClear is a dual coil device, you can use it at higher wattage than you would use a single-coil atty. Set your MVP at 8-9 watts and adjust up as needed--you'll probably find your bliss at 10 watts or so (which is really more like 5 watts, but that's for another day).

Happy vaping.
