Hi all

I have only just joined and i am looking through the stickies and other threads to see if there is any advice that would suit my current situation but as always with forums and e-cigs the combinations are many and varied.

So I apologize if this has been posted before.

I started with a ciggy look'a'like about 12 months ago but after a few of these breaking and not supplying the hit i wanted to quit tobacco i moved to the Aspire premium starter kit (mini nautilus and cf-vv battery) this has served me well for 8 months or more but stopped working yesterday.

Without going back to smoking i need to get a new device and was directed to the Smok R80 box with a Micro TFV4 tank. Only had the device for a day and it is so much better than the aspire and a completely different world from the ciggy look'a'likes.

So i am now sub ohming! whatever that means but i am enjoying the flavor.

My questions are:

Can i use the nautilus on the R80 box? if so how should i set up the R80 settings and is there any point?

Can i repair the Aspire CF-VV - it worked fine but just stopped mid toke, attaching it to the charger does light up the lights but when off the charger the button to toke does not light up. Should i hazard a guess that this is the battery that has died and i could just get a replacement? or is this a little more terminal. I dont like to waste things so it would be nice to have it running again as a spare.

I have found the TFV4 tank to be a bit airy, i have adjusted the airflows but still find it a bit too much. Is there a (well priced) tank that you experienced members would recommend. I like to feel a little resistance when i take a toke.

Finally for now, i started using tobacco only juices when i first started as i loved smoking and liked the taste however as i have continued i really like the fruity juices. Can anyone recommend a good Apple and Watermelon flavor as this is what i am really liking at the moment. I also bought some DIY e-juice supplies but have found it hard to get a good mix, some advice on flavors and DIY Juices would be great.

Thank you for any replies.

Yes, the Nauti and the TVF4 are very different animals. The Nauti is a lower wattage topper and well reputed for good flavor and simplicity. I had about 6-7 of them back in the day, but they are still very viable. I just PIF'd the whole collection to a friend who wanted simplicity. The continued use is just an testament to their quality.

The TVF4 is a high wattage topper used more by hobbyists. I think they are both close to the being at opposite ends of the spectrum.

Your Smok R80 has a 510 connection and either, and most other toppers, will work on it. Many go way above the Smok's 80 watts with the TVF4. They would be the hobbyists.

I think your Aspire is a gonner... I would get another...something so that you have a back-up, though. The question is what do you like, what direction do you want to go, and what do you want to spend to get the best quality FOR YOU. Your two toppers are an example. Do you want to keep things simple or do you want to get into the extreme hobbyist world?

IMHO...

Wow thank you all very much for your replies and advice.

I've just realised the cf-vv battery is a sealed unit, had hoped I could just take apart and replace but it will go to the bin now. Or I might contact aspire as 8 months use doesn't seem a lot.

Just tried the nautilus on the r80 and reduced wattage but no vapor or sound of firing? Would have liked to try it so any suggestions would be great.

I guess I'm going down the hobbyist route. I really like the idea of reuse and rebuild, even throwing old aspire coils away felt wasteful. I did find a tutorial on YouTube on how to rebuild these but it was quite fiddly. So start simple and work my way up! :).

Thanks again peeps

Thanks.

By primed you mean has liquid and this is in the coil? The nauti came off its dead battery yesterday at about 9pm and was toking up till then. So I think it is?

R80 set to
Wattage mode
Coil nickel
Temp norm
Ni TCR 0.600
Initial ohm 0.300

Tried 7watts to 15.

I have an old crappy pen battery which I bought back when I first started, the nauti fires in that.

E-cig manufacturers tend not to even enter into conversations with 'customers'.. your warranty is with the shop you bought it from. Basic batteries are rarely more than 3 months.
Put it this way, I bought a £100 Joyetech mod in 2013 which lasted 5 months.
Joyetech refused to discuss the issue and my vendor said "3 months".....

That's how it is. I say this because it does matter where you buy hardware. The 'top' UK e-cig store weren't even capable of replying to emails throughout 2012-2013. They just let their customers stew with frustration and annoyance.

Eventually, you get used to it. Don't buy certain makes until the product has been out long enough.
Expect *some* products to be short-term buys.

Sounds like you're in TC mode. TC mode has a watts setting, but that's not what you want for the Nauti. Check your instructions for switching to VW mode. All you should see is the watts and something like 1.6-2.0 Ohms.

Brilliant, good advice.

I have a bit more time to mess with it now the kids are down.

I'll check the pin, I had that problem before with the aspire battery. Could always use a little kit Kat wrapper

I've messed about with the ohm settings but still no fire, pins looking likely.

Thanks for heads up on manufacturers, they have always been a bit fly by night in my opinion which is why I have resisted the more expensive options.

Going fiddle with the pin a bit on the nautilus.

I don't hold them in such a bad light; I mean the vapers are doing it to themselves by supporting certain brands, the companies are just selling. The community should be putting far more pressure on them.
One of the curious things about vaping is how the hype and social media is far more powerful than negative reviews and poor customer satisfaction.
Consider the current position with Sigelei... it's madness. They say what they want about products and can't bear it when people actually bring them to account. The early industry was built on downright lies (e.g. one cartomizer is 40 cigarettes) and the big bully-boy brands (who I can't mention, but they sell regular equipment, only re-branded at another 200% profit) celebrate another £100m sales based on fooling people who don't know any better.
21st century capitalism totally unchecked by the one resource which should stop this sort of behavior - the internet.

(kind of serious tonight)....
