Higher voltage = shorter atty lifespan?

Not that I'm aware of, but I'm still fairly new too.

Voltage is Voltage. All the 3.7v mods do to my knowledge is provider higher mah (milliamp-hour) ratings, which give more consistent power for longer periods of time between recharges, and utilize generic batteries that are available from many sources for cheaper/easier-to-find parts...

So a 3.7v mod battery will run hotter than a stock 3.7v 510 battery?

Oh absolutely. That's is really, imo, the main benefit of the 3.7V mods and the 14500/510 combo - big vapor without burning out flavor which you can do with the HV mods, imo. Well you can dumbdown an atty to do better with the HV's, but why? Of course the battery life is a big part but if there was a mod that got me supermini vapor that lasted three days - I'm not interested. But get the vapor from a Bartleby or Protege even for 4 hours (I can get 8 rather easily), then I go for that one.

The reason is, is that the non proprietary/non -oem batts can, first, _reach_ peak volts - see Scottbee's post on "Battery - Surprise" and then hold peak volts for hours.

Wow, thank you very much, Kent C. That I did not know and its info certainly worth knowing when one is just getting his feet wet in this endeavor. I'm already daydreaming about my next pv and that helps a bunch.:)

Glad I could help. It took me a while to figure it out - in fact, you really don't know until you've tried one - then it's 'oh, that's what the deal is with mods - wish I would have know that earlier' ;-) And it really helps when you stumbled into the right starter kit too. lol

I use 5v exclusively and I dont really see a difference in lifespan from 3.7 to 5v on my atties. As long as you treat them right and keep them moist I dont see a difference in lifespan

You're right, except for me, I tend to be 'absent minded' when vaping -enjoying the flavor and vapor and I tend to forget this part - 'As long as you treat them right and keep them moist'. Lol. With the 3.7V it's more forgiving for that stuff. I still have and vape the 5v but with cartos where the wattage isn't as great than with the 510 - something like 6.5 vs. 17w which can go dry rather quickly.

Yeah at 3.7 they are definately more forgiving. When you get up to 6v and higher its better to get a HV atty as they are made for those volts and higher but same principals , must keep them wet as can be and they will run for a long time. Ive only had 3 atties die on me in the last 4 months and 2 of them were my fault cause I was doing dry burns on em and went a tad to far LOL

In 9 months I've lost 4 - the first was a dry burn gone bad ;-) I lost two on a 5V not paying attention (2 in one day even - d'oh). And one was a bad switch on a Protege that kept burning after I set it down. None have died of 'old age'.

Yeah Kent they really are durable and cause of all the juices I mix I have to switch often so I have about 16 on rotation and after a week or two I usually give them a CPH Crest Pro Health soak, rinse with hot water and then about 20 minute soak in Vodka, blow out and let dry then its another 2 weeks. I like fresh atties for testing.
