Cotton is incredible. I definitely recommend the sterile rolled cotton that you may find in your local CVS / Rite Aid first aid section, NOT in the beauty section. The sterile stuff will save you from the cottony taste from the processing that normal cotton balls go through. Awesome thing is that it's around $6 for a roll that will last you a lifetime, even if you re-wick daily, which I am a fan of with cotton since it is so easy and keeps your coils gunk-free. Remove old cotton wick, dry burn a couple of times to clean the coil, and then thread in a new wick.

The flavor is off the chain.

I've heard that its subjective. Some people like cotton, others silica. Me personally I have yet to try both.

i dont mind silica i just like to try it all and see how it is i have to admit my vapor seems a bit denser with the cotton but now i worrie i may burn the wick i like ss mesh as well but have been having issues with my coil breaking lately wich is really pissing me off plus i burnt the crap outa my finger cuz i got angry and impatient let me tell you resistance wire heated melts through skin like butter i had a burn that looked more like a cut thankfully it carterized itself lol

you can also get complications from inhaling silica fibres to tired to research and link but i have seen a few things on it. make sure you clean your cotton before use boil and dry it if your concerned the info in that wiki seems to be from factory workers and there dealing with whatever it is for long periods everyday in high concentrated ammounts but yeah i see what you mean

I just tried a micro coil with cotton in a IGO-L about a week ago. It has been a great experience so far. Here's a shot with my first wick:

IMG_2250 micro coil crop.jpg

I didn't roll the cotton thin enough so couldn't pull it through very far. All that I made since then got pulled through so they feed from both sides.

The coil is 9 wraps of 27 gauge Kanthal for 1.0 ohms. I.D. is just under 1/16". I find the wick needs to be changed about every 5 or 6 ml, which is about 2 days for me. I'm using Q-tips. One end taken off makes 2 wicks. It's on a Vmod bottom feeder.

The setup is actually so good I didn't realize my battery was getting low today until it got to 2.7 volts and effectively stopped. I'm much more used to gennys with which I consistently change the batts at 3.6 v min.

I picked up some 1 mm Ekowool to try next. That will be my first experience with silica on this.

Which wick material is best for flavor?

Stainless cannot be beat its like a cast iron skillet it only get better with use and maintenance..
I have tried everything and the kitchen sink
nothing is as easy and rewarding without worry about dry hitting cotton
or small fibre's in the back of my throat which has happened to many times..

C'mon...the average vaper is unlikely to encounter the massive amounts of cotton dust in a manufacturing facility (and the subsequent years of exposure) required to induce symptoms. And if endotoxins are indeed the culprit then sterile cotton is even more safe.

That said, I can't taste the difference between silica and cotton myself (although if I use too much cotton in my wick I can taste it well beyond the initial few vapes). What I like about cotton (other than that it is incredibly inexpensive) is that it is so easy to change wicks on my micro-coils. Threading silica through a micro-coil is a royal pain in the patootie.
