It's true. I love my Prodigy V3.1, but after nearly two years it's time to try out some new hardware. I bought two new setups. First, I got a Lavatube, because they seem to be quite the rage. I got the SS version. It's pretty big so it'll probably be a "use at home only" device for me. Second I got the PureSmoker (naturally) Legacy with Kick drop-in watt regulator and extension tube. This is likely to become my primary vape, replacing my trusty V3.1. If it seems too big with the extender tube I'll get a set of the smaller batteries for it.

As a died in the wool 6v vaper it was a bit of a challenge to ramp up on the latest crop of gear. It's interesting that the stacked battery configuration has fallen out of favor. These two new devices have a lot of promise. I'll follow up next week when I get everything...

The end of my 11 year relationship caused a domino effect in terms of organizing my house and so forth, which was/is compounded by the fact that my remodel got finished about a month after the ex moved. Now I'm dating a new gal and that's taking up some of my time. I've also just gotten over a two month cycle of cluster headaches that were keeping me away from the computer too.

I'm not gone. I'll have more time for the board soon!

The Lavatube (actually branded Varitube) came yesterday and I'm pretty impressed by its performance. Using standard 510 atomizers it hits just about as hard as my Prodigy, but with a more open, slightly cooler draw. For me, the sweet spot thus far is 5.5v on this device. That being said, I've only had it for 24 hours, so this is just my early first impression.

Oh, and it's big. Like flashlight big. So this puppy will be a "stay at home" vape for sure.

Word on the PS Legacy when it gets here later in the week.

You'll like the kick. I have one I've been using in a Bolt. Before someone mentions it, I'm prepared for it to fry the switch and wiring. That hasn't been a problem so far and it's not looking like it will be. Anyway with an extra extension I can use it with an 18650. It works as advertised and it's a nice vape.

I do have to warn you about one thing though. With a 2000 MAH AW IMR, I'm only getting between 4 and 5 hours between charges with a 2.5 ohm atty. If you have to go with an 18490 or 18500, you might not get that much. So, make sure you have enough batteries.

Interesting about the bat life. I'm getting the Legacy XL configuration with 18650 batteries, extender tube and Kick. I'll be slightly disappointed if the charge life is only five hours.

I've read some reviews that say that it draws power even when you're not using it. I can't testify to that. One thing though, there's no draw down. It starts kind of pulsing when the battery is low. It vapes very nicely until that point. It also doesn't draw the batteries down very much. I pull them off at around 3.6V. I've been using it in the evenings for 4 or 5 hours. I pull the battery before I go to bed. So far, they all pulse in the morning.

Okay. Follow up time.

The Legacy is here and I'm very favorably impressed by it.

First off, the Legacy at 3.7v with a 1.5ohm atomizer using 18650 batteries is surprisingly effective. I'm not sure what PureSmoker did, but this is (so far) the best 3.7v unit I've ever used. I've never been a fan of 3.7 because vapor production is too weak for my taste and throat hit is inconsistent. But in this Legacy configuration I'm getting about 75-80% of the experience I get with my Prodigy 3.1. It produces a surprising amount of vapor and packs a pretty serious punch when it comes to throat hit. The primary difference is the temperature of the vapor. The draws are notably cooler than those coming off the Prodigy, which is to be expected.

Next, with the Legacy configured with extension tube and Kick (officially the Legacy XL configuration) the device hits as hard or harder than the Prodigy 3.1 at 6v. I have the Kick set to aprox 9.5 watts, which seems to be my sweet spot. The vapor production is quite aggressive, besting the Prodigy by a fair amount. The draws are just as warm as the Prodigy at 6v and the throat hit is significant but seems a little smoother and less harsh than the Prodigy. The big difference I notice is consistency from hit to hit. It seems to deliver the exact same draw each and every time as long as my atomizer isn't too dry or too flooded. - I should have mentioned that I use standard atomizers and drip tips. I'm a dripper, not a carto or tank user. -

Size wise the Legacy with extension tube is practically as big as the Lavatube. It's slightly slimmer in circumference and about 3-5 mm shorter overall. The beed blasted barrel is very finely made, as is the polished adapter and end cap. There are a lot of subtle but significant hardware upgrades here over the Prodigy. Check out some of the more extensive reviews on the forum for more details.

Overall, the Legacy seems to be the superior device in comparison to the Lavatube. It's much better made, more attractive and more consistent from hit to hit. The Lavatube only bests the Legacy in two minor areas: 1) The digital controls on the Lavatube make it easier to adjust on the fly 2) the Lavatube has a nice deep well under the atomizer connection, which is useful to drippers like me. The Legacy has no well.

In comparison to the Prodigy V3.1 the legacy is significantly bigger in the XL configuration, but this fact is ameliorated by the ability to use 18490 batteries + Kick without the extender (I've ordered some 18490s so I can use this smaller configuration.) In the "standard size" without the extension tube the Legacy is still bigger than the Prodigy 3.1, but mainly in girth. The standard size configuration is very comfortable to hold and can be used at both 3.7v with 18650 or at higher wattages with 18490s and a Kick making it a nicely customizable unit, appropriate at home and on the go.

I'm still getting a feel for battery life in the different configurations so I can't speak to that yet.

Overall, I'd say that the Legacy is a more than worthy successor to the Prodigy V3.1. It's a robust, mature mod that delivers consistent results and offers a lot of configuration flexibility. If you're on the fence about it, don't be. Pull the trigger. You won't regret it.

I'll post more in the coming days as I log more hours with both of these devices...

When you say standard atomizer, you mean standard as in 2.5 - 3.0 (vs LR)???

This all makes my head swim. I have been such a PS fan for so long and the Icon has been great. I feel like I'm being pushed to change it up with the demise of the Icon, sad. I love the size of the Icon, it fits in my back pocket, I hate going larger again (like the Prodigy's I've had).

I'm buying tonight but honestly not sure it will be the Legacy.

I don't blame you on the size issue. The Legacy is more eligantly shaped than the original Prodigy, but also about the same size. In other words, a tad too big to comfortably place in your pocket.

That said, the Legacy Mini can be configured to accept a Kick unit. Not sure what the battery life would be like, though...
