Some of you may remember the Joye Ego 18650 mod

They were very popular in 2011-2012. Even back then these were only about $15. Made by joyetech and had all the circuit protections, etc.

The problem is that most of the stuff that people seem to be coming back to are all things that fell by the wayside when people went to "bigger is better" type mods and boxes, etc.

Length was approx 4 3/8" (110mm); Diameter: 7/8" (23mm)
Tube material: Aluminum
Threading:510/eGo

omg, are you serious? quit messing with it this way.
1st Its not safe,
2nd not comfortable i guess always adjusting the tape and all,
3rd looks horrible.

Instead buy yourself some starter kit and use 1 battery for 3000 mAh, for example LGHG2, or even two batteries.

The whole point of the exercise is to create something in lieu of a starter kit. It's no different than some of the mods that folks were creating back in 2009 when trying to find something better than the original cigalikes.

Those were my first replaceable battery mods that I bought during my first FDA scare in 2013.
I have 2 of those along with 7 evic easy heads I bought for $1.99 each using the same tubes. My absolute last line of defense for the vappocolypse.

@steve121 Well done first step on the road to modding. As retired1 said alot of us got started by modding our existing equipment. Either to improve or to keep them going longer. What you will find if you keep at it is that you will continue to learn and improve. Do not let the naysayers bring you down. Those same people will be the same ones posting that there store bought mod have quit working and they now need help to fix it. Where as someone who takes the time to make one themselves tends to acquire the knowledge on how the different components work together and can transfer that to troubleshoot anything. I forsee you finding or making a small box to house all that. Or deciding to change the switch or 510 maybe adding a mosfet. Next thing you know you will be making a mod from the ground up using a OKR,DNA or such and know that if anything goes wrong with it you can fix it. Along with the pride of being able to say no I did not buy it. I made it.

Thanks for replies!
My first day of use and i am in ecig heaven.
No ghettos at Lake Tahoe, by the way.
The mod has solved my biggest problem with needing my nic fix- a reliable battery.
Battery last a day, solid hits.
Safety- can't get much safer than Nitecore protected battery.
Did the usual hike in the mountains and no need for the belt to hold up my shorts with the Subox and Surpent mini. Hardly knew the mod was in my pocket! 85 grams fully loaded.
The battery box i used has problems.
The battery post connections are poor. suggest-solder black wire direct to negative spring.
Put a blob of solder on positive post.
Or shop for better battery holder.
Function over Form!
All is good! My nic fix is covered.

Um, no. Please bone up on battery safety.

    Batteries and Chargers

Wow, in an hour or two I might actually figure out what your complaint is. Or maybe not.

Looks like to me he's got a 4A battery so yes he needed to restate to not go below 1.5 ohms on it. I don't know if there's any chance you could melt the control IC but yeah that could be bad. However, I don't believe that any 25A battery can be made as safe as a 4A one, as long as it is not routinely overloaded, simply because the violence that can occur with that much more power on tap. I also wouldn't be surprised if the original eGo battery was worse, and this holder's definitely vented.

OTOH, my only real problem with the battery he started with would be the connector coming off (due to higher strain caused by fitting so well in a pocket) and stripping of the 510 threads, neither of which this fixes. Well, that and charger issues, which this definitely improves.

I don't see any of us going off and making one of those tonight, but good to know. Maybe in a few years someone will come up with a mod (including atty) you can make entirely from stuff bought at Walmart, in 30 minutes.

Thanks for everyone's concern. But to ease your worries.
When i was 12 years (1960) old my dad gave me an oscilloscope for my birthday.
It was a Heath Kit- i had to put it together. Maybe 200 components.
I got a ham radio license when i was 13.
I've been tinkering my whole life.
Only 2 solder joints in this mod. I think all is well.

Actually, that protected battery is probably much MORE dangerous than the 20 amp high drain batteries. It is likely not a safer-chemistry battery, and, as such, could vent explosively if the circuitry fails and it is run too hard. Safer-chemistry batteries(IMR/INR) are made to vent in such a manner that they essentially just spew their guts out the top and get very hot. Non safer-chemistry batteries(ICR/NCR) do the same, and then explode...violently.

    IMR/INR venting:
