Hi all.

Not sure if introduction threads are appropriate or encouraged, so if not - feel free to remove.

Been a lurker for a week and decided to sign up today, can I just say, it is awesome to see so many great people giving so much advice on here, it's really thrown me how supportive and informative this place is.

I've been smoking since I was 17, regular brands until moving on to roll ups at age 20 (no filter). I'm now 33 and decided it's time to quit, after approximately 10 years of NRT which worked briefly, before back on the 20-30 a day habit.

My partners Mother started on a e-cig which looked like a regular smoke, gave that a try and failed miserably to quit. Was an over the counter job from a newsagent (E-Lite I believe). I work in a large office with designated smoking areas and noticed people using some kind of "sonic screwdriver" devices, and started asking some questions - a month ago, finally sourced an Ego-T battery with a CE-5 (I think) tank, and got some 24mg juices, and away we go.

Not had a "smoke" since.

I've encountered a LOT of negativity, since "vaping" - from my smoker girlfriend, who doesn't see the point, to family and friends that just say "quit, forget that and just "quit". So, finding this forum has been a god send, trust me. I now see I'm not alone vaping, and the benefits of a community to just back me up mentally and emotionally.

I think vaping is the future, and find the idea of smoking odd now. 34 days to the day since a real smoke and feeling better, smelling better, and my skin, teeth, hands, nails, everything, is better.

Sorry for a long intro post, but without E-Cigs and Vaping, I reckon I'd have smoked 20-30 rollups until I died an early death, my god Vaping is a MUCH better alternative.

God bless, and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Welcome -- and congrats.

I quit cigarettes one time for six months but then restarted again because my wife did. Remember this has to be a personal journey or one can fail.

Having said that, I can't imagine why would anyone in the "know" would choose smoking over vaping. I suppose hate from anti-nicotine zealots or the tobacco lobby, restrictive laws equating to "tobacco", or punitive taxation could force me back onto cigarettes -- but I will go kicking and screaming.

Welcome to ECF and congrats on quitting the stinkies! I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing so much negativity. It sucks. I have an uncle who thinks I should go back to SMOKING over vaping. He fell for all for all the media hype over there not being enough scientific data on them. Well, someone needs to vape long enough to provide data for long term studies, no? If we buried every new piece of technology that has ever come out, we'd still be living in caves. It never sunk in unfortunately, and he's a two pack a day smoker. Really, I think smokers can be the worst in this. They've been ostracized and stigmatized for so long that it's a knee jerk reaction to anything that may threaten their cigarettes.

I've encountered these people, and you'll never make them happy. You can tell them you're trying gum/patches/hyponisis anything, it doesn't matter, and they will give you a passive aggressive "I don't see why you can't just quit". It's almost like it gives them some kind of power of you to s**t all over anything you are trying. Trust me, if you did quit cold turkey these same people would be giving you "I can't believe you smoked for so long" lectures, and constantly asking how close you are to starting up again. Just ignore them :toast:

Welcome dude.

You and I are almost identical in timing. I started analogues when I was 17, and am now 34 and had enough a few months ago.

Thankfully my girlfriend is uber supportive of my vaping, and has even started trying some of the 0mg nic samplers that have come with some of my online orders.

...and yeah, no question about feeling better. It's nice waking up in the morning and not sounding like Golum from Lord of the Rings when he coughs, as well as being able to taste and smell things again. I forgot I had those senses, lol.

My wife is the same place as your girlfriend. She quit 15 years ago cold turkey and she does not understand why I cannot. She has said that all I am doing is replacing one bad habit with another. I had my last analog 30 days ago and have no desire to have one.

Nice intro , you might consider getting a kit for your GF with a juice flavor you know she'll go for and have her give it a shot , she might respond favorably if she has her own bit of gear if nothing else it'll pique her curiosity , as far as everyone else is concerned you might have to tell them to mind their own business family included and just do what's right for you .

I got her a kit, with "regular tobacco" juices. She went out and got blueberry, menthol, etc. She prefers the "real deal" and gave it back. I'll persist - but she thinks I'm a geek (I am - and proud) and I think she will die young, at this rate. Her mum smokes, her brother smokes, etc.

I'll keep at it :) I'll win her over. She still maintains my Ego-T with a CE5 is a sonic screwdriver. Just wait until I get a MOD.... ^.^
