Batitude and Thrasher have gotten into my head the need to use the right kind of battery. OK - only safe chemistry batteries for me. No problem.

However, it has also become clear during my battery education that different companies use different testing procedures and methods to rate their battery capacity in mAh.

Thus, one company's 2000 mAh may well behave and drain just like another company's 1600 mAh, both of which might well be identical to a third comany's 2400 mAh... You see where this is going, I'm sure.

So, instead of highest safe drain rate for a mech, who's got the best lifespan, actual capacity, vape time in a regulated mod (such as a Provari, DNA20, or even chinese 33.3 mod)?

I know AW has a great reputation for being a safe, reliable battery with a long service life. However, does their 2000 mAh really compete with, say, a panasonic hybrid rated at 2900 mAh? I've seen some batts advertised up to 3400 mAh specifically for use in regulated mods. Are those unsafe ICR batteries being foisted off on unsuspecting consumers?

I use AW IMR batteries in my Provari's. It's what Provape recommends and the Provari was actually designed around this brand of button-top battery. I personally believe they are the best choice "when in doubt" for any mod, mechanical or regulated. I do have one Panasonic CGR18650CH (IMR/hybrid) 2250mAh that I use in rotation with my AW 18650 IMR 2000mAh batteries, but have found it doesn't last any longer in my Provari's than the AW's. YMMV.

I gave a couple of Efest 18350 IMR 800mAh a shot in my AW 18350 IMR 700mAh rotation for my Mini Provari; they appeared to perform equally well for a couple of weeks, but then the capacity began to drop off sharply. They soon ended up in a drawer for a rainy day.

My daughter was using the Efest 14500 IMR's in her AltSmoke BB, and noticed the same drop off after a couple of weeks; she's now using AW 14500 IMR's and happy with them. All of these Efests were purchased from my usual reliable battery vendor; we were both disappointed with the Efests. YMMV.

I know Thrasher has been quite pleased with the Panasonic NCR18650PD 2900mAh. The PF series is allegedly a slight improvement over those. These two batteries are slightly longer and wider than other 18650 batteries, so if you mod has little tolerance to battery size you might avoid using these as they may not fit.

The Panasonic/Orbtronic NCR18650 A & B batteries (3100mAh/3400mAh) are not high drain batteries and have only a 6.8 amp limit. They may "work" in a regulated mod, but are not considered the ideal battery for a VV/VW mod because these devices use pulse width modulation to make higher voltage and the lower amp limit of these two may not be sufficient to make pulse currents. Best suited for mech mods using factory-built delivery attachments and flashlights. Technical - Why High Drain Batteries?

Thank you so much! That's great information right there. I've read all 3 of those links, but referencing specific experiences with some of the other batteries is immensely helpful.

I kinda figured the Panasonic a and B cells were boarder line, the draw rating is lower than the majority of regulated mods are able to demand. I guess I'm still at a stage where I like to check in with people I know have a better grasp on the whole.

The pd and pf batts may well be in my future. I'm currently rotating through 4 efest 2000's, and haven't noticed any drop in life since they were new, but even brand new, they couldn't quite last me a typical day.

It's just irritating to have to change a batt at like 7 pm, and then the next day at lunch, etc. I'd rather swap out first thing in the morning, knowing it's going to last me through those first few puffs the next morning, while I stumble across the room to get a fresh batt.
