Tried posting in a forum about this tank but wouldn't let me. Anyhow I just bought the kanger sub tank less then a week ago. Have already burned out 3 coils. The .5 and 2 of the 1.2 ohm coils. The .5 I was using on a dmod with an 18650 battery. Recently bought the ipv3 and used the 1.2 coils with that at no more than 20w and fried both of them. Then I tried the rebuildable and that burned the first night. I'm very mad since I paid almost 60 bucks for this tank. Any ideas to help me out?

Welcome ogresmash, I can't be of any help to this problem, just wanted to welcome you and follow along.

I am surprised to hear that though because I've been getting very long use out of these coils, over a week of daily use... 3mg juice, max vg or 70/30. Once they start losing vapor volume, I wash them out and get another few days out of them....saving them to rebuild. None have burnt out.

I've primed them before first use and after every couple hits I'll do a couple prime hits without pushing the button. The mix I use is an 85/15 mix

I also have the subtank but I've not had issues with the coils. Perhaps you might try a different ratio of juice mix. I know heavy VG mix does have a tendency to burn out coils faster then they would usually burn out. If you can tolerate it, perhaps try a 50/50 ratio and your coils should last longer. The heavier VG is known to ruin coils faster. I'm thinking this may be your issue. I hope this helps. If you can't tolerate a lower VG you can expect the coils to have a much shorter lifespan then someone who uses less VG. Higher VG will gunk a coil faster then say a lower mix of 50/50.

So your saying you built a coil and it stopped working 2 days later ?

I am 7 days analog free. I am using the subtank as well as a dark horse. I LOVE the convenience of the subtank. However I am experiencing the same issues of burning up .5 ohm coils.I have been through 3 or 4. The last one was literally burnt in 3 hours as I was driving. I can't afford to keep buying coils at that rate. So I went to my RDA for now. I also tried putting in the 1.2 coil and I'm using it today, just trying to use it lightly and not as often and only at 15 watts. Hoping it can still satisfy my cravings, provide good flavor and not burn up. I am wondering if its because of chain vaping. I think I am hitting it fairly often when driving but on that 3 hour drive I tried to prime it AFTER every hit, that way by the time I hit it again it would of had time to wick all the way to the coil. Kinda bummed because I like the tank so much and the flavor and air flow are awesome. Any ideas anyone?

I wonder, I bought a new .5 coil yesterday, and it was shorted right out of the package. looked in it, and I could not even see the coils. there might be some bad batches out there.

I had 1 of those but i caught it before i put it in and took a toothpick and spread the coil out, it looks like some of them are getting smashed and crossing the coils causing hotspots or to short out. So i have been checking them before i replace and mine have been lasting a good week before they need rinsed. I have also been re-wicking mine after 2 uses and im liking my wicking even better.

Here's a helpful link on re-wicking
Subtank OCC Coil Re-wicking/IPV Mini/Subtank Winners - Spinfuel eMagazine

hope this helps.

Signed up to say I'm also having problems with the subtank mini. I think the cotton may sometimes be too tightly packed in causing dry burn and reducing the life span of the coil as a whole. I've found that taking a pin to the wick holes and gently pricking the cotton right through a few times seems to help it wick better. You need to be gentle and careful when doing this so as not to displace the coil position. I find slowly twisting the pin into the cotton without exerting much direct force seems to work ok for me. This works for a while but again I find the coils don't last anywhere near as long as say my old nautilus with BVC coils. Hoping it's still just teething trouble in the production process and Kanger will iron the issues out as time goes by.

Normally use a sigelei mini set to 15 watts and even at this low level on the 0.5 coils I get burnt taste if I take a big a lung hit.

Make sure you are putting enough juice down the center of the coil to saturate the cotton.

Also wait long enough between hits to see an air bubble rise up to the top.

Another thing would be to pull on it a couple times without firing the device between a few hits.

One more thing is be mindful of juice levels, the subtank will still have juice in it but not enough to cover the holes in the coil.

Lastly, break the coil in at 15 watts.

Sorry you guys are having issues. I have been having great results with mine. I don't think 2 or 3 drops down the center is enough, I was shown to put 6-10 and to visually see its saturated when I bought mine.

It may not be user error, seen a couple posts hinting at a bad batch, but I haven't seen it.

Hope I was of some help.
