Hi!
I LOVE vaping.
I have a sigelei 50W box mod with a crown tank i bought as a starter kit that works alright...i think. But i recently ordered a couple RDAs from ebay (a little boy rda and a velocity rda clone) I got some 20 gauge kanthal wire, some 100% cotton, and some e juice and very eager to start building. I just have some questions about all the technical stuff cuz i want to really understand all this vaping stuff. so i thought this site might be helpful.

oh i also have a panzer by mcv philappines with a mutation x rda but it just doesnt seem to hit very well so i use my sigelei instead.

Anyways. cant wait to start using this site. thanks!!!

Welcome! My advice would be get a mod with higher watts or get thinner wire. 50w really isn't enough to push dual 20g coils. Dual 20g coils would run well with 110w and up. If you decide to go with thinner wire maybe try out 28/32 clapton. 50w would be about perfect for a dual coil setup with that wire.

Hi @eemiely and welcome to ECF!!
I'm with skiball on the wire. 20g is REALLY thick wire. The heat up and cool down time of that wire is its biggest drawback. 28g duals would be totally doable on that Sig. Here is a link to a calculator that comes in SUPER handy for coils, batteries, estimating your ohm load, everything. This is the coil building ohms calculator page. You will see the tabs for the other calculators near the top.

Thank you so much for the link. That site is REALLY helpful. I forgot to mention that I did buy a ohm meter tester recently, still waiting for it in the mail. When I get it, Im sure I will have some questions about how to use the information it gives me when it comes to changing my builds. Thank you!

I deffinitely agree. I use 26 and 28 gauge wire.

I have 25 gauge abd it seems to have a slow ramp up time.

howdy! and welcome!

I would definitely second @LouisLeBeau 's suggestion about checking out the steam-engine.org site for coil wrapping info - it will seem overwhelming at first, but start simple and remember that it is a process... for now, I would strongly recommend sticking to the regulated devices (leave the mech alone until you get a better comfort level with battery safety and understand the impact of coil building first) - the regulated devices (like your sigelei) will give you some safety features and buffer your learning curve a bit - a decent clapton wire, as suggested, would also be worth checking out (28ga core, 32ga wraps is a very good starter spot) and you can find both pre-made clapton wire and pre-made coils pretty readily

I'm using the brown lg hg2's, between .15 to .7 ohms, with wire that varies from 28g to 32g(kanthal Clapton/ribbon or SS316 round) depending on the build, for 60/75w devices. for a new builder getting wires in that range is kinda easier... a coil jig is nice as well, not 100% needed but I like a more accurate measurement.

A Coil Jig is just a Tool that helps you wind a Coil. It isn't absolutely necessary. But it does make it Very Easy to wind coils.

I like this type of Jig...

so when you buy one does it come with different sizes? (I knwo it doesnt come with the different sized coils I mean like the metal part you twist the coil onto...does it come in different sizes)

Some of these "Coilers" have just 1 Size Mandrel. So you can Only make 1 Inside Diameter (ID) size Coil.

Others are a "Kits" and include Multiple Size Mandrels. So you have more Choices for the Inside Diameter (ID) of the coil you make.

I use this one...

$5.57 Universal Tools Wire Coiling Tool w/ Phillips & Slotted & Hex Key Screwdriver Bits - green / 3.5mm + 3.0mm + 2.5mm + 2.0mm winding rods at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Nice Range of Mandrel Sizes. And a Plastic Box that keeps everything Organized. And room for a Blue Screwdriver and a Small Pair of Tweezers.

Just be aware that Fasttect (FT) is a Chinese Company. Great Prices. And Hundreds and Hundreds of e-Cigarette items. Just takes about 3 Weeks for Shipping.

ETA: These Coiler Kits aren't that much more expensive to buy State-Side if you shop around
