Interesting," "If there is a 10 percent increase in taxes, then smoking participation will fall by about 2.3 percent," Sharaf said."

Let's take a closer look at NY. Their cig tax was $1.10 in 2000 and is now $4.35. Their smoking rate in 2000 was 23.2% with 3.3m smokers. The state tax was increased 392% over that time or 39, 10% increases. At a 2.3% drop per 10 % increase in taxes, the smoking rate should have dropped. NY states smoking rate should now be 6.24% not considering local and national increases. Since NY state no longer has a smoking epidemic, why do the need smoking bans?

I remember saying I'd quit when cigarettes got to 50 cents. Then 75 cents, a dollar, 2 dollars, and I finally stopped saying anything when I didn't stop at 2 and a half bucks. When I finally stopped smoking and started vaping, smokes were a bit over 6 bucks here in California. Price is no deterrant for a hard core addict.
