Absolutely. There are several reasons to rebuild. Most coils for tanks cost $1-$5 for each coil. I can wrap a coil for about 1-2 cents.

Premade coils have a short life. My coils last 2 1/2-3 months. Every two or three days when the flavor goes wonky remove the wick Dry burn Kanthal and Stainless Steel coils and get ridbof the gunk. Install another coil Prime the wick and the vapor tastes like using a new coil.

In my Kayfun RTA i can vape for 3 months on 1 coil and replacing the wick every 2-3 days. My coil and all of the cotton rewicking costs about 20 cents.

If the FDA DEEMING regulations are allowed to stand your coil heads will go bye bye. 100 foot of Kanthal or Stainless Steel wire will last for years and years. Go to CVS or Walgreens and get organic cotton balls or 100 Kogendo cotton pads. That WILL last for a long time.

Thank you. I'm in Denmark and we don't have CVS or Wahlgreens. We have something like them though.
That does sound much better to be able to vape on the same coil for for 3 months.

Vaping becomes a hobby and tinkering goes along with it and it's fun. Don't be intimidated by coil building. It really is as easy as wrapping a wire around a drill bit 6 or 7 times. Watch a few videos on youtube and you'll be saying, "hell, I can do that". Just start with simple single coils. Get a kayfun mini v3 clone for about $15, some wire and cotton for $5 and you'll never have to buy a coil again. And you'll be able to experiment and find out what ohms works best for you.

Exactly!

Vape the resistance that works right for you instead of vaping the way others want you to.

Ultra low sub ohming makes my DIY juice taste burned. Finding my preferred resistance .8-1 ohm did two things.

My ejuice tastes better.
Longer battery life.

smokes here in canada cost around 15 a pack...

we have our own car repair garage and sell tires via it... so depending on the season my hubby and myself can be there 5 to 6 days a week. we're both computer geeks(my last job was tech support for a major Canadian telecommunications company), and we build our own comps, transitioning into building my own coils came naturally. besides 4$ or more a coil when I like juices like cotton candy or double double coffee really adds up. it's rather fun to me, but like I said I'm a geek.

I just looked at the istick pico. It looks really stylish I think. Not very expensive either.
I love my Pico and will probably get more. Very good size and it prompted me to get an external battery charger and extra batteries, so I can vape all day and not worry about USB charging. There is a limitation on the size of tank it can take due to the battery cap, 22mm fits great, not sure if it will take any bigger than that.

Thanks everyone! I'm not too good at technical stuff so I dont think ill ever be rebuilding coils.
Why would my enthusiasm be tested? I see so much positive about being a vaper instead of being a smelly smoker lol :) One of the only downsides I can see is traveling to a country where vaping is illegal...
That would be a problem. Pretty silly of governments to illegalize vaping. Here in Denmark the ejuice is legal to buy, but illegal to sell, but many vendors sell it anyway, which I find to be a puzzling fact.

I think I will buy that iPower 80, it has a nice design too.
I WOULD SUGGEST STARTING TO MAKE YOUR OWN JUICE. LOTS OF HELP HERE ON THIS FORUM, OR CONTACT VAPESHACK, THEY WILL TELL YOU ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW, CONGRATS.

The bronze one looks good!

Looks like everyone else has you covered. Vaping is much cheaper than cigarettes overall, and can be even cheaper when you build your own coils and make your own juice. If you're first starting vaping, I'd recommend getting one with replaceable coils while you learn how to rebuild. For JUST getting off of cigarettes, I usually recommend an Aerotank (for ego type batteries) or a Nautilus , since they allow a similar Mouth to lung similar to your CE5. The difference, is the coil is at the bottom instead of the top and it has a glass instead of plastic tank. I started with the CE5's like you did, and oddly enough, that's where I started rebuilding. I would take some silica, and some 32 gauge kanthal and take the coil heads apart, rewick and recoil, and continue vaping. That's where I learned the absolute basics.

A rebuildable atomizer is better setup for rebuilding though, Stick with what works for you, but once you have a good setup going, try looking into a rebuildable atomizer for learning purposes. The Kayfun V5 (or clone) is a good starter, since it offers a tighter air flow. It's not recommended for subohms though, since sub ohming requires more airflow. Think of it as a rebuildable version of your CE5 or the Nautilus.

For subohming, there is a wider variety of tanks, and many of those are good choices for one reason or another. A good standard design, is the Kanger Subtank. Although not the best at anything, it is good at just about everything. it offers a 1.2 ohm coil as well as a .5 ohm coil, and a rebuildable deck as well. It's a good starter to learn about building, since you can buy a coil if your rebuilding doesn't go very well.

My personal favorite tank at the moment is a rebuildable called the Griffin. It's more for the heavy subohm vaping and has a very airy draw.

As far as systems, I don't even know where to begin.. so many good options.

The Releaux is a heavy mod taking three batteries. my RX200 has been a solid performer.
wismec_reuleaux_rx200_tc_vw__1.jpg

The Cuboid is my preferred two battery device. It being small for two batteries and easy menus makes it a good solid mod.

For single battery mods, I like the Guardian III E-pipe for the aesthetics. It's been performing solidly, but the plastic worries me.

I am currently looking at the Eleaf Aster as another single battery mod. It seems to push all my buttons as far as options go. I can't officially recommend it, since I haven't tried it yet, but it looks promising.

It will easily take a 23 mm Tank like Orchid v2, Billow V2.

It will NOT accept a 24 mm Atty. I tried it with the dwadmodzV2 RDA. The 510 will start but after sxrewing it half way down the glass cap of the Deadmodz is flush against the battery cap and wont go any further.

But all 23 mm attys are fine

I recommend the Subtank Mini.

You can use the 1.5 ohm coil heads that is decent MTL vaping, and comes with an RBA that people can practice building on.

Then later upgrade to a real RTA.

Cool, thanks guys. I've bought a Pico today! How many watts do you recommend using on the 0,5 coil?
I also got some new juice with raspberry taste... Tasted very funny at first, but think I'm starting to like it.
Most coils have a recommended wattage on the side .

Use that as a guide but start at 50-60% of maximum wattage and work up till you find tge flavor and performance you like.

If you hit the coils too hard in tge beginning you may burn the wick and that is NASTY.

Dont forget to Prime the wick(s)

The Pico is a nice mod as well.. The .5 ohm Melo coils say they are recommended for 30-100 watts, so I would start at 30 and work up. Like what Two_bears said, be sure to prime the tank before use.

Save your old coils! One thing about the Melo, is the coils can be rebuilt and you can save some money. here's a tutorial on how to rebuild. This is similar to how I rebuilt mine. this is also how I rebuilt my CE5's.... except on a much smaller scale, and the coils were vertical.

Well, today (unlike many days...) I'm using a 0.4 coil at 22w.
I tend to stick around 15 watts normally and a 0.5ohm coil isn't necessarily the best choice for that. Depends on the design (airflow) of the coil.
I have some Kayfuns and find them OK but perhaps not my favorite. The airflow is a bit limited on the old versions (v.1 to v.3) and I don't like the new one that much as it happens. I quite like the cheap "Monster" clones mind you.
When I feel the need to vape stronger, I use a dripping atomizer (RDA) and can go between 30 and 50 watts. I like the 'Velocity' style for building but prefer the Sapor and Petri (clone) as the airflow design means less chance of spitting.
I've been gifted some RDAs over the year (nice people in the community) and don't enjoy these as much. For me, the Sapor is a great value original RDA just not for higher power....
(I could go on....zzz....)

Hi all,
I just got into vaping after being a chainsmoker for 10 years. I am currently on my 12th day without buying cigarettes, and it's been 10 days since I smoked my last cigarette. It's a
wonderful feeling. I don't miss the cigarettes, vaping is much more fun for me.

I have a couple of questions: I want to buy a fairly inexpensive mod for sub-ohm vaping.

I have already ordered an Aspire Triton tank, since I've heard it's pretty good.
Which mod should I buy? I'm currently using an iStick TC40w with an Aspire CE5-s tank and a 1.8 coil and it works well, but I want to buy another mod, just in case it breaks and also because I've become very enthusiastic about vaping. So I want to own more than one mod.
Also would it be a good idea to use a 1.6 coil instead of 1.8 on the CE5-s tank to get a thicker vapour?
Thanks in advance, I'm a very happy man these days thanks to vaping.
I look forward to using this forum and learning.

Thanks for those informative links. I have changed my mind about rebuilding. I think ill try it eventually... Looking at RDA and RBA, RBA seems much better since you dont have to drip it with juice all the time.

Frequency of dripping is based some of these factors:
1. Heat desired, sub ohm or non sub ohm. Prefer clouds over flavor
2. Deep well RDA use or not used.
3. Length of vape time.
4. Ability to physically drip.
5. Content with the flavor you are vaping.
6. Maintenance factors of device (easily serviced and frequency of desired taste)
Might want to consider an RDTA.
