I have a friend in the hospital. When I was a kid, you could smoke in hospitals...hell, I even bought my cigs from their vending machines...lol! Anyway, today, all my local hospitals are no smoking properties! Can't even smoke in my car...although I'd like to see them try to stop me. Has anybody here tried to vape in a hospital? Or even on the property? I'm just curious how that would go over.

A few years ago, when I still smoked, I went into the hospital for some surgery. Since I knew that they don't allow smoking, I bought a can of snuff to use instead. When the nurses saw it, they told me it was a tobacco-free facility and I had to give them the snuff. I simply refused, and they caved. After all, what are they going to do to a guy in a hospital bed who's just been cut open? Call the cops to come and arrest me?

I love getting over on the nicotine Nazis!

a little over two months ago I was in a hospital where my son was being born (which is actually the reason I switched from smoking to a PV in the first place) and I asked out of curiosity. I was told no, because there isn't enough scientific evidence backing up it's safety. Which I feel is a very fair objection. I just went out to the parking lot, and stealth vaped there.

I just had surgery today. I was allowed to openly vape in the recovery room. I have to admit it was really fun trying to explain what it was while messed up on morphine, lmao Luckily I had a bunch of V4L cards with me that explained it a lot better than my drugged up little mind was able too,lol I had planned ahead and had talked to my doc about it. He has been my orthopedist for over 5 years and is the reason I still have my leg so he knows me better than most people do. He already had it in the orders to allow me to use it. It was actually kind of fun! It felt like I was "getting away with something" lol

Back in 2009 my soul mum (she and my mom have the same name.... only last names are very slightly different), ended up in the hospital because she was having heart pains.
So there I am sitting there and on the verge of freaking out. I am vaping like a chimney in the waiting lobby.
A nurse actually said that there was no smoking in there I kinda giggled a bit, and took it apart explaining what it was. She loved the idea, and I gave her a few websites to go to.... then went right back to vaping.

I work in a hospital and stealth vape all the time. I have vaped openly in our break room and most of my co-workers think it is cool. The control freaks can't stand it though.

So after a few complaints of a smell from my PV I thought I would play a trick on the freaks. I sat in the break room during report and pretended to stealth vape using a battery that was dead. Of course two people went running to the manager complaining of the smell. ;)My manager had a good laugh when I explained what I had done. :mad:This really ticked the freaks off when they were told what I pulled on them.

It just proves that some people just can't stand the idea of not being able to force you to bend to their perverted sense of what is right. These people are freaks in the true meaning of the word.

I got an ecig for my brother because he spends alot of time in the hospital due to an accident and they let him use it.

He will love you for it. I wish I had found ecigs back when I was going thru my major surgeries. I had to have 13 of them within 3 years and there was no way I could get up to go smoke. I would have loved someone for giving me an ecig back then. I wish your brother a fast recovery with as little pain as possible!

Just got out of the hospital. Was afraid they would say no, so I stealth vaped, which wasn't easy, but it kept me calm.

I have a 403 that I use for stealth vaping. It is very small and even my small hands can cover it up easy enough. You can get one from Heaven Gifts in China fro a good price.

You are my new hero! Way to show them!

First of all, WAY TO GO RTBOB!!!

I was in the hospital in 2005 (before e-cigs) for nine days. I had a major surgery and was on an IV automatic injection of Dilaudid every 15 minutes. I didn't get to eat for 8 days, and almost died twice. One of the times was because the so called "Pic Line Lady" had shoved my pic line all the way up into my heart valve!
Anyway having gone through all that, being higher than a kite (i don't remember most of my time there), and having a private room I would go into the bathroom (dragging the auto IV), turn the vent on and smoke. I didn't care or really know what I was doing. I tried doing it mostly late at night.
The CNA's knew what I was doing and even supplied me with mini bottles of air freshener to use to cover up the smell.
Well one night this horrid nurse who looked like her name would be Brunhilda who had this look on her face like I'm gonna hurt you bad, came in my room and smelled smoke. She said if she caught me again she'd call security on me. I was cut open and half dead she might as well have called the Coroner.
One day I just know that I'll be back in there and I'm going to get old Brunhilda back. When she's on duty I'm going to vape a dessert flavor like Strawberry Cheesecake or Peach Cobbler big time. Then when she comes in my room, I'm going to pretend I'm sound asleep and I'll bet she'll start looking around my room for a midnight snack of dessert. Then I will "wake up" and call security or Jenny Craig on her, lol.

Good on you! It irks me when people seem to go out of their way to make others as miserable as they are.

I can tell you that we are required to try to obtain the product. That way, if admin sees a patient with it, we can honestly say we tried. I know very few nurses who'd fight to the death...we just ask and shrug. ;) As a student, I had this poor old man who was dying from cancer and couldn't walk well. My instructor had a fit that he was smoking in his room and demanded that I inform him of the tobacco policy. I did, he proclaimed he would never do something like smoke in his room and I winked at him. His DOCTOR grabbed me on the way out of the room and said "The man is DYING! If he likes to drink, get him a bottle of Old Granddad for crying out loud!" I meekly told him why I gave the lecture. He rolled his eyes, glared at my instructor and walked off.

Personally, even though I know the health risks, I think it is terrible to add the stress (and side effects) of quitting when someone is sick. I don't think there is any reason not to allow patients and visitors to have a smoking area.
