Horrid Taste

Hi all; i have a nautilus Aspire that i have been using for about 3 months. Today, out of no where, i began to get a very horrid taste from my vape pen, after refilling it with the same e-liquid i have been using. The taste is slightly metallic, and tastes more like motor oil - it is very disgusting, and tastes very hazardous.

What the hell happened? Is there any way to fix this? Any ideas?
I have brand new BVC coils, and they all produce the same taste, so i am doubtful that it is the coil head. What else could it be?

if replacing the coil/wick head results in no change, it must be something else in the tank that is melting/burning. But I don't think there is much else to the nautilus but the coil head and a glass frame. You could try a different nautilus, I guess. Or pick up an RDA and say goodbye to these kinds of mysterious issues forever.

First off, welcome to the site! Question, at any point did you happen to clean out the tank, and instead of discarding the juice in the tank, pour it back into the bottle so you didn't feel like you were wasting it? I know some people will get a slightly burnt taste, and when they replace the head and clean the tank they will pour the unused juice back into the bottle....not good as it can then pass that crappy taste into the rest of your juice.

This is a good point. Over a year ago I used to take a syringe and pull crappy liquid out of my tank and put it in the bottle I used it from. Needless to say I had to over time just empy the bottle out. It was just yuck.

thanks to all for the replies, and the welcomes.

honestly,i have been having all kind of issues with my Nautilus, most of which tend to magically self resolve. for the past week or so, i have been getting a lot of leaking out the air hole, so much in fact that, overnight, a big puddle would usually be in the spot where i leave my vape pen.

-To LMS62...i used clean ejuice straight out the vendors bottle; i did not reuse any juice. It is not even a burnt falvor, it literally taste like machine oil/lubricant.

-freeatlast, that is exactly how my stuff tastes now, just like machine oil. I actually never soaked my tank, but it doesn't make sense that the issue would appear now, unless, somehow that oil leaked onto a coil or chamber. Again, i had my tank for about 3 months, but never thought of soaking it; all i ever clean is the mouth piece/drip tip.

Can i soak it in just water, or should i use soap-water? Also, there is no need to seek the coil head, right, only the individual parts?

I will try this out tonight and let you all know how it goes tomorrow morning.

The Aspire is the first tank i owned, and, am greatly disappointed. I love vaping when it works, but all these problems are such a waste of time. Is this common with many other tanks? Which would you guys recommend i get (i will give vaping only one more try)?

Yeah, I bought into the nautilus hype. I bought two of them. Used one for less than a week and then gave both of them away. Needless to say I was less than impressed. But on the good side, they pushed me into trying my first RTA. I bought two Kayfun 3.1 tanks and both my wife and I have been vaping happily ever after.
Actually you nautilus must be a good one. 3 months without cleaning, wow.
Disassemble the tank, warm water and mild soap, use an old toothbrush to swab the tank and the base, paper towel dry, re-assemble, install a new coil, fill the tank, prime the new coil, vape away.

The leaking and dry hits are what brought me to the Nautilus from Kanger tanks. Are you screwing it together too tightly? That can cause the coil to come loose and flood. Is your pen fixed or variable? If it's variable, has the voltage bumped up unintentionally in your pocket?
Give it a good cleaning and let us know! Don't give up!

Have you tried a new coil? Is this the same coil over the past months? They do go bad over time you know, try replacing it. Also, as mentioned, don't over tighten the coil or tank when servicing the device.

As far as leaking goes, when not in use, keep the device up-side-down. This will allow the tank pressure to equalize and your liquid wont leach out of the coil.

Do you shake your juice before filling?
Some juices will separate, heaviest component drifts to the bottom, that could mean the last % of the bottle could be mostly VG.
VG tastes like sweet motor oil to me.

Vaping / burning coil gunk can be described by almost any nasty thing you can think of, to me it has a metallic diesel & motor oil soaked steel wool or dirty sock taste to it.

Leaking out of the air hole means it is flooded, head loose in the base, tank not tight enough to top piece or top/tank not tight enough to base. (One of the seals not sealing or missing)
Could be cause by using too restrictive air hole & too strong of an inhale.
You can try clearing the flood by removing from power device turning the airflow to the largest hole & blowing through it remove drip tip (cover air tube with paper towel / napkin), then swab out the air tube with twisted / rolled napkin.

I use PGA for cleaning cheap vodka can be substituted cleans, removes / loosens gunk, evaporates quickly.
Soak for a few minutes to over night, rinse in warm/hot water rinse in PGA allow to evaporate /dry.
I haven't had much luck cleaning BVC heads.
Be sure to prime new heads before filling tank.

All delivery devices have a learning curve to get them to work the way you want them to. Some folks give up and move on some figure out the idiosyncrasies of a particular delivery device and vape happily on them for years.
I prefer other delivery devices but the Nautilus mini using BVC heads is the best clearo I've used to date.

The first time I cleaned mine, I used soap and water; then it just tasted like the soap I used!! Ugh! I bought some Everclear (cheap alcohol) at the liquor store and use it for cleaning purposes with my vaping stuff. Works well. Hope you get some use out of your Nautilis tanks - I use mostly cartos and cartotanks, but I do have 2 Nautilis and like them; they are in use all the time.

well, i took apart my vaper and cleaned it. the motor oil taste is greatly diminished, but it is there, albeit, very slight in nature.
I will keep on vaping ans see what happens.

I did not isolate any variables, so i cannot exactly pinpoint where the problem occurred. When i first got my ejuice, i did not mix it very well, so i could have taken up all the sweet flavor, and left behind the awful tasting solute. But, it was not my first time refilling from this ejuice bottle, where i previously had no issue, so i cannot say for certain that was the problem either.

On a side, can anyone recommend good site for buying some great tasting and smoking ejuice?

I would venture to say that never cleaning your tank in the 3 months of owning it could be the culprit or part of the problem as well. Also, how old and what kind of juice was it? The juice could have gone bad is one possibility; I have seen others post about that.

For the juice company suggestion there are lots of respected vendors out there but not everyone likes the same vendors. Some of the most talked about are: Mt Vapor Baker, Nicotiket, 5 Pawns, Ahlusion, Killer Juice, Bombies just to name some off the bat. But caution that tastes vary from vendor to vendor. It is really up to you to find what you like which i know is kind of lame since you have to spend money before you know if you like it or not but it is what it is. Think of it as eating at a restaurant you have never been to before ;)
