I grew up with smoking parents. It seemed natural to me to start once I was old enough (dad was a Police Officer, didn't dare start before then). Been sucking at the coffin nails for 40 years. I've tried everything to quit. Chantix, Wellbutrin, Nicorette gum, patches, even went "cold-turkey" for as long as 3 years after a severe asthma attack landed me flat on my back for two days in the hospital and almost killed me, but I started up again.

I'm usually regarded as a reasonably-intelligent woman, but this nicotine addiction has me by the short-hairs.

I see e-cigs and vapors as my last best hope to finally get rid of the coffin nails and maybe "beat the odds" in my family, and live to 65.

I'll be doing a lot of reading in the forums, and may from time to time ask a dumb question. Bear with me, I'm new to vaping. Fortunately I have access to a local small business that mixes many tasty e-juices, and I've bought some good starter equipment to get me going.

I found the "How to Smoke an E-Cig" topic to be very helpful and informative. I was doing it wrong. :)

Cool thanks, y'all are kind. :) It really makes a difference if ya treat vapors like a cigar. Inhaling usually makes me cough, savoring the flavor (and absorbing the nicotine in my mouth and exhaling slowly) is way more satisfying.

I just might get the nasty carcinogenic monkey off my back this time. Keeping my fingers crossed. And my toes.

Hi and welcome to ECF! Sounds like you are off to a good start already-wishing you success with your quit! Vaping is the only thing that has worked for me successfully-I tried the patches, gum, and cold turkey before...there is an adjustment period but for me it wasn't long-everyone is different though...good luck to you!

Welcome to ECF ! I'm so happy for you - deciding to quit is easy it's sticking to it that can be difficult. I bought my E-cig a month ago and haven't smoked a cigarette since, I think it was the best decision I ever made. I was spending $150 a week and smoking 45-50 cigarettes a day - working my way into an early grave. The best advice I can give to you is find some flavors you enjoy and don't try to go down with the nicotine too fast. I am glad you made the decision to quit and even though you may have some hard days where you want to smoke stick with it ! After a week you'll get more used to vaping and won't have those cravings. Good luck to you on your journey.

Hi Ceejay - I too smoked for 40 years and only ever once tried to stop (when I was about 21 and only lasted about a week !). About 5 years ago I did cut down from a pack a day to about half and then 2 years ago I went right down to 5 or 6. Towards the end of 2013 I decided to give vaping a go, smoked 2 or 3 cigarettes a day as well, but if I ran out, just vaped until I was going out to the shops and could get some more. Then on 19 December, having smoked the last ciggie in the packet, I decided not to buy any more and have been vaping only for the last 6 weeks. I must admit for the first couple of weeks I did miss my first thing in the morning and after dinner at night cigarette but I think I can say I have got over that now, and if I can do it, (and I never thought I could), then anyone can !! Good luck.

Hi Ceejay. 34 years here at an average of 2 PAD and never thought that I would be able to quit. A family member told me about vaping and after a couple of months I decided to give it a go. Ordered a simple Ego set up and on the first day cut down to 12 cigs, second day was 8 and the third day 4. Zero on the fourth and I'm on day 16 smoke free. Good luck and stick with... one of the best things I have ever done.

Foot note; I did within the first week upgrade to a Itaste MVP that I believe helped me stay off of them. Night and day difference between the Ego and the MVP.

I think it's amazing how well it works. I'm an ex 33yr 2pck/day smoker for over a year now and vaping is the reason. I've tried everything but hypnosis and nothing worked until now. Good luck to you, I know you can do this! Happy Vaping! :vapor:

I even tried hypnosis. For the first couple of days it worked, after that it was back to cigs. So good you saved your $$ there. I tried everything other than Chantix, which kind of scared me off. I haven't had or, more importantly, WANTED a cigarette since I started vaping. Trying not to be too cocky about it--has only been a couple of weeks. But I think this is it!
