Construction is still wide open for smokers for the most part. I have built a few schools that said no smoking even during the building stages. But its more of a good idea nobody follows the rule. Im a Iron worker so nothing is finished when Im there.

Yeah, I worked as a steamfitter/welder here in Atlanta for several years and I must say pretty much everyone smoked cigarettes, if they didn't it was only because they had a dip in their mouth. Only had a couple instances where we were working on a campus or in a building that was occupied that we had to have a dedicated smoking area off the site. Smoking was always allowed in the fab shop, and they held out as long as they could allowing people to smoke in their offices.

Funny part is, I worked out at CDC on a job for several years and we were allowed to smoke on site except in some of the high containment lab areas where rules were pretty strict for obvious reasons.

I work for an international media corporation, and we actually have to sign a pledge when we're hired affirming that we don't smoke to begin with. It's a condition of employment! We still have smokers, though. They (I used to be one) just have to go hide somewhere out of sight. Not being a smoker anymore is awesome, but I'm still an advocate for smokers rights.
