Hookah sticks

My 25 yr old grandson wants to quit smoking. Had him look at various e-sig tanks and twist batteries. He said they are the same as a hookah stick, which he tried and it gave him a headache. Won't try the e-cig set up. Is there a difference between the two devices, and if so what is the difference? What would give him a headache--to high of nicotine, or to hard of draw? Any help would be appreciated. Bo
