Hi! New at this. Choosing the right Mod/Kit!

Hello everyone!

I'm from Chile and I decided to register here because I want to try vaping and learn more about all these things!

Right now I have a JustFog 1453 but the tank connector is broken (the eGo connector does not screw to the battery) and both parts work if I push them together but the experience isn't really good (I also bought a new JustFog C14 tank but probably things won't change that much I believe).

I also want to see if getting a better vaper will help my husband to stop smoking, he was the original owner the previous pen and he bought it hoping it could do the trick for him but it didn't work. He never really liked the vapor he got from the pen, so I don't know. Perhaps a better one will do it?

So, for that reason (and others) I want to get an advanced device because if I end liking the vaping experience I don't want to spend too much more cash to improve it even further (and usually what's cheap in the end tends to be more expensive in the long run) so there are some things I'm looking in this first kit/mod:

  • Good build quality, it should be able to last a good couple of years if I take good care of it.
  • Future proof (as in, a device with "new" electronics, updateable firmwares and with more readily available accessories).
  • 510 thread connector or the possibility to connect an adapter.
  • Accessories/parts that can be manually replaced if they fail. For example, changeable coils (I think these are called RDA, RTA or RDTA, right?).

So after googling and reading a lot I found information regarding what's a mod, a kit and everything in between (probably I'm still confusing some more specific terms but at least I have an idea of it). And sadly some vendors don't really state all the differences in their models, or why some have a different name.

Anyway, I've narrowed my search to these devices:

Vaporesso Gen, Gen S or Luxe II
Voopoo Drag 2 Refresh Edition, Drag X or Argus GT

I know the Vaporesso Gen and Gen S as a mod are pretty much the same and what changes are its colors (love the Lime Green Gen S) and the taml I'll get, the Gen comes with a SKRR-S and the Gen S with a NRG-S. The Luxe II kit is a Luxe S with an Axon chip instead of the Omni Board 4.2 (the same one as the Gen and Gen S) and it also comes with a NRG-S tank.

While I'm more inclined for the Gen S (I want the Lime Green color!) or the Luxe II, none of these are available where I live which makes me saaaaad. And I think there are no RDA coils.

For the Voopoo ones all of them come with the same tank and there's a PnP RDA coil for them! Which makes me feel really happy! Mostly because I would be wasting less "materials".

The Drag X and the Argus GT are slightly newer and both come with USB-c (but probably won't be using it that much) but it's good to have a new "port" on a machine and it seems it comes with a slighter newer chip as well, the Gene.TT instead of the Gene.Fit of the Drag 2 Refresh Edition. Dunno how different both chips are but main difference between the devices is the Drag 2 can use coils between 0.05ohm and 5ohms vs the 0.1ohms and 3ohms of the Argus GT and the Drag X which I suppose is better for the Drag, as it means it can take much more power compared to the other device... but who really will smoke something at such high power? Between the Argus GT and the Drag 2, which one is more future proof considering the Drag 2 is a very well known mod.

I also know I can also buy a new tank such as the GeekVape Zeus X RTA and use it on all those devices (with the Drag X being the only exception, but there's a mod that can allow me to use a 510 connector on it), allowing me to use my own coils and my own stuff.

So yeah, that's where I am right now hah. Veeery undecided haha.

Perhaps I should just buy a Vaporesso Gen mod with a GeekVape Zeus X RTA? It might be a good plan on the long run and that way not worry for commercial coils, or should I wait for the Gen S? Or the Luxe II? Or go str8 for something else?

I'm all ears, and thanks if anyone actually managed to read all this! <3

Thanks again! :D

That's a very good plan (for the long term solution) but it sounds like you need something right now to get you going. Just get a simple AIO (all in one) device for now but also try to get the mod/tank you mentioned. I can't give you good advice on where or how to order things (I'm in the US) but others can help you with that. A simple device with "drop-in coils" for now (and yes, you will need to order extra coils) but jumping right into building your own might be too much for you (for now) and lead to frustration. Do both if you can afford it.

RDA, RTA, RBA, ect means you install the coil and wick yourself (hard at first but get's easier each time you do it) Most tanks and AIO you just replace a pre-made coil/wick... they are generally sold in packs of 5. There are also "pod mods" and some are good solutions too (but the pods can end up costing even more than drop-in coils for tanks) I have one I like but the pods cost $6 each... my drop-in coils for tanks cost $3 each.
It also depends on the style of vaping you like... low power/less vapor/tighter draw (MTL) or more power/ more vapor/looser draw (DL) Maybe too much info all at once but you have a lot to learn and not much time to figure it out (if you don't know what I mean, don't ask... it's getting hard to help newbies and having to explain this over and over)

There are some companies that sell stuff that's really close to where I live, which is a big pro I believe. They sell the Luxe S (only as a kit), Gen (kit and mod), Drag 2 (only the platinum kit) and the Drag X and S.

Sadly the prices are rather "inflated". A Drag X can be seen at $65 to $70 USD and the Drag 2 or Gen can go between $95 to $100 (all without batteries). A decent AIO (which interchangeable pieces) can go for $55 USD and for those prices I'd rather jump the wagon into something more expensive hah, since I don't want to "waste it" for late.

I also love to work with "detailed" things, so building my own sounds more fun than frustrating (and I would be generating less trash!) but I know it might be an issue is I do it wrong (and I will) for the first times hah.

Thanks for the information!

The main reason why I like the idea of building my own stuff is mainly because I would be generating less waste and because I think I might get a bigger selection of stuff but to be extremely honest I'm lost right now regarding MTL and DL setups, it's something I found out around but I still don't know... and that's why I'm rather interested in going for a kit and try things with it and THEN decide more regarding the other things.

And once again, don't worry hah. What you say is true! Thanks again! :D

Bienvenida. You soy chilena pero vibo en Nueva Zelanda. There are a few reviews here about all the above kits and RTA if you want to have a read. I dont have the Gen but I have heard good things about it, Vaporesso in general does great kits. Either way you go you can combine it with any RTA.

Some reviews:

VAPORESSO GEN S KIT REVIEWED BY BIGBOB2322

VOOPOO ARGUS GT KIT REVIEWED BY BIGBOB2322

VooPoo Drag 2 / Drag Mini Refresh Edition Kit

VOOPOO DRAG X AND DRAG S REVIEWED BY BIGBOB2322

GEEK VAPE ZEUS X MESH TANK REVIEWED BY BIGBOB2322

The Zeus X RTA uses mesh if I am not wrong, it might be better to start with one that use a single coil.

Oooh, hola compatriota! Espero que las cosas por Nueva Zelanda estén bien! :D

I will give a check to all those reviews! And I'm glad to hear Vaporesso makes good stuff! There's another device that I like and it's made by Geekvape, the name is Aegis X but it's never on stock :'(

Also, there are two Zeus X, one with mesh (Zeus X Mesh RTA) and one without mesh (Zeus X RTA) and it can use up to two coils!

When deciding a tank it will matter if you are MTl or RDL or DL user since MTL the airflow is smaller.

I will give it a shot to this! Perhaps I'm missing more than what I should!

Thanks! :D

Ningun problema compatriota, Aca las cosas bien por suerte, por alla se que tienen algo de libertad durante la semana.

Geekvape do durable products like Aegis solo, max, legend and the X which has a whole side as a screen. I only own the solo, the X I will be a bit weary just because a drop could break the screen if I am clumsy lol

Vivo justo en el centro así que finalmente ahora vamos a tener algo de "libertad". Algo es algo, jaja.

And I won't lie, I love screens so the X really makes me want to get it, hah. And good to know they make good stuff!

Anyway, thanks for everything! :D

Hello @BigBadLion, have you heard about the Dovpo Topside Lite mod.

Topside Lite Mod - Dovpo

Don't know if it's of any interest, but it does give you 2 options. A regular regulated mod or a regulated Squonk mod.

Unfortunately I don't know more than that about them, so it may be worth asking more about if it is of interest.

The Freemax Twister 30W kit with the Fireluke 22 tank is another interesting looking option, the tank especially as it uses a standard 510 connector so can be used with other mods.

Twister 30W Kit | Freemax - Taste the Clouds, Feel the Flavors!

Fireluke 22 Tank | Freemax - Taste the Clouds, Feel the Flavors!

The Fireluke 22 supposedly covers restricted DTL to true MTL with 3 different resistance coils (0.5 ohm, 1.0 ohm and 1.5 ohm) and they're SS904L mesh, so could possibly be used with TC (Temperature Coefficient/Temperature Control).

I'm waiting for the Fireluke 22 tank to be released myself, as I've been looking for something to use when I'm sorting out a rebuildable or three and need something that I can use to retain what little composure I have.

Just saw them thanks to you! They look like some fine devices but I'm looking for something more like a proper mod!

Still thanks a lot for the recomendation!

Go get your aegis X lol. Many here love the aegis max (single 18650 to 21700 batteries) just in case :)

Or the one which should never ever be sold in Chile because of the name :lol:

Welcome to ECF and congratulations on quitting smoking, and good luck in your journey...

I wanted to ask, it sounds like vaping is legal then where you are?

You know if you order from Fasttech, you can save some money from your local prices.

Aegis Max, Mod only:
$48.00 Authentic GeekVape Aegis Max 100W TC VW APV Box Mod - 1-100W / 100-315'C(200-600'F) / 1*21700/18650 / IP67 waterproof at FastTech - Free Shipping

Aegis X, Full kit, standard edition:
$69.92 Authentic GeekVape Aegis X 200W TC VW APV Box Mod Kit (Standard Edition) - 4ml (24*21mm (OD*ID)) / 5.5ml (27*21mm (OD*ID)) / 0.2ohm / 5-200W / 100-315'C(200-600'F) / 2*18650 / IP67 waterproof at FastTech - Free Shipping

Vaporesso Gen (*v1) mod only:
$43.24 Authentic Vaporesso GEN 220W VW TC APV Box Mod - 5-220W / 2*18650 at FastTech - Free Shipping

Vaporesso Gen S, full kit:
$57.75 Authentic Vaporesso GEN S 220W TC VW APV Box Mod Kit - 8/5ml / 0.15/0.18ohm / 5-220W / 2*18650 at FastTech - Free Shipping

Shipping takes a while, but the savings is often worth the wait, and it sounds like your local prices are fairly high ..

Batteries are always sold separately, however. As well as external chargers... full kit just means a tank is included in the mod box...

As you have seen... many people here to help you. Looks like you have a good plan. Still, whatever mod/kit you decide on (still too soon for rebuildables but keep those in mind... maybe get one anyway for later) I really suggest just getting a simple AIO device also (for now) I know this is all a lot to think about but if you can afford it, we can help you get good deals and be set for awhile ;)
