My wife called a little while ago and said the AC unit has quit working at home. It sounds like the fan motor or capacitor has gone bad. I called someone and they are going to try to make it out today. All of the repair places are really busy right now with as hot as it has been.

They still haven't come so I went out and checked it myself. There were some burned wires so I fixed those and checked the capacitor. I'm pretty sure it's bad. I called the service company and they said that we are still scheduled tonight.

The guy got here a little before seven. We are running now but after he put the capacitor in it still wouldn't run at first. He spun the fan and it took off and is running now. He'll be back in the morning with a fan motor. It got up to 83 in the house and we are at 80 now. Not bad since it was 98 today.

    Good mornin y'all

glad you were able to get the AC running, Hitt. the capacitor on mine went out last summer. Not fun (but easier to fix it than replace). My unit is about 12 years old, so we'll replace the HVAC with a larger unit as part of the construction process. Windows and doors arrived yesterday. I'm assuming install next week.

Good Morning. Hitt just had a motor and control board replaced on one of my rentals, its that time of year!

If I had the parts then I could have fixed it myself. I asked the guy about replacing it and he said that a lot of the new units don't last as long as the older ones like mine and that he would advise me to keep mine as long as it doesn't get too expensive. Now that I know which one it takes after looking at it myself, I ordered a capacitor online to keep in case it goes out again then I can fix it myself. The motor should way outlast the unit so I'm not going to worry about one of those.
