So I received my ipv4 about a week ago and have enjoyed it for about half of that time. Put my first coil in, twisted 30 gauge 7 or 8 wraps .12 ohms. ....ing great. Still some dry hits but very mild compared to kanthal.

Anyways for the past two days I've been trying to do another build and something is different. First tried the exact same build and it clocked in at .45 ohms. Tried small diameter less wraps .23 ohms. Checked on ohm reader and it says .12 ohms perfect! put on ipv4 says .2ish everytime I try it gets higher. These coils are perfectly cool having not been fired at all. The discrepancy between my ohm reader and the ipv4 is too much. Even when I have the ohms where they should be I'm still getting dry hits.

I literally just put a 30 gauge 8 wrap .12 ohm reading .23 on the ipv4, wicked it and set to 350 degrees and it immediately burst into flames. What gives?

using Lemo 2 btw.

Have you tried cleaning the 510 connector on your IPV4? If the threads/pin are even slightly "dirty" it would cause the resistance reading on the device to go up compared to your ohm meter. Keep in mind we're talking very low ohms so even a small amount of any foreign substance on the threads or pin will make a difference.

Hey guys tell me if this makes sense:

Sometimes on my ohm reader it will read way inconsistent if the batteries are low and I realized my batteries on the ipv4 were kind of low so I switched them out and it seems to be working... for now. I have no idea if that is really the problem but I figured I'd put it here just in case.

Thanks for welcoming me here!

It sounds like the 510 connector may be dirty. The batteries being at 3.7V shouldn't make any difference.

Clean the 510 connector really well. If it's still having problems after that then I would recommend setting up a return and exchange. So far the IPV4 seems to be really reliable, but even the best products on the market have the occasional defect. Since it's new and still under warranty I wouldn't do anything to it that could void that warranty. If it doesn't work right then set up a return/repair/exchange.

Ducky, I have been using 28 and 30 gauge ni200 wire.

I have since been able to get it to run better. No longer instantly burning and giving dry hits but the temp control doesn't work like I expected and assume other people's devices do. It's almost like when running kanthal, if I take a few long puffs in a row I can tell the tc kicks in and out but it doesn't stop it.
Since I've gotten it to "work" I tried the dry cotton test and it stopped immediately and said "dry coil" but continued to pulse and try to fire slowly burning the wick. it works better but I'm still gonna try to return/replace it. Thanks a lot guys!
