We had enough saved for her to pay the first three semesters. I'll be able to save a little for her for the next two after that but she'll need loans. After that my wife's car will be paid off and I should be able to pay for more. I think she'll get a job and chip in too. I just don't want either of the kids to graduate with huge debt.

that's fantastic. I'm glad that you're in a position to make this happen!

I think it does build character. I didn't want her to work her first year so she could get settled and concentrate on grades. It worked. Straight A's first two semesters. She's looking for a summer job and I think is going to try to work fall semester. I told her she could try it and if it affects her grades too much then she can quit. It's not worth giving up her scholarship.

When I got out of the army, I worked full time and went to classes at night. It wasn't too bad because I only took a couple classes at a time. It took me a while to finish but I did. I think that my associate degree helps but it has been certifications like passing the master electrician exam and work experience that has really helped me. That and I was fortunate to finally find a company I could stay with long term.
