Hey all, just stumbled on this site while browsing around the web and so far looks very helpful. I'm a long time smoker (30+ yrs) and just started vaping again to quit for good this time.

I came across a Target VTC 75w that i got from a friend of mine. So far so good. Just can't greet much out of it before a cough or choke. I know it puts out because my bud fired it up it before I got it to make sure. Any tips on getting that good thick cloud going?

Hi, welcome to ECF. Did your friend show you how to set up your mod, and change coils and etc.? It might be the easiest way to get to that "good cloudy" vape that you want, which will depend on many things, including what resistance coil you use, what your wattage level is at, and also the type of juice you select (higher VG produces more clouds) and, your lung capacity, which may be a bit shot for a while, but will likely improve as you continue vaping, not smoking.

If your friend can't help, watching some YouTube reviews on your device could be helpful, not so much for the reviewer's opinion, but because it will demonstrate how to use your equipment. For me a picture can be worth a million (often Chinese) user manuals. I do look at reviews when I get new devices, I just learn better that way.

Good luck on your quest to switch to vaping, and I wish you much success. :)

Welcome Fish. If you are still coughing from taking a hit slow down and don't inhale every time. Clouds will come after you learn to vape and your body gets used to it. Tiny hits at first and exhaling thru your nostrils helps.
I agree with Letitia. Take a GENTLER draw on your device until you've adapted to inhaling vapor. It may take 2, 3 weeks or longer. Vaping has a different technique than smoking.

That video may have good info but- she demonstrates smoking a cigarette as a quick, sharp direct lung hit at the 2 min. mark. I don't think I've ever seen anyone do that with cigarettes...or maybe I just never noticed that people were doing that.
She admitted in the video that it had been a couple of years since she had smoked a cigarette and wasn't sure she could demonstrate a cigarette-like drag on her mod.

I took short hard drags off of my cigs when I smoked. I recall I had one friend (another smoker) remark that I really smoked a cigarette fast.

Yeah, I think I've heard in this forum that a few people actually did direct lung with cigarettes. Never heard of that until i started vaping and joined here. But like I said, I just never noticed - I had just assumed that everyone was doing it like me and my friends growing up. I guess it could be pretty common. So you actually did direct lung with cigarettes, too?

I guess I did. I could usually finish a cigarette before someone else got half way through with theirs.

When I started vaping, though, it was definitely mouth-to-lung. Not until the last 2 - 3 years have I been vaping direct lung. Trying to vape MTL now is like sucking on a coffee stirrer, too much work.

Me too with the fast smoking. I used to annoy the heck outta my workmates by getting thru 3 while they all only had 1

I kind of get what you mean, even though I've been strictly MTL my whole life (well, except for those occasions during my "herbal" phase). It is sort of work to pace the draw right to get the proper throat hit. It'd be easier just to take a quick, open dl, but I haven't found a tank that would let me do that and get the good th. You do tobacco flavors? What tank do you use that scratches that itch?

And @Letitia - I give. What's STM? You'd think by now, I'd have all the acronyms down. But then, my brain, now in it's 50's, might have once known and forgotten.;)

Ha! See, I did know that one, just a few weeks ago! I know a lot of people loved that tank, and considered it game changing. Seems maybe a close second to Kayfuns among those that have been in the vape world longer than me. Funny, I love my Doggies, but I've been using a Lite+V2 a lot lately (after drilling it out a little). Maybe I should give one of those a try and see if another of the "classics" would be something I'd like.

There are a few originals left out there but the square coils are getting hard time find, easy to wick and build btw. Think about going with the Toptank instead. Coils aren't as good imo but they are good. For me when they switched to a vertical coil the flavor wasn't as good as the horizontal.

    Welcome and glad you joined.
The information below might help with your cough concerns not to mention other cessation symptoms.
Could see: Section 1: Medical symptoms of tobacco cessation #4
