Hey y'all from Chicago! I joined this forum 8 years ago when I started vaping. I just rejoined because of this attack on my vaping liberties. Don't make no never mind to me, because I'm stocking up like the rest of you. I have also sent a letter to my IL governor, Chicago mayor, and both senators. Fat lot of good it will do me but I'm fightin' MAD. First my already astronomical property taxes are going up again, but now this.
Here is my letter. I suggest anyone who is in a state where they are using us as scapegoats writes something similar.
My name is Kristin Mosley. Before I started vaping 8 years ago, I'd smoked for 20 years, had COPD, and needed an inhaler just to get out of bed in the morning. I started vaping 8 years ago and according to my doctor, my lungs are clear and healthy. I havent used an inhaler in 7 years. I've been making my own vape liquid for just as long, which is what my letter to you is about.
Your vaping ban is a total witch hunt, to quote my least favorite person in America, and a completely useless. It is just going to push vapingg onto the black market where it is unregulated and could also cause a further and potentially more harmful health crisis. Let me explain.
Any enterprising individual anticipating black market vaping liquid need can go online and purchase a up to 55 gallon drum of 1000 mg/ml of unflavored, undiluted PURE NICOTINE. They don't even need to be a wholesaler. It's available in pretty much any size you want to buy it in. Most people vape 3-10 mg/ml. You do the math on how much vape liquid a 55 gallon drum of pure nicotine that will make.
HOPEFULLY the black market sellers you are going to create are good at math and get the dilution ratios right and use safe dilution liquids and safe flavorings when they start selling it. Because nicotine is DEADLY, likely more so that Vitamin E acetate.
HOPEFULLY anyone who sells it on the black market is moral enough to not sell it to young people.
You could outright permanently ban all vape liquid, and any could buy a pack of cigarettes and extract the nicotine straight from the cigarette into propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine, flavor it with food grade flavorings and make their own nicotine liquid. It would taste like a flavored cigarette but people will do it. There are instructions ALL OVER the internet on how to do it so you better illegalize that too.
Attacking the electronic cigarette industry is ridiculous. The FDA has been closely regulating nicotine liquid for almost a decade, and it has NEVER caused a health crisis such as this.
Marijuana and all of its various products need to be taken out of the black market, and regulated FEDERALLY. Until it does, partial legalization is going to cause a flood of products that can be tampered with on the black market for increased profits. The black market is not regulated and not necessarily safe, in case you haven't noticed.
But hey, I just bought enough nicotine concentrate to last me 6 years. I can store it in my freezer. I'll do what I've been doing as a vaper for the last 8 years. I buy the concentrate, dilute it with a combination of propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin, and add my food grade flavorings. They sell every flavoring under the sun, by itself, which is totally legal. Why? Because I REFUSE to give ANY tax revenue on my vaping to an institution that has been bashing it since its inception. I personally prefer a nice caramelly vape, which goes well with my morning weed and coffee.
THERE ARE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF US WHO MAKE OUR OWN. And like marijuana being illegal doesn't stop us, this won't stop us. Get your hand out of Big Tobacco's pockets and please remove your head from your bowel cavity and place it back on your shoulders and regulate. Stop forcing your nonsensical and draconian laws and regulations down our throats.
I vow to you that I will never sell vape liquid. I am too busting my keister to pay my property taxes on the home my family has owned for 60 years. By the way, thank you for the increase on my property taxes again. I currently have family home up for sale, and I have decided to leave my beloved Chicagoland area because I cannot stand or afford my local and state goverment's GROSS mismanagement, corruption and greed.
All hail Michael Madigan, the State of Illinois, Crook County, and the City of Chicago. You're all doing a great job and have been for decades or your own pockets.
Sincerely,
Kristin Mosley
