Well we survived yesterday!!! Beautiful day and we were prepared. Had plenty of batteries and battery operated candles, plenty of food, cash, 2 fully charged battery usb chargers, had wife go straight to store with cash and buy 3 bags of ice for ice chest. By 2:00pm stores all out of bread, batteries, candle, chip etc... We went out to a pizza place all afternoon sitting on terrace drinking beer and eating salad! They had gas stoves so could make pasta and salads, no pizza or appetizers. Of course cash only. Spain and Portugal is a mess! Lights came on about 03:30 in this morning so was on when I woke up, Getting ready to go to the dentist, will see how city is doing. Well congrats to Spain and Portugal for achieving Net Zero well ahead of 2030 but only briefly!

No you obviously do not! Dude all electricity went down in all of Spain Portugal and Parts of Southern France. Started yester day about 12:30 after Gym and a coffee out. No trains, busses , flights, if a business was still opened no lights or card readers and cash only. same for the taxi that had lines miles long. Also no Internet or cell service so no uber, or anything you did on apps done. Emergency messaging only. We were fine but some apartment blocks are so old they need electric water pumps so no water for them. People stuck on trains walking back to station etc...

I did watch part of the news last night but didn’t see anything. I was reading at lunch and saw a story on it.

Read about that. Very similar what happened about 20 years ago in Ontario and the Northeastern US. Cascade effect that took all of 10 minutes from start to finish. I remember waking up to an absolutely silent house wondering what the heck was going on. The thing that really had folks worried was the nuclear power plants. They're supposed to scrub and shut down automatically when the power demand gets too high. As quickly as the grid collapsed, they were worried that they didn't shut down quick enough and damaged the containment systems.

Think it took about 3-4 days to get everything back on line (the nuclear plants a little longer). And the issue was traced back to one individual who took his sweet time to respond to an alarm in a generating station.
